Title: Ahsoka
Post by: DarthHawk on July 12, 2023, 08:42:27 AM
I didn't see a thread for this show so here is the latest trailer.

Cautiously optimistic on this. Has potential to be great. Funny how 'Soka went from most hated to a beloved character.

I think that says a lot about character development.

I don't really get the hype around Ahsoka. I guess if you grew up watching clone wars. I get annoyed she's a jedi when it's convenient, when it's not she's like I'm no jedi. Obviously she still practices the jedi arts, or she'd lose her abilities. Then they created time travel to bring her back from the dead. Whatever I don't care. It looks cool. But yeah I'm cautiously optimistic as well. I just don't like the time travel thing, I hope they don't get too crazy with that. End up with crazy multiverses like marvel.

The action sequences/lightsaber fights look exciting and I like the supposed premise that she is searching for Ezra.
The introduction of Sabine has the possibility of being an exciting character.
If time travel is part of this series maybe Ahsoka will take omega back to Alderaan at "0 BBY" and leave her there.
Given that Thrawn has obviously survived the clutches of the giant space whales it's almost assured that Ezra has survived also. But why was Thrawn able to escape and return to the present yet a search has to be invoked to find a powerful Jedi Knight?

What I feel/see at least for right now, as negatives don't surprise me.
1. The new dark master looks like he will be nothing more than a poor mans Darth Vader. A sith lord wannabe.
2. Mads Mickelson will have to give his greatest acting performance ever to impress me as Grand Admiral Thrawn.
His style of speech is a bit slurry and just a tich lispy. Thrawn should be speaking clearly, with authority and demanding loyalty. In my opinion Mads always comes off as Mr. Evil while Thrawn is the epitome of strength, clarity, presence and persuasion.

Plus this is a dudsney show. That fact alone gives me no confidence that there will be originality, imagination or creativity.

Man, I just wateched the trailer (yeah I have been sick) and so far the actors and actresses they cast seem to be spot on perfect from what I saw from the trailer. I love the Sabine angle. Makes me sad our bad guy actor has passed as he looked pretty knarly in the trailer. Looking forward to this.

Posted some product info on the front pages they just listed. Nothing that stands out. Lots of little kid stuff so far.

I read today that Sabine is actually Ahsoka's Jedi padawan
and supposedly it's referenced in the latest trailer.
That adds a bit of a twist to the story line.

The first episode airs on my birthday. I'm looking forward to it! So glad they pick up some elements of Timothy Zahn, too! It's good to see Thrawn and some Dark Jedi or whatever they are in life-action.

Yeah, why we didn't get the Zahn Thrawn trilogy for the new movies is beyond movie. We all loved that storyline. Oh well, I don't need to there.

And yes seeing Sabine as a Padawan is great. How many Jedi Mandalorians have we had?

Watched both episodes last night. Only my opinion, but I'm noticing this show and the last season of the Mandalorian seem to be dumbed down. Also they are looking more and more like they are being filmed in Disney parks with Disney park extras. Everything is too clean. I know it's a different era... but too clean.

Absolutely agree on that. The rendering of a few shots at the beginning was apparently not finished. Loved the ruins of that white tempel, but some frames were a pain to look at. Maybe that's part of the reason why this show gives me so many KOTOR vibes.
It's Di$ney and KK so I expect the worst, but so far the show is a nice surprise.
Have you noticed all the product placements? I bet Disney cannot wait to add all these new droids to their Droid Factory assortment.
Hasbro will be happy to produce Sabine's helmet for The Black Series and something tells me that Star Wars cat food will be a thing, soon.

I watched the second episode today and I think it's a solid start of the show. So far they do the character of Ahsoka justice in my opinion. Rosario Dawson portrays her in a brilliant way.
I want to mention that I did not see REBELS. But I think they found some good actresses to convey that punk/rebel type of gang. Got some Mulan vibes here and there with Sabine.
Don't know if I like her character, yet. It's Di$ney so I take everything with a grain of salt these days. But for being intoxicated by Kennedy, I must say Dave and Jon did a tremendous job on these episodes! I mean lightsaber throw is a thing now, right? What a nice nod to Star Wars Battlefront II. Got some Maul vibes, too with those drones.
But most of all it feels like Knights of the Old Republic // THE OLD REPUBLIC to me.

