Dollar Tree has some pretty cool looking action figures and accessory sets!
Hopefully they look good in person.

look like Joe knockoffs. Man, hopefully they have decent arty. I put this on the front page.
-
Swung by Dollar Tree on the way home. The "Final Faction" line is finally starting to hit. They only had 2 cases of the hero characters but are expecting cases of the villains and the accessory sets tomorrow or Sunday.
I only picked up 1 each of the figures minus the female character as that figure looks TERRIBLE (not even worth $1 to be honest). I haven't opened them up yet as I am cooking dinner, but my first impressions are not great.
They follow the standard Chap Mei design (5 POA, 2 screws in the torso/waist holding the figure together, bulky bodies and little peanut heads), but sport somewhat more sophisticated paint apps (like Chap Mei, the reverse of the torsos lack paint). The mech and the figures with the heavier armor sport empty ports for attaching accessories from the accessory sets which will allow for some fun customization potential. The tiny heads really ruin the overall presentation of the figures.
The accessories look really nice though and will probably be the stars of the line along with the alien villains.
-
Wow, hope the villians are better. Thanks for giving us your thoughts on this new line. I guess for a dollar a figure we can't bee to critical, but man.
Off to the front pages with your review.
-
My final impression of the ones I bought:
Material: more like styrene plastic than the heavier plastic and vinyl used by better toy companies. I fear the separately sculpted trigger fingers breaking off with repeated play.
Movement: very poor. Swivel joints all over, but there are either misformed or misaligned joints on every figure making the movements hindered. The heads and shoulders are especially affected by this. The shoulder joints on the mech are very wobbly on my sample.
Compatibility: mixed. The port system is not uniform across all of the figures. The backpacks do not really fit on each figure if you try to swap them. The shoulder cannon on the figure in green should theoretically work in all of the ports, but it is hit or miss across the line.
Are they good figures? Not really.
Are they worth a dollar? Varies from figure to figure and your personal tastes. The lone rifle in this first assortment is really well sculpted but the handle is kind of fat for figures with smaller grips. The plastic of all of the accessories is nice and rigid so there are no wavy or bent accessories unlike most modern lines.
The sculpts (aside from the heads) are interesting with lots cool details.
The paint isn't great, but there are enough details in the sculpts that will really pop with better paint jobs.
-
I don't foresee buying any additional figures of the 4 I already bought. I do, however plan on squad building (6 of each) the 3 aliens and their gear if they are better than the human figures.
-
Found them all today. The plastic is not as flimsy as I expected, so that's a plus. The alien gear looks too beefy to me and the jury's still out on the figures. A lot rides on how the aliens look after different paint applications (except the "Synthoid" - it's a keeper). But for a dollar, I'm willing to experiment a bit. If I have time tomorrow I might post images of the aliens.
-
I finally found these yesterday. I bought one of each and some more accessory packs. I used a couple of the weapons in my last custom batch, and I think they worked pretty well. I had to shave down the handle on one of the alien weapons to get it to fit properly. Like the Starchaser said it quality of the plastic is surprisingly good and if you wanted to drill out and joint the limbs I think they would hold up. I thing the Drone alien is the one that will fit the best with SW figures. I think the Brute head has a lot of promise. The female, Shift, head also looks pretty usable, she looks almost Native American the way she's been sculpted. Overall for $10 for a bag of figures and weapons I'm pretty happy.

I guess you could actually order these online now? I haven't set up an account to see, but it looks like you can.
I am thinking for a dollar these aren't gonna disappoint you too much. I am guessing most knew there would definitely be some bad spots with an action figure line this cheap, but sounds like folks can find some workarounds.

