I know I've put most of my non-star wars stuff in my normal thread but here lately I've been doing more and more non-star wars stuff so I thought I'd start my own thread in this section....

In a mash-up of the joe-verse and marvel's Iron Man...
Hammer's company fails to secure a military contract after Vanko destroyed his drone's at the stark expo... however the para-military organization known as COBRA was watching. Cobra already had their own drones, known as BAT's, and had been waiting for the right opourtunity to aquire stark's Iron Man technology to incorporate it into their own mechanized army...
thus a new version of Battle Android Troopers were created... The Hammer BAT.
This new version of the BAT combined the best elements of the hammer drones with the best features of the original BAT's. The ARC Reactor energy source and advanced Hammer (stolen stark) robotics created the heart and brawn of the machine.... The modular weponry and the artificial inteligence was inspired by the original BAT design. All the classics of the BAT armory is included, as well as a few new items.
Most notably the standard hand is replaced by a flight stabilizing palm repulsor unit.
The stark Repulsor design incorporated into this version of the BAT makes it flight capable as well.

comparing it to the 25th BAT figure:

the mandatory BAT back-pack:

the chest plate is removable, a small pin was used to hold it in place and is the reason there is a small hole in the arc reactor...

Arm attachments are made possible by using the 25th BAT's elbow joint and modifying the forarms of the WM figure to fit onto them:

SWEET!!! Where is the second head from? Different BAT version?
-
SWEET!!! Where is the second head from? Different BAT version?
the main head that I have on there is the BAT from the 25th aniversary line, but the other head is also a version of the bat from one of the older lines of joes. I believe it's called the "version 3" BAT... that, coincidentally is also the same figure that the chestplate came from.

woow man really nice!
-
Spud, that is wicked! I'm really digging it!

here is yet another IM custom... been doing alot of these lately...
I fixed the glowing light up iron man mark 6. The bleedthrough of the LED in the torso was more than I could handle. Other than that this is an amazing figure with amazing articulation dispite the electronics. I'm realy impressed with this one.... and for me to be impressed by a stock figure is hard to do.
but alas... there is always room for improvement.
I took the figure completely apart by cracking the torso. I then painted the insides of the figure to prevent any more bleed through of the light.
here is the result:
and if your interested here are my stock iron man figures that I've collected so far:

thanks. I appreciate that. But unfourtunately even if I worked for them they wouldn't impliment most of my ideas because of the cost when mas-produced.... :( lol

Dr. Doom obtains stark tech. and builds his own mechanized army of Iron-DoomBots.... Or "doomstarks" or "dark iron men" whatever you want to call them...
Doom is a marvel universe doom with a working holster (roc scarlett) and a custom swoord (handle from res. CC's and blade from Indie. Mutt) and scabbard (from res. CC).
Doomstark is a re-LED and Repaint of the mark6 power glow armor. A green LED has replaced the original as well as a full repaint in Doom's green and silver (pluss some red paint where in the joints.... ??? )

Tony stark:
Basically he is a Wolverine origines wolverine with the blades cut off the hands and a head swap. The new head is from the Breaker (i think? he's the french dude with the computer)...
and the gauntlets and hands are from a spare power glow iron man that I shortened and hollowed out to fit over the forearms of the wolvie fig. By removing the wolverine hands you can slide the gauntlets over the wrists and then the IM hands go in the fig's normal post holes.

That is a great concept, and terrific work with the colors and LED. I really need to get into doing some of those Marvel customs!

Cobra Island's swamp is full of booby traps and viscous wild animals... who puts them all there? The Croc Master. the Croc Master breeds the biggest and most viscous reptiles to inhabit his swamp... but not all is as it seems, some of his reptiles are more than meet's the eye!
original croc master:

This project started when a friend of mine gave me a transforming crocodile last month and I imediately had the idea of making it into a Battle Android Trooper and getting ahold of a Croc Master to customize with it...
thankfully viper sent me a croc master body to finish this project...
the only thing changed on the transformer was I dremeled off it's face and glued on the front half of a cast resin BAT head.
the croc master custom's recipe is as follows:
head:
night adder
body:
Gen. Hawk
arms, legs, belt:
croc master
and I'm especially proud of the vest. it's custom tailored by myself out of genuine stingray skin. I ordered a few pelts of it on e-bay a while back for various projects and always thought it would make an awesome croc-master vest.... just never had a reason until now to make it!