I didn't expect anything from this show, but absolutely enjoy it thus far! 9/10

So, I didn't relgiously watch REBELS, but I did watch some. Seems spot on to me. I like who they have casted for the roles so far. I think they did the characters justice. I think Rosario perhaps did the best, but all are good. I like this quest for Thrawn thing they have going. I think they set up the show nicely and introduced us to the characters. I don't know why they didn't just do one bigger episode premiere, but whatever. Looking foward to seeing where we go next. Man, was it just me or did it take forever to finally see Chopper and where the heck is the Ghost!

I didn't watch REBELS at all even though friends recommended me to. It took me years to get used to the animated style of The Clone Wars already. I continued to put part of my collection on shelves last night. Short night was enough for me because I'm excited for the third episode of Ahsoka. I'm only waiting for my brother to wake up. And while doing so, I keep displaying my TVC figures ^^

I'm excited for today's episode!

Well, this felt a little like a filler episode, but for the sake of all the CLONE WARS nostalgia, it was well worth it! Thanks, Dave!

SPOILERS AHEAD!

I like the Asian style of training! We've seen Ahsoka in Space Suit in The Clone Wars before.
Space Whales and Indian Summer.

Does anybody know how many episodes there will be? If there's only 8 again, the pacing won't get us too far...

I have watched the first two episodes and I like the premise of the show so far.
Rosario Dawson does a good job portraying Ahsoka but I'm not a big fan of her "look" as Ahsoka.
Seems to me that she has eaten to many Bantha Burgers and Rancor Ravioli.
We did find out that someone can actually survive being skewered by a lightsaber. That's a first
Sabine is being portrayed as the female version of Ezra Bridger. Selfish and disrespectful to her mentor
and living in Ezra's tower home.
The new darksiders have an interesting place in this story line.
Who do they betray first. Morgan Elsbeth or Grand Admiral Thrawn. Plus their demise is a forgone conclusion
so how they will meet their fate is up for speculation and discussion.
Do you think Sabine will improve her Jedi skills to the point she will be able to exact revenge on the darkside padawan?
When will Vader appear? Will it be in person or Ahsoka having a force vision?
Luke? Do you think he will make an appearance?

Title: Re: Ahsoka
Post by: Tamer on September 05, 2023, 03:07:28 AM
I am liking it so far. I think Rosario is doing a good job as being an older wiser Jedi, although still not perfect but recognizing that fact. I like the droid trainer too. Irritates me that Hera couldn't get the Senators to see the dangers of the threat of Thrawn. Still its easy to see most of em are still on the take. It has my interest I will admit that. Can't wait to see that huge hyperdrive ring in action.

I did not think last episode could be beat.

It was.

The Clone wars flashbacks were oncredible. Seeing young Ahsoka was really cool.

I feel the same.
The Clone Wars scenes in life-action and the dialogues didn't leave my eyes dry.
Title: Re: Ahsoka
Post by: RC-1136 on September 13, 2023, 06:30:26 PM
I think a big part of it for me was watching young Ahsoka hold the fallen troopers hand as he passed. So many good troopers, gone.
Title: Re: Ahsoka
Post by: Darth More on September 14, 2023, 02:57:34 AM
Absolutely, this is a very nice gesture in this episode.

What gave me the chills is Ahsoka saying "I choose to live" in front of Anakin. Something gives me the feeling that this made him think of Padmé who chose to die because of his decisions and actions.

It felt like this defeated Anakin from the inside in favor of Ahsoka.

So much to unpack again this time...

Night troopers? I suspect many if not all are undead and powered by the out-of-galaxy variant of their magic. The gold trim/cracks and nightsister cloth seems to suggest this.