Some reveals of upcoming series 2 releases!
Improvements include metallic paint apps and working holsters.
-
Those look very exciting. I've only used the weapon so far from the first run, but I have plans to start using the figs. WHOOHOO!
-
Wow, these seem to be a ton better than that first wave.
Off to share the info on the front pages.
-
Whoa these look great. The red armored guy is going to be great fodder for Mando customs. I could see the one in the last picture used for royal guard types.
Just been waiting and hoping for more in this line. I really hope they get even more out and that Vehicle too. Honestly this is a line that should get dozens of repaints and random variations... That would make it insanely collectable especially for the price.
Speaking of these figures, months after launch... It seems 95% of all locations have them. Some only humans or aliens only. It seems the humans sell more than the aliens (strange to me). Some stores are soo overstocked (especially the one's with only aliens) that they have legit sealed cases in the isle... Which I'm not going to lie is super tempting to buy since its 30x per case aka $30 so that's army building in a flash!
-
Another series 2 character reveal (3d render)!
-
Looks like whoever is doing them is getting their act together.
These sculpts look so much better than the first wave.
-
I hit several Dollar Trees today hunting for DVDs/Blurays and noticed some local trends involving "Final Faction":
The least popular human figure in my area is Shift. Many DTs have nothing but her left from the heroes.
The least popular hero accessory set in my area is the Aerial Assault. It was the only hero set at any of my local DTs.
The Kharn seem to sit longer than the heroes in my area (when restocked at the same time), same for their accessory sets. I guess kids want the soldiers more than the monsters here.
The figures (both factions) seem to move quicker than the accessory sets. A few DTs have nothing but accessory sets (mostly Kharn) on the pegs.
Your experiences may vary, but this is what I am seeing in northeast NJ.

I think its pretty cool they are doing these accessory sets.
Hasbro could learn a lesson or three.
They would make them so expensive though that it wouldn't work probably though.
This is on the front page Dan, thanks for sharing.

Wow, there are a ton of these accessory sets! How many does that make?

Wow, there are a ton of these accessory sets! How many does that make?
This is the 7th set for series 2 if I am not mistaken.
Series 1 had 6 sets as well, but I have a feeling that series 2 will have many more as they seem to be doing a set for each figure instead of the more generalized sets from series 1.

The "Final Faction" Arrow vehicle and Battle Ready Conversion Kit have been found in San Antonio, TX!
Only $1 each at Dollar Tree!

One dollar sure gets you a lot here.

Reports are starting to come in regarding Dollar Tree's exclusive "Final Faction" line showing up at Family Dollar (another company Dollar Tree owns).
The figures appear to be identical to their Dollar Tree releases, but the boxed set with Scope and the Arrow ATV is unique in that there are several fairly complex paint applications on the Arrow's accessories that are not present on the Dollar Tree releases (The Arrow and its accessories are sold separately at Dollar Tree).
-
Well thats interesting that Family Dollar is getting some "variants" of the regular line.
Off to share that on the front page.

Family Dollar is also receiving the Kharn figures from the Dollar Tree "Final Faction" line!
These were spotted in Clifton, NJ.