another day, another

Looks good. What a great combination of parts. This looks like it could majorly destroy stuff.
-
I can see I didn't post the newest one, but there is a lot of catching up I need to do here. I really like the BAT mix.
-
That Crock Master and BAT Croc are freakin' AWESOME! I love what you did with the stingray pelt, too!
-
I love that BAT croc. Nice work, Devin!
-
Man, I'm really digging that BAT Iron Man, and the Dr. Doom Iron Man. Awesome.
-
Awesome! I love the crock idea. Very cool!
-
why is everyone saying its awesome ? its flabbergastingly uber cool
-
great man, like the croc!
-
Very awsome customs bud loving that im bat mix outstanding!!!!!!!
-
I really like that BAT Croc mix. Back on the front page. Makes me wonder why Hasbro hasn't done any GI Joe Transformers crossovers?
-

they issued a comic where the transformers were brainwashed by cobra into working for them... and a few autobots helped the joes and faught on their side if I remember the story correctly... but they weren't realy "crossovers" in the sense of the toy lines, more in the sense of storylines crossing.
A few folks on the net around on the joe forums have made a few crossover transformers out of the old vintage joe vehicles. there is one somewhere that someone did of a "rolling thunder" optimus. they basically scratch built a transformer in the 1:18th scale out of an old missile launching trailer and semi!
I just wish there were more 1:18th scale transformers!
-
I like the original Croc Master better. He's always been my favorite GI-Joe right after Snake Eyes. Cool Transforming Croc though.

you don't like the stingray skin vest :(.... He basically is the original croc master, just with a different torso and updated head. I felt like the original head looked too much like a guy with a black skin cap on...
-
yeah, maybe it's just nostalgia man. I love those 25th anniversary GI-Joes. Only a couple of them needed customizing. I do like that vest, just always liked Croc master even with his ski mask. I always thought about throwing Cobra commander with a squad of his troops into a Mos Eisely diorama.

I've taken a bunch of WIP shots so far to show you the progress. I'm realy happy with how it turned out. I have it finished but I'm waiting for the paint to dry to take photos...

as you can see from the previous WIP pics I've done basically the same thing other customizers have done and kit bashed the snake armor over the iron monger and cut out the faceplate so that it's removable. I did go the extra step and filled in the cut section of the removable plate with apoxie sculpt so that it fit back together better.
I also cut the thumb on the right hand off and adjusted it's placement so that it could better hold a weapon.
ok enough talk, on to the awesomeness:

I realy wish I'd have had one more of those 6 stickers... i'd have loved to put it right in the center of the figure so that the number read "6 6 6".... but oh well.
so what do yall think? good? no? what should I do different or add?
-
that is one very very cool custom spud
-
Man thats awesome looking.

they look great!

nice work on that one, Spud. he sure does look menacing..........
What do they think of this one over at st6?

actually I'm not the first person over there to do this mod. Two other guys had done this kit bash over there and that's where I got the idea. They liked it though, noone had done this particular paint deco yet.
I plan on doing a second one since this one turned out so well. it will have added firepower, and be bristling with weapons and have a camo paint deco.
-
This combination looks great. I don't think a sword alone would take one of these out. On the front page.
-
That SNAKE is fantastic!
-
errrrrr GABBASERSYLOUSLY GREAT .. this is a speicial custom
-
what started out as me just trying to do a few simple modifications to the MU black widow figure turned into a much bigger project.
I started out only wanting to fix the elbow joint and give her some exposed cleavage (who doesn't enjoy that?).
but once I got to working with the figure I realy wanted some extra detail on the legs... so I threw on a pair of agent helix legs and painted the hips to match the grey legs... then I got to looking at the figure and the stock head that comes with it just looks undersized to me so I threw together a new head. the head is agent helix with the hair from a baroness fig (I think).
I had to do a little sculpting on the forehead of the helix head to get the hair to sit right and look decent so there is a little wrinkling there that I'm disapointed in... everything else I'm realy happy with though.