The heavy damage to the Chimera (Thrawn's SD) has been patched by gold metal, which again, I suspect is related to night sister magic.

How has Ezra eluded Thrawn for so long? The master strategist is someone with incredible attention to detail. I only suspect the crab people he was staying with possess no art or anything else.

We have a ticking time clock. 3 rotations. And then the Star Desteoyer will be ready to depart.

Baylen and Shin have weak motivations and again are merely pawns in this scheme. And they seem to know it. What is the energy calling out to them on this ancient planet? What are in those coffin like cargo containers being loaded onto the Chimera? I'm sure they mentioned loading them from a crypt. More night troopers? Something else?

I have a huge theory for who/what is calling out to Baylin but it involves a legends dark side entity/character.

So many questions, very few answers.
Title: Re: Ahsoka
Post by: Darth More on September 20, 2023, 12:37:07 PM
RC-1136: Well, thumbs up from me for the Star Destroyer. Sounds realistic that it takes 3 rotations to make it ready for take-off. Cool to hear that we finally see Thrawn close to the Seasons ending.

I agree with you abut Baylen and the emo girl, I see no purpose in them other than standing around for 2 episodes and play cool...ah and watch the ocean.

Curious about the Night Troopers. Lucasfilm cannot license enough variations to sell to us, right?

I wonder if Thrawn will be the one to build/gather that massive fleet for reborn Palps that is shown in the dumpster fire that is called The Rise of Skywalker by Di$ney...

For some reason this show inspired me to daydream about a life-action TV show of The Clone Wars...

Yeah, the bad guys are really bad guys right? It will be interesting to see where this goes and how it works itself out.

Liked the fight scenes in this episode as they seemed more realistic than the over choreographed lightsaber duels so far.

I am guessing Ezra knows more about this planet too? Gonna be interesting to see his reaction when Sabine spills the beans and seeing Ahsoka show up. Good episode.

Lucas' original intent was that the Saga was being recanted to someone (the viewers) by R2-D2, centuries (or even millenia) after the events...

Episode 5??? ABSOLUTELY, UNBELIEVABLY, FANTASTIC!!!!
I felt like I was watching a George Lucas episode of Star Wars.
The flashbacks and clone wars rememberances are perfection to the story line.
Anakin's training lessons and his new found ability to teach Ashoka the truth about fighting a war was incredible.
Also, the way Anakin would morph back and forth from Anakin to Darth Vader was the perfect touch for Ashoka's
training. This transfiguration forced Ashoka to confront her fear of death and accept the reality of the brutalities
of war.
The fight scenes, including the clone wars battles and siege of Mandalore are straight out of a George Lucas script.
Filoni redeemed himself with this episode.

Now for my negatives and I only have three.
The child actress playing Ahsoka doesn't look anything like young Ashoka. A good actor but a lame choice from an appearance standpoint.
Anakin's de-aging was poor at times.
Lastly. Thrawn. Lars Mickelson is the absolute worst choice for this character.
His mannerisms, voice tone, speech diction and all around impersonation is the complete opposite of what we have read in the books and saw in Star Wars Rebels.
Shall I continue? His hair is all wrong. The top of his head looks like a cruise ship listing terribly to the port side and is about to tip over.
The blue paint job looks exactly like that. A bad blue paint job. The paint is caked on and looks nothing like a natural skin hue.
Dudsney's budget must have required the make up department to use a can of Krylon purchased from Earl Scheib.
I'm not going to get into why does Thrawn have a beer belly.
Title: Re: Ahsoka

To be fair, Thrawn is pushing about 70 at this point in his career. He's less involved and more strategy.