"Final Faction" Accessory Sets Series 2 Review:
Tonight, I opened all of the "Final Faction" Series 2 Accessory Sets I had purchased yesterday after work. This time around, instead of vaguely themed accessory sets like the majority of those in series 1, each accessory set in series 2 is specifically intended for a specific character. These sets are a cheap and easy means of accessorizing the figures from this line (or any 3.75"/4" action figures), but are also a bit of a mixed bag depending on how you intend to use them.
The sets intended for the Alpha Team heroes are primarily made from hard plastic while the sets intended for the Kharn villains are made from soft and flexible vinyl.
Thunderbolt- this set is intended for the P-131 mech figure that is just now starting to hit across the country, but should be able to be used on the ACRM and F-DO mech released previously. The real stars of this set are the articulated missile pods. The wings are okay for what they are, but suffer from soft sculpts on the rotors and the swivel articulation points are a bit loose (at least on the 6 sets I got). I plan on using these accessory pieces as parts for custom vehicles.
Cyber Arms- this set is intended for Torn but seems like an odd choice for a shadowy spy to use. The cyber arms are pretty well articulated with ball joints at the shoulders and swivels at the elbows and wrists. There are also 4 different tiny accessories that go into the arms, 2 on each arm, but seem rather silly and poorly balanced with the overall design. I plan on using these accessory pieces for a couple of different things. The Cyber Arms themselves may end up as appendages for custom droids while the different small accessories will most likely be fashioned into various hand weapons.
Long Range- this set is intended for Scope and is full of nicely sculpted sniper styled rifles. One rifle is a modified version of the ones that make up the large double gun on the rear of the Arrow ATV. Another is a variant of Scope's standard rifle. The backpack is intended to carry multiple rifles but I cannot fit more than 2 regardless of how I try to put them in. I plan on modifying the rifles into more sci-fi designs.
Striker- this set is intended for the Kharn Brute and is full of big, bulky weapons befitting the Kharn heavyweights. The main draw of this set is the giant warhammer, which would look right at home in the hands of the "Halo" alien baring the same name as the "Final Faction" figure. The arm shield/blaster is basically a bug that the figure holds by the mandibles. There is also a great backpack creature that has 2 removable, non-firing, podlike projectiles. The arm shield/blasters will be the primary firearms for a dozen customs built off of the Drone figures. The backpack parts will end up as organic weapons for another project. The warhammers will probably end up as troll weapons in my fantasy line.
Scourge- this set is intended for the Kharn Drone. This set is a bit of a letdown aside from the great arm shield/blaster. The large gold spearlike weapon has terribly soft sculpting and is made from a very flimsy vinyl making it droop if not held upright. The backpack is an odd design in that it follows the organic designs that are so prevalent in the majority of series 2's accessories, but has mechanical buzzsaws on the end of each tendril. The arm shield/blasters will be the primary firearms for the majority of my Drone customs. The backpacks will be set aside for some future project and the gold weapons will most likely go into my Swap Shop.
Evolution- this set is intended for the Synthoid and features alternative body parts to outfit your Synthoid for a variety of scenarios. The only really good piece is the mass of green tentacles which can replace either arm on a Synthoid figure. The alternate left arm is redundant as it is just a larger version of the same type of weapon already featured in the figure's torso. The remaining parts are a tiny pair of green wings and a pair of light grey attachment parts to secure the wings to the figure's back. The wings are very disappointing as they are way too small to provide sufficient lift for something of the Synthoid's size and the attachment parts mesh very poorly to the design of the Synthoid's back. The tentacles and wings will be used for various creature customs in the future. The left arm weapons will get used for another project someday.
For the $1.25 retail price for these sets, you can amass a giant pile of accessories for less than the price of a standard action figure at Walmart or Target. At this cheap price, even if you can only use 1 or 2 accessories from each set, it is cheaper to buy the sets than to get a cast accessory from an online caster.
Series 2 is currently making its way through the distribution network to Dollar Tree stores across the country and will be plentiful in the coming weeks just as the first series continues to be.
-
Man, that sounds like a lot of bang for your buck Dan. Even if some of it suffers from soft plastic.
Time to take these reviews to the front pages.
I mean even if its not so great plastic its not like a 20 some dollar action figure!
-
Thanks for the breakdown on these. I saw them in store the other day, but was in a hurry, so I only grabbed the "Long Range" set - I liked the rail gun rifle for my Tunroth custom. I'll be picking up more of these packs though, can't beat the price.
I'm still waiting to find that "Blade" set revealed for the Shift figure, that one has promise.