Now that is a fine example of spuda re-engineering of a figure. Heck, Devin, that one looks almost factory fresh.
Good job.

it's amazing what a little white primer will do for skin tones.... I finally found me a bottle of testors white primer so I used that on the chest area before painting the flesh tones... makes a world of difference.
-
I'm really liking what I've seen mate great work all round.
Ron
-
another awesome creation. Good job on moding the head and hair.
-
another awesome creation. Good job on moding the head and hair.
thanks. It was realy simple. Just had to fill in a little bit of the peg hole with apoxi sculpt, and like I said I didn't wait long enough to start messing with it for the sculpt to harden so it got a little rinkled, but you don't see it in the photos that bad...
my question is should I leave her a brounette or repaint the hair so that she's a redhead like she is with the original figure?
-
Dude, red heads are hotter! haha and more accurate for your figure.
-
I guess I can't realy take credit for this, I'll call this my sister's first custom figure.
she took the coat and tightened it up with a couple seams on the sewing machine. She crimped it at the side seam that was already there and did a new stich from the arm pits to the waist to tighten it up a little, and then did a new stitch down the front on each side to lock the colar down and keep it from being all flappy....
anyways, maybe you can tell what I'm talking about by the photos:

my take on bat man, inspired by another customizer's version that uses a similar recipe (from a dif. forum).
i'm also working on my own take on the main "villian" from the new animated bat-man move "bat man: under the red hood"
here is a promo shot of "the red hood"
I won't ruin for you who the red hood is, or what his character is, but if you like bat-man I suggest you watch the movie. It's short, but it's pretty good.
here is my take on "the red hood" so far:

That Nick Fury is SO much better. That's been one of my complaints since they started making soft goods Jedi robes: They're too fluffy, if you will. Your sister did well.
I'll be interested to see what comes of your Batman and Red Hood. You always do well with the G.I. Joes, so I'm betting they'll look good!
-
i agree is sooo much better man!!
-
That looks really cool! are you going to make a display base for it?
-
That looks really cool! are you going to make a display base for it?
hb was this post supposed to go in someone else's thread?... if not... then I'll go on and answer you with a big ol' no sir. I haven't gotten the motivation to do display bases yet... although I realy wish I would. I still havn't even started working on my iron man diorama scene yet, I just can't get motivated to start such a large project these days. Too much other stuff to do.
anyways, keep an eye on this thread tonight as I'll be uploading finished pictures of bat-man and the red hood, as well as a few shots of the repainted bat-mobile.
-
im too tired at the moment to upload all the photos tonight but I got one uploaded that kinda catches all three of the afore-mentioned items in one shot:
you'll have to wait until I get some shut-eye and can actually see strait to upload the rest of the individual photos...
-
Your sister did that nick fury? That is so flippin cool!!
I really like your wip shots of the red faced batman. I love that you go to tackle concepts like that, Devin.

I really like your wip shots of the red faced batman. I love that you go to tackle concepts like that, Devin.
thanks clint, yeah my sister worked the sewing machine on that fury figure! She laughed because apparently she had to do the same type "doctoring" to a shirt of her own that had the same fitting issues that fury's trenchcoat had... but she did say that it was the smallest item of clothing she's ever sewed!
the batman/robin figures came out alot better than I'd hoped, they could be improved upon but I like em. I'll post the rest of the photos up tomorow sometime, I've been up for 27 hours strait as of right now so I'm a little bit tired....
-
I really like the batman wip. I think batman would have looked like this before he ultimately worked his way into the full bat type costume. Are you thinking you might add some small bat type points to the helmet? I think your Red Hood is spot on, especially the helmet detial and coloring. By chance is that helmet removeable to who is underneath with small mask may I ask? I did love the new movie and also agree it was too short.
-
to answer tamers questions...:
In my mind this is an older, more battle hardened bat man. As bruce realizes that as he steps up his game, the criminals also escalate... The intricacy at which criminals now commit their crimes causes Bruce to come at them in even more intricate ways.
So this version of the Bat-man has a stronger suit of armor, a more urban camo color scheme to help him blend into the shadows even more, and a new helmet which has it's own power source for driving an echo-location "see in the dark" unit as well as other night vision, and hearing amplifiers...
so... for your consideration, The Bat-Man:

Devin;
I love the concept of a more armored, older batman. Did you by chance ever read frank miller's The Dark Night graphic novel?
I could see this guy giving some more heavily armed terrorist types a good working over.

