Hey folks,
I don't make too man SW customs these days, and most of the ones I've made are in 1/12th scale. But, this one here is an exception. I picked up the Fett Legacy pack a long while back for Jango and Boba, and really didn't have much use for the KOTOR Mando. So, I used the body and some of the parts to make another Mando, as well as some scratch-built armour, a Boba Fett helmet, and some junk fodder and accessories. Here's what I came up with:
The chest plate is made from 020 styrene. I also added some vinyl strips to the helmet to tie in the design:

The tunic is made from fabric...I wanted to see if I could incorporate it at this scale without it looking like the billowy soft goods of Hasbro's stuff:

The rocket/power pack is removable:

Thanks for looking!

Darth Vader (1/12th scale...or roughly 7 1/2" tall).
This custom used numerous Marvel Legends and Spawn figure parts to assemble the articulated body. The helmet is an original sculpt, incorporating Sculpey, Apoxie Sculpt, Epoxy Putty, styrene, and vinyl. The armour is styrene as well. The body suit is thin corduroy fabric, the capes are black fabric, and the belts and straps are leather.

Wow, Glorbes,That mando is killer! I love it!! What an excellent mix of parts and scratchbuilding! The additions to the helmet are great and I really like the backpack. You should do smaller figures more often if they are going to turn out like this!
That Vader figure is also a stunning piece of work. I can't believe you sculpted that helmet.
More figures, I must have, more figure pics!!

Stormtrooper (1/12th scale, or roughly 6")
This started out as a Marevl Legends X-Men Magneto figure that I dremelled the heck out of. The body suit is black fabric, the armour is styrene, vinyl, and apoxie sculpt, and the helmet is apoxie sculpt with vinyl strip detailing. The rifle is styrene tube, rod, and card.

Very nice, Glorbes! I love that Mando!
-
Nice ones Glorbes.
-
Who great customs. ;D
-
Wow, i agree, that mando is just fantastic. Couldn't bring myself to destroy that kotor mandalore though.
-
HELL YES! :o
ok... now that I have recovered from my shock and awe....
That mando is amazing. I love it. Pure and simple awesomeness. Honestly before I read what you had written and just glanced at the first image I thought it was a steampunk mando, which it could very well pass off as one. The subdued earth tones of the brown on brown make an awesome combination! The scratch built armor is enogh like traditional mando "fett" armor that it's recognizable but enough originality that it sets it apart from anything I've ever seen.
The helmet is in it's own ball park alltogether. the added vinyl strips are an excelent touch, the antenae are also an excelent touch.
but despite all of that... I think the most AMAZING part of this figure is the cloth tunic and the leather straps and holsters. THAT blows this into a whole new legue of customizing.
Glorbes, you HAVE to tell me what you used to make that leather holster and give me a detailed how-to.... That is just boggling my mind how amazing it looks.
Are you sure your not lying to us and that that mando figure is actually a 12inch scale? :P
as for the other figures... without the wip pic of the stormtrooper I'd never believed you'd scratch built it! (except for the gun, that you can tell was scratch built, BUT NOT IN A BAD WAY).
I would never have believed that those helmets were scratch built either... amazign work my friend.
-
all of them are master pieces! Exceptional work my friend! Welcome to the yard!!
-
i remember these from "the scum" flippin awesome!
-
Daggone, I definitely got off the forums too early last night. Geesh what great customs. Love the Mando too, but all are just great. On the front page.
-
I too remember these Glorbs...some of your finest work. I love that Mando,
-
AWESOME CUSTOMS!!they look awesome
-
Holy crap that mando is freaking awesome!!!
It really does look like a steam punk mando, one Ive wanted to do for a while myself.
The colors and kitbash that went into it are just superb.
The vader and stormie are very very well put together and blow my sculpting skills away. Awesome job on those, and welcome to the yards.
-
i love that scratch stormtrooper!
-
Glorbes...Welcome to the Yards!!! Awesome....Awesome customs!

OMG ! 6 inches of awesomeness *picks up jaw* ! This is what I have been dreaming of doing ! 12/10 !
-
Daggone Jules that is another great one. I will get it on the fp soon. Boy great custom with great custom image just really kicks things up a notch on both ends. I need to go update our desktop wallpapers backgrounds with these last few images, but I think I need a small break from the computer for a bit.
-
Again, fellas...thanks so much for the warm welcome! HangarBay, that photoshop looks pretty fantastic. Great color choices...and very seamless. I'm honored to have been 'hangarbayed' ;D

Clone Wars 6" scale customs 2006
I figured I'd do a round-up here of a series of customs I made in 2006. They're my own variation on the Clone Wars, sort of more in line with what I imagined they were like before Lucas started filling in the history with the prequels and cartoons. That being said, I also incorporated Grievous and Plo Koon...mainly because they're so cool 8) These are all in six inch scale...which means that the Grievous stands roughly 8" tall at full height. Grievous was also the most involved by far, incorporatinga ton of sculpting, meshing parts from 6 different figures, and finished off with styrene armour.