Very nice Dan. Thanks for keeping us up to date with the FF Line.
-
First impressions on the Perimeter Defense figures (back to front not counting the P-131 robots in the last row):
X4 Turret has great sculpted details, but all 6 that I got have 1 or both missile launchers defective. This doesn't really matter to me as I was not going to use the launching feature (I am planning on making fixed gun barrels on them) but this will surely disappoint any child that gets a defective toy.
Huntra has incredible sculpting, all missile launchers work perfectly but have hair triggers and launch their projectiles across the entire living room. The launchers are huge and I will most likely swap them out for stingers or smaller weapons. The large launchers will be repurposed as bio weapons for another project.
Decimator is truly the most alien of the designs as it is a 3 limbed arthropod. The launchers all work and are super powerful, but I will not be using the projectiles, instead I will be sculpting large single eyes over the missile ports. The projectiles will be used for another project.
Crawlers come 2 to a pack and are probably my favorite new figures in this line. All 6 limbs have side to side motion, but the large rear legs are very loose and floppy so I will be tightening them up before repainting them. There are 2 small round ports on the rear of the body, but none of the released accessories fit into them so I would expect a future accessory set to remedy this.
-
The Rumbler is kind of crap. No interior at all. All 3 wheels are only detailed on 1 side and the armor/weapons fit poorly and will require mods.
-
This is my plan to make it useful. It will require extensive mods to make the additional legs fit as well as the tail, and I will need to fashion an interior for it.
-
Dan thanks for sharing your review. It is definitely gonna help folks make a decision on these.
I think your idea to fix the Rumbler is great.
Off to share your review on the front pages.

Thanks for reviews. Did you order these ones or find them in the wild? I think the bugs look really fun.

All were found in the wild.
The bugs are my favorite figures in the line, they are so much fun :)

You are very welcome as always!
You know my reviews are always honest and take a number of factors into consideration as well as multiple viewpoints (collector, customizer, kid) so as to give the best impression of the product possible.
I know these are just $1.25 toys, but the Rumbler's shortcomings are heartbreaking after seeing how much bang for your buck everything else in the line is giving consumers.
-
I forgot to post this yesterday.
When I happened upon the 2 unopened cases of Perimeter Defense figures yesterday, 1 of the Crawler 2pks fell right off of the card as it was barely glued down, resulting in an almost perfect unblemished card back. There is only a very slight blemish about .5" under the FACTION portion of the logo in the upper left.
Kind of cool.
-
That is interesting. I remember for CV they were giving away TVC Carbacks that were pristine. I think I still have some of those somewhere. I though it was a nice giveaway.
-
2 gallons of Kharn bugs:
24 Huntras (launchers removes for other projects- will be replaced with custom stingers)
24 Decimators (projectiles will not be used, instead large single eyes will be sculpted over the projectile ports)
50 Crawlers
-
What are you gonna do with all those creepy crawlies?
-
What are you gonna do with all those creepy crawlies?
Assorted diorama needs.
Sadly, small creatures are kind of ignored now by most major action figure lines, but luckily, "Final Faction" is picking up some of that slack :)
-
Looks like I have to start hunting at Dollar Tree again!
The 3rd wave of "Final Faction" accessory sets have been found in Portland, OR.
-
Wave 3 accessory packs continued.
-
I will be passing on the Rampage set (1st pictured in the new set post) as it is hollow and only armors the.front of the figure :(
-
Well you win some and you loose some with this line. For the price it is still a sure winner though.
Off to share your update on the front pages.
-
I just finally found the "bugs" in my area (last Saturday). I agree that they are actually pretty cool. Now I guess I'll have to check again.
-
I haven't seen these in the wild yet, but did find the General Diabol figure today at one of my local Dollar Trees. There was no Krepitus, so I'll have to keep a look out. I am excited for the Wave three dragonfly and blades sets, but agree with you the armor seems a bit lame.
-
Look at this "Final Faction" prototype that never got produced!
This is what the P-131 was SUPPOSED to be!
-
Now that would have been one nice mech.
Guess it couldn't meet with the price point they needed.
-
Tonight, I got the newest accessory packs and I have opened everything but the Dragonfly and Assault packs and here are my impressions of this wave:
The new, softer, flexible material flat out SUCKS. Most parts have some degree of malformation right out of the package, but that is nothing a dip in boiling water won't cure. There is also a ton of mold flash and bits of sprue still attached to many of the pieces (the Cyborg and Razor sets are the main offenders here) that will need to be trimmed. Of the 3 sets I have opened so far, none are great as-is, but all contain very useful parts for future custom projects. Even the leg braces from the Cyborg set have plenty of useful pieces that can be cut off and used elsewhere. As individual toys, they are not great, but as cheap sources of customizing fodder, they are FANTASTIC!
Tomorrow I will open the Assault and Dragonfly sets and do a review.
-
Nice, time to get this on the front pages.
-
I finally opened the Dragonfly and Assault packs this morning. The soft, flexible material is particularly annoying on the Dragonfly as the pieces just will not stay together and will need to be glued. There are going to be a lot of unhappy kids that buy this. There is also a huge issue with the soft plastic causing warped parts, particularly with the tail joint which is only anchored on one side of the post. All 6 that I got have the post warped almost 45° making the tail joint super loose and extremely crooked. They will need a hot water dip to reshape and I will make a cap for the unsupported side to increase stability and prevent future warping.
The Assault set fares a bit better as the pieces are more squat allowing for less warpage aside from the missile and its launch rail. Just about all of the pieces in this set are useful as-is, especially the helmet. I may get another 6 sets just for more of the helmets. There is a notable variant for this set- the pieces are cast in 2 different shades of dark green, with the different colored parts in each set (i.e.- the gatling guns will have 1 of either of the 2 parts cast in each shade). If you buy 2 sets with the differently colored parts on opposite pieces, you can swap parts to make full sets in solid shades instead of mixed (although packing mistakes can happen- 1 set I bought had 5 of the wheels in 1 shade and 1 in the other instead of all 6 being the same). This set is the best of this wave overall, in my opinion.
-
Nice review Dan.
-
Nice review Dan.
Thanks :)
-
Looks like the Dollar Tree exclusive "Final Faction" line will be getting some new additions coming soon!
These are most likely going to be redecos of the previous releases based on the silhouettes, a move that makes financial sense as the manufacturer can maximize the usage of molds that they have already paid for, but there may be some new surprises planned. No word on when to expect them as of yet, but as soon as I know anything I will spread the news.
Some people are already fretting over the "limited edition" wording, but with how widely stocked all of the previous releases have been and continue to be, I am not worried about it.
-
Nice, on the front page.
-
Looks like more "Limited Edition" repaints are on the way for the Dollar Tree exclusive "Final Faction" line.
-
LOL. Bet I know where they learned that lesson from.
Off to share on the front page.