"the red hood"
In my verse the red hood is a ruthless crime-lord and mercenary... but in reality he is his own breed of vigilante. He dishes out a type of justice that most hero's won't attempt. He isn't afraid to kill if it means serving the greater good.
Trained as robin by the bat man he has the skill set of a true urban hero... but instead of trying to beat the criminals, he controls them, allowing them to do their buisness as long as it doesn't get out of hand...
he is quoted as telling his drug dealers that "if you deal to children, you are dead"...
this "unjust justice" eventually causes the red hood to come to blows with his former teacher...

No I havn't read that... to be quite honest I've never realy been a huge comics fan. but that's not because I don't like them, but rather I've never realy had the oppourtunity to read many. Is the one you mentioned online anywhere? If so I'd probably find time to read it.
I still need to find a cape for this figure. The guy's fig that I modelled this one after used a modified darth vader cape and glued it to the removable chest armor... but I don't have a spare vader cape anymore so I need to find some thin fabric and cut my own. I also want to insert a wire into the top edge to make the cape stand out and open when I want it to.

not sure about it being online but I think that you would like it. It shows an older, more battle hardened batman like you mentioned and puts him into a darker, more modern environment than what the older comics did.
Devin, did you ever see how I made my paper mache capes? I have impregnated them with lengths of wire before to make them more poseable like you suggest.
-
Love the new Bat-Man. I see he does have bat type points. He looks pretty tough without his cape imo. You are gonna have to make a bat cave after the Hall of Armors. The only thing that I could see added is Red Hood's helmet off version.

If I did a helmet off version of the red hood I think I'd probably take a younger looking head and sculpt some "robin" style hair onto it and then just paint on his robin mask as in the toon.
I have a bat-girl figure that I have been wanting to customize but since I've got these guys IDK if I shouldn't just throw her in with them. It's a microman batgirl.
-
nice ones!!!!!
-
Frank Miller's Batman was really good. You should go find it.
I also recommend the "The Killing Joke" and my favorite Batman "The Cult"
Nice work on the Batman and Redhood, by the way.
-
Devin I like the sound of the Red Hood construction. Go for it. That being said I just looked at this Bat man again and really wish they would have done something like this in the new anime movie. I think we are all used to the old costume and I do think Bat man would have been more like this with armor and gadgets and would have changed his look every once in awhile to keep the criminals guessing. Anyhow, on the front page. Good customs get that here period.
-
thanks for the FP treatment tamer! I realy enjoyed making these two, and I got material for a cape today just need to get it fixed and put on there.
I'll post images of the caped crusaider whenever I get him finished up.
and I doubt there is going to be a bat-cave on my to-do list :( I havn't even gotten started on my IM dio yet...
-
these are wicked awesome
-
Dude!..... I love the Joe crossovers to Batman! The new Firefly joe figure actually looks like the Green Goblin to me. If you pick up another Pursuit of Cobra Firefly maybe you could make an armored Green Goblin?
-
your right, it does look alot more like gobbie.
I doubt that I'd do a green goblin though because there are 3.75" gobbie figs out there, allbeit they aren't the armored movie version (which admittingly would be pretty slick).
-
Mate the hood looks great and I like the use of the parts you used, but that batman is just frickin brillant you could actually see him wearing soemthing like this 10/10.
Ron

Amazing works, Spud! I love the Red Hood.

thanks... I got a vader cape for him but I keep meaning to insert some wiring into it to make "bat fingers" in the cape so that it stands on it's own....