Glorbes, I don't think that these are a bit wonky. It looks alot more like pure genius at work in your creations. It's like part steampunk and part dark ages. I had chose either anakin or obi as a favorite and then you posted again and I saw Chewie and Han. Dude, this stuff is great! I'll wait to do a FP story till you are done posting but one of these will certainly be there.
-
Awesome customs!!
-
Dude, those are absolutely incredible! Such great use of medium!
-
pretty darn nice for being wonky vadsab vadsab
-
I lost my cheese when I saw that Han and Chewie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! O0
Man those are awesome! Is chewie a windigo?
-
You know what? I love them.. they're not film/TV/comic/etc accurate, but they have their own coolness too them, almost like life-size sculptures or something... I really love that Yoda.. kinda reminds me of Yogurt, lol..
I'd love to see some more, especially some Mandos or Bounty Hunters... I think the rag-tag armor look might go perfectly with your scratch built look. Oh, and Han and Chewie are just killer.. and 3PO? I'd hit it... :o
;D
-
only wonky because they are (I'm assuming) based on mcquarrie concept paintings. Which when compared to the traditional finalized versions of the characters they do look wonky.
HOWEVER.
your figures are brilliant, they far surpass anything I've ever done. They are pure genious. the use of the 6inch scale allows for so much more details, and a more efficient use of soft goods.
your work is very similar to the customizer "sillof" who also does alot of work in the 6" scale, he mainly focuses on steampunk figures and other sci-fi figs.
anyway, I degress. I love the mcquarrie concept figures the best. I love the c-3p0 and r2 especially. I like the chewbacha too, I actually have that marvel 12" figure... I've been thinking about using it to make a huge wampa figure... lol
-
yes, your work far surpasses spudafett(which I know, is not really a sought after accolade). :)
I love this stuff, C3P0 is my favorite, but they are all brillant.

Quite simply two of the coolest, most unique Star Wars customs I have EVER seen. I LOVE that they're fresh and your own artistic interpretations of the characters , I love how mythical and purely swashbuckling fantasy they both are. Absolutely gorgeous work!
^-^ wowwww
Yoda (Version 2) with McQuarrie 'Luke'
hmm, I'm not sure what it's like to fall for a 6" tall toy woman in all honesty but if I ever did, she would be the one. (https://mail.google.com/mail/e/B0C) Dude, that's amazing!
all of them are primo stellar works of art though, NOTHING wonky about any of your work, bro!
-
Great to see you over here G and teh newe Mando looks awesome, and great to see your older figures as well mate.
Ron
-
Glad to see you dusted these off for us Glorbes. I love all of them as much as I did years ago when you made them. Simply brilliant!
-
DUDE! Holy Wow! I love them all but my faves are Han And Chew. Then There's that "Luke" ( Leia) Holy Cow Man !
Great looking figures, I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
-
Man those customs are freaking awesome!!!
-
your work is very similar to the customizer "sillof" who also does alot of work in the 6" scale, he mainly focuses on steampunk figures and other sci-fi figs.
Sillof and I have collaborated in the past on a series of Star Wars Customs:
http://www.toymania.com/customcorner/cc19/sw2.shtml
Vader, the Stormtrooper, and Fett are my contributions. I'm actually working on a couple of projects with him at the moment.
Anywho, here are a couple more customs:
SANDTROOPER
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Hutchi/custom%20images/2009_0114sandtrooper0018.jpg)
This stormtrooper was my first real attempt at making the full body armour from scratch. The latches are all pretty chunky and obvious, and the articulation was really hindered, but the main attraction for me here is the accessories. The trooper I posted previously was made after this one, and incorporated many of the lessons I learned from making this, and I think is overall a better figure. The head sculpt on this one here also has some serious isues, but like I said, I figured I'd showcase this one for its details and as a point of interest to see how I've refined my finished products.

The completed rifle

This particular rifle from the film was a barely converted German machine gun that was used as a defensive weapon on board Luftwaffe planes (an MG-15 or something). I love the double magazine, and I like the fact that it's different from the usual Stormtrooper equipment.
The completed backpack
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Hutchi/custom%20images/2009_0114sandtrooper0011.jpg)
This is actually pretty close to the film prop...I'm particularly pleased with how it turned out.

Made from a vending machine dome, a loctite super glue container, and some sheet styrene. He's perfectly in scale with 6" figures (I've been working a threepio overhaul for a year now...I may just revisit both of them).

The legs are articulated at the shoulders and ankles, the middle leg is retractable, and the head rotates.