Post by: Darth More on September 22, 2023, 01:12:50 AM
I want to apologize for my rant from Wednesday. It was a tough day. Won't have the chance t watch the rest of the show before Christmas. I really like the characters of Baylen and his padawan. It hurts that his actor passed away shortly after the show's production.
He reminds me of a good friend of mine. I think I just have to get used to the new pacing of the show and wish they wouldn't limit each season to just 8 episodes. With episodes being shorter and shorter, 30 minutes are not much time to tell a story. Maybe the story didn't progress as quickly as I wanted it to. Now Thrawn is finally there and if they plan to make a movie of him for theaters I'll be all in!

I really like the direction the show takes. Filoni really did an outstanding job on this one.

I'm sure many fans are hyped for the Zombie Stormtroopers we got now. All those mobile games with zombies or even Nazi zombies are popular for reasons I guess.
Title: Re: Ahsoka
Post by: Tamer on September 22, 2023, 03:01:25 AM
LOL Ron! I absolutely agree with your take on Thrawn. I was like ewwww!

Still, gotta go with RC's take on him being welll aged by now. I just pictured him as more robust without a comb over I guess. I wanted him to have that little creature around his next too (you know the ones that negate force effects). Ysamril or something along those lines. Its been a long time since I read those books.

I think we all like that AOTC episode too.

So yepper I like this one. I would judge it below Mandalorian but above Book of Boba Fett or maybe tied for BOBF.

So I really think the dark side presence that Baylin keeps detecting reaching out to him and why the nightsisters want to leave the planet is none other than Abeloth. Basically a dark-side aligned force goddess. Known for consuming force users and manipulation of both dark and light side users in the EU...

You may be right RC but if this "power" that is calling out to Baylon and we follow the history of Star Wars story lines
then could it possibly be Palpatine that he senses?

I do not think so only because it's a different galaxy. But I could be wrong? Whatever the source of power is it is has the nightsisters eager to leave their home planet of many generations. They are not the types to abandon their territory without some kind of extreme threat.

Palpatine's manifestation post-ROTJ appears to be exclusive to Exegol.
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Exegol

Whereas Peridea is an Extragalactic location far, far from Exegol, which is located back in the original galaxy...
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Peridea

There is a theme of death/dark side elements very prevalent on Peridea...

-The rings of the planet are made from Purrgil bones.

- There are giant monolithic statutes honoring some kind of figure. They appear to be the same or similar. I do not know if they are built to honor nightsisters or something...else.

-There appears to be other ancient structures dotting the landscape; temples similar to where Thrawn parked his ISD. Or the stone structures near where Sabine was ambushed by raiders.

I do not know if these structures are associated with the nightsisters or not. From an architectural standpoint...they seem very ancient.

-It a mysterious planet with a vast desolate and barren wasteland.

This came out after my post...

Ancient dark side Zeffo make a lot of sense!

I am a bit late to the game as I was waiting for "Ahsoka" to finish so I could binge it in 1 go.

It was a fun series.

The second half felt like a "Star Wars" version of a high fantasy like "Lord Of The Rings". It was interesting to see actual "magic" alongside use of the Force.

I am intrigued with where the story goes next. It would be VERY interesting if some form of time dilation caused Thrawn to arrive in the prime universe either AFTER "The Rise Of Skywalker" so his continuing story isn't just a pale imitation of his "Expanded Universe" (now "Legends", ugh 🙄 exploits) or his arrival creates a parallel timeline in which Episodes 7/8/9 never happened (or happened differently), but I doubt Disney has that kind of grand imagination.

Can't lie, this one didn't win me over much. It was ok, it was new Star Wars. I watched it. Thrawn's character personally and acting wise was weak imo.
Title: Re: Ahsoka

Personally I thought the final episode was a major disappointment.
The lightsaber fights and individual battles were well done but other than that: yaaaaawwwwwnnnnn!!
Obviously this is a set up episode for season 2 or an Ahsoka movie.
The almost total absence of Baylon and his apprentice was unfortunate and disappointing.
Now that we know there has to be a continuance of the series when will we see Zeb, Kanan (force ghost?)
Kallus, Bendu , Rex or many of the other characters?
So many possibilities that will never come to fruition. All thanks to dudsney.