**top secret**
U.S. Military research file #HD1001
Following the events at the stark expo concerning Hammer Industries' illegal work with known criminal Ivan Vanko all remaining contracts with Hammer industries have been terminated.
Due to national security reasons all data and prototypes concerning the drone armors has been confiscated and Hammer Industries has been shut down permenantly.
Despite being controlled by Ivan Vanko, the drone armors showed considerable promise for military application.
Prototypes based on these designs have been built by the U.S. Military to begin use in the field to minimize reliance on Iron Man and the War Machine armored suits.
The following images depict the first U.S. assault drone designated "MD-J" (Marine Drone- Jungle variant).
On the left is Hammer Industries' prototype "weapons assault" drone. The right is "MD-p"
As you can see from the following image the "MD" model is modular, allowing the use of several interchangable weapons platforms. Developed so far is a "brushcutter" chain saw and a heavy machine gun attachment for the forearms:
the drone also has an advanced optics option which increases the machine's visual sensory data recognition abilities, also allowing it to operate under low-light senarios. There are also mounting brackets for a high tech guile suit.*
(http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2010/278/7/b/im2_marine_drone_4_by_spudafett-d306dfs.jpg)
The following images are depicting the MD-J in it's final mission capable stage of production with fully operational guille suit:
As you can see the guille suit greatly increases the stealth capabilities of this drone unit and the modular weapon system makes it a versatile platform for missions which require adaptability....
*Cammo Guille suit is based on comandeered technology aquired from the terrorist organization known as "Cobra."
-
Spuda, wonderful man! just wonderful!!!!
-
Spuda, wonderful man! just wonderful!!!!
thanks HB.
one thing I want to point out is that I didn't paint the guille suit to match because I made it completely removable so that I could put it BACK onto my jungle viper. I know it'd tie it all together more if I repainted it but it was honestly more an experiment at how easy it would be to transfer that accessory to another figure. It works pretty well, and those little yellow pin-heads worked amazingly well for mounting the two fore-arm pieces of the suit.
-
I love the addition of the Jungle Viper's stealth pieces to that Drone. IT looks awesome, my friend!
-
What I like is the possibility to see more mounted weapons. I love the idea of added accesories. I did like the stealth camo too. Great idea.
-
here is a reference pic from the movie if you guys are interested, or havn't seen the movie yet:

The army drone... or "ground assault" drone as hasbro called it... is probably the most decent of the drone figures in my oppinion. But there's one problem. The cannon's backpack is constructed in a way where the gun can only swivel up or down, there is no side to side motion and the vertical range is very limited.
I set out to fix this.
Using one of my push-pins with a ball head I trimed the gun's mounting bracket as well as the mount on the backpack end. I drilled a hole into the gun's bracket and used that as a psudo-ball socket for the pin head to seat into.
and voila: better range of movement:

not much of a custom, but I thought it was worth sharing.... thought you guys might like to make this fix to yours as well.
-
I started working on a final battle whiplash armor....
thought I'd share my progress.
the large work is done, just have little stuff to work on.
I'm going to re-sculpt his hair up in the little pony-tail as per the movie... and because I had to trim off the lower part of the hair to make it fit into the neck space on the drone...
I'm going to add some greeblies to the arms and back to bring it closer to the movie...
I've got to construct and attach the "skirt" of armor.. I counted at least 5 parts to it in the film. There is a long cod-piece, two pieces that hang in front of the thighs and then two more that hang behind his rear. I've yet to figure out how I'll make these, probably out of glued together pieces of styrene.
then the entire thing needs to be repainted so that it matches.
I plan on base-coating it with grey primer and probably going with a dark grey and gunmettal paint scheme. It is dificult to tell in the movie what the armor's colors were but from what I could tell it was an unpainted, dark silver or gunmetal look with the mechanical bits still in silver....
what do you guys think? coming together nicely or no?
another project I started today is a "super drone" or Drone War-Machine.... basically a combination of the main parts of all the drones into one suped up machine:

That War Drone looks bad a$$. I so have to get the latest IM2 movie. I haven't seen it yet.

Female vipers were originally introduced as a gimic among the ranks of cobra soldiers to boost overall morrale... the thought was that give the men a good looking woman to impress and they'd work harder...
turned out that the women who joined were more trouble than cobra commander had thought... they incited riots among the men, apparently getting enjoyment out of watching the men fight.
This sparked the formation of an all female group of vipers... their obvious need for destruction was harnessed and the femme-vipers were created. In alot of ways their thirst for destruction and meyhem out-classed the best male vipers.