These are beautiful works of art, they belong in a museum! All of them! I just don't know what else to say...
-
Glorbes, I honestly think you are trying to melt my brain with all of this sculpted magic. You sir, are a truly talented builder on an entirely different level. I am so glad you decided to join us here.
For the life of me, I can't decide what pic from your latest posting should go on the front page. They all look so cool.
That Sandtrooper gun is quite over the top, though. I may be leaning towards the Grievous but I'm not sure.
That first shot of Grievous' build up reminds me of the 4 armed martians from the John Carter Warlord of Mars series of books.
That other page you directed us to was full of glorious figures as well. Now, those were all yours or yours and sillof's together?
-
My jaw hurts....cause it just hit the desk.
That Grievous is amazing.
-
HOLY SHIT!! BROTHER THESE ARE SOME OF THE MOST CREATIVE THINGS IVE EVER SEEN ARE YOU AN ARTIST BY TRADE? If not you should be.
-
Glorbes, your sculpting ability is simply amazing. Honestly, your works, in the size and medium, are some of the greatest I've ever seen. I absolutely LOVE your Boba Fett, and to watch the build up of that Grievous is awe inspiring. Keep them coming, we'd love to see more!
-
Wow, the Grievous is amazing. Excellent work. Excellent.
-
Your customs just go one step beyond anything I've seen before...they really defy belief.
Amazing!
-
Excellent work on those bud.
-
these are sweet dude, that grievous is sick!
-
WHOA!!!!that grievous is awesome
-
Great, wooooooooooow!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
-
These are not like anything I have ever seen!!!
You are in a league of your own!!!
Great work!!!
Keep it up!! Can't wait to see more!!!

Glorbes your stuff rocks, it always has.

Black Series See-Threepio!
Years ago, I had pieced the torso and head of the Epic Force 3P0 together with some ML Spider-Man and Gambit parts I had used for a previous custom of the infamous protocol droid...and that's where it stopped. I finally figured 'hey, half the work is done...finish it up and you'll have a place holder until the official 3P0 figure comes out’.
The main bit of grunt work was the groin and pelvis. I had to grind away at that to fit the epic force crotch, which in turn had to be hollowed out. It was just a matter of patience and trial and error until I could fit the parts over the legs. This of course meant that the legs did not fit flush with the connection to the pelvis...but its a placeholder, and it isn't perfect.
The sculpt work on the arms and legs is old, and it is not without lots of flaws. The knees and shoulders...are off-model to put it generously. I could have sculpted over them, but I wanted to maintain what little articulation remained (though 3P0 wasn't all that articulated in the movies).
The paint job was a basecoat of silver lacquer with a top coat of Tamiya clear yellow. I painted the eyes white and did a precise drybrush in an attempt to get the grill effect over the white. It just looks mottled in the photos.
He's not perfect, but he looks great with R2 on the shelf. I'll be buying the official release, but since much of the work was done, it made sense to finish him. Maybe I'll turn him into U-3P0 or a protocol droid bounty hunter or something stupid.
Let me know what you think, and thanks for looking.
-
Off to the front page... ;D
-
Excellent 3P0
-
wow nicely done !! it works really well with the other 6 inch figures as do the parts ..... great job
-
Great work! Who needs "official" when the best figures are created by fans? I stopped collecting long ago and built my own universes. Keep it up!!!
-
As usual the Glorbemeister hits a home run and awesome work buddy and great to see your work again.
Ron

Okay, so this project was begun nearly a year ago, and had a WIP thread in the shop talk section. I lost the interest and drive to finish him, until this past week.

Been a while since I customized anything, but had an idea for a wee little project.
Yoda

I figured I’d give expanding the Black Series another go. I’m sure Yoda will be in the line at some point if it survives, but I kind of assume we’ll be getting a prequel version instead of an ESB version, so I thought that making one based on the look of the puppet would be my best bet.

This is 100% scratch made. I used some metal wire for the armature, sculpted the head with Aves, and made his hands and feet with plumbers epoxy. I bulked out the body with aluminum foil and wrapped it in duct tape, and dressed him in the same fabrics I used for my live sized Yoda, then coated them in glue. The wire body means that he can be posed in a few limited ways.

He stands about 2 ¾ “ in height, and looks pretty good in terms of scale (at least to my eyes) to the 6” Black Series figures.

I’d love to tackle his hut at some point.

Wow, that must be nice to just sit down and make exactly what you want. Just fantastic! We can but hope if Hasbro ever gives us one that it looks half as good as this one. Thanks for sharing. You can read more comments on the front page.

Nice job! Looks great for scratch-built.
Just so you know, Hasbro is releasing an ESB Yoda this spring and you can already preorder him. ;D

Yeah, but that's for the 3 3/4" line, not the 6" line (which is what this custom is for).
Thanks for the kind words, guys...and for the front page boost :)