Another canceled "Final Faction" item:
How cool would this have been?
'If you don't control your mind it will control you or someone else will control it for you.'
Let's travel down deep into one of the many layers of The Kharn Hive. Houser created the Hive having many layers and levels to it ,the further down you go the more ancient and grotesque the Kharns become, with The High Queen being at its most treacherous, vile deepest level.
With that being said get a firm grip of your thoughts while we take a look at Valkoroth an ancient mind controlling Kharn that the High Queen uses to mind control her strongest opponents.
Valkoroth is all but decomposed but some of his ancient power still remains and is still used to control the minds of others to benefit the High Queen along with the seven other queens. He is awakened only by queens of the hive .
The Creation of this creature was influenced and inspired by
* 1980's MOTU playset
* 1986 Transformers The Movie
* Inumanoids
*This project was to big and would have exceeded price point so it was canceled.

An unreleased aquatic Kharn figure from Final Faction!
-
Unreleased Kharn Queen figure.
-
Cool stuff Dan, you need to put those on our FB Page!
-
I received this awesome 3D printed figure from a friend!
This figure is the "Aquatic Kharn" (official name unknown), an unproduced figure from the Dollar Tree exclusive "Final Faction" action figure line. The files are available online (along with files for at least 1 other unproduced "FF" figure), and I am extremely happy to have an example of this figure that we would have otherwise not been able to get.
This is a raw filament print, so it has the usual build lines that need to be smoothed out. Once that is done, I plan on painting it up in 1 of 2 colorschemes- either like a great white Shark, or something really vibrant like you would find in the "Avatar" movies (complete with GITD markings). The official colorscheme was never revealed as far as I am aware.
-
That's a pretty cool design. I could see a number of applications for a figure like that.
-
I agree. I could see this being at home in multiple lines.
-
The 3d files have been released by the sculptor!