construction notes:
The main torso, thighs, and upper arms are from the yellow power ranger figure, got it clearanced at WM for 4.50
the lower arms and legs are from the roc barroness. The knee joint fit pretty well into the PR fig, they are a little loose but some paint in there to add some friction did the trick...
I painted the chest symbol on after failing to get a sticker to look right... the paintwork on this one is pretty crappy. I plan on doing a second so hopefully I won't screw it up too.
the head is a random joe head, it's actually male, no alteration other than adding scarlett's pony tail to the back and the removable resolute viper helmet.
the harness, holster, and skirt are all scratch built. The holster was made by wrapping a small amount of fabric around a gun, and supergluing it into the shape I wanted. Then removing the gun.
-
Hell yeah man, she looks aweosme!!! :o
;D ;D ;D
-
hey, wow, she is super hot... eh, cool, great work!
-
Now THAT looks sick, buddy! The female characters are very rare these days, but are so much more fun to do! I really have to start keeping my eye out for these figures to use myself. If there is one point on her I'm not huge on, it's her skirt: I'm not sure I like the tan in it. I think I'd rather see it in a blue or black, possibly even a red. The tan just sticks out too much to me.

yeah... the skirt was a last minute addition I added mainly to cover up her hip articulation. The articulation in the power ranger figures is pretty shoddy, and it caused ALOT of paint rub.... so I just needed the skirt to cover that, the tan was the only color material I had. I am going to try and go back and re-paint it and the holster black to try and tie it all in better. your not the first to point out that obvious clash.
-
Not that I don't think that skirt is definitely a great addition, I'd just like to see it in a different color is all. Still, it's a wonderful figure. I definitely need to go out and start hitting the clearance aisles again.

The skirt is another nice touch!

I too like the skirt and think the whole effect is great and like the idea of a different color of it too. It is hard to believe there is a guy's face under that mask ruining the overall effect for me Devin! Great figure though.

she is hot, pic #1 looks like a perfect pose to show up on a poster. great work, the black skirt works very well.

Devin, I LOVE her! Now, if you can arrange a date, that'd be swell. That black skirt with gun belt and holster really cap off that figure, seriously. Great job my man, very awesome.
-
nice one spud she looks sexy and mean! ooh errrr
-
I have plans to do another one... so hopefully she'll look just as good!
thanks for all the compliments guys. I realy appreciate it.

I like the new skirt color and the high heels boots. I must say though that pic of the first one putting the missle behind her back sure does look good!

yeah I guess I need to reshoot those pics with the re-worked figure...
so I changed my mind about making a second version. I'll be using my spare power ranger figure for a new Shadows of the Empire custom, anyone guess who I'm going to be making?
-
I really did like that book. I am hoping its the assassin droid or perhaps a version of leia?
-
Great work mate the skirt really makes this figure.
Ron
-
uhhhh . and to think im trying to know where the hq of cobra is now ! ;D

Now that I've got the hot chick custom fever out of my system i returned to work on Vanko.
as you can see I started work on the "skirt armor". I've used polystyrene sheet to litterally carve out the bits of the armor, and then attached them using bits of pleather fabric to allow them some movement. Hopefully it'll all look like it's meant to go together after I paint it to match.
-
man that looks seriously nice!

Picked this little gem from the past up today for 6.99 at the local peddler's mall... It was MIB, but I realy couldn't resist tearing into it and putting new batteries in and generally flying around my room shooting missiles at the cats...

so, if you can't tell it's an independance day alien fighter! I've only seen ONE of these ever listed on e-bay and it was going for well over 30 bucks. I couldn't pass this babe up.
The funniest thing is that on the box it advertized a "mission disk" with a little computer game on it... the "system requirements" said "must have windows 3.1 or better!"
HA!... I open the box and it's a freaking floppy disk!
back to the toy, this thing is superb, they just don't make toys like this anymore. It's got lights and sound clips of the engines and blasters firing up and shooting, it's got two missile launchers that came with (get this!) EXTRA missiles... do you EVER see extra missiles packed with vehicles these days?!!? and it has two little bombs that drop out of a compartment underneath... AND it had a pilot.
now as you can see from the pics the ship is realy small. So is the pilot. The alien only comes to duke's knees!
I'm realy debating on whether or not to customize this or not. I would like to customize it to fit a joe figure... I think there is more than enough room in the cock-pit for some jimmying around... but I don't know if I want to risk completely destroying this rare gem either. what do you guys think?
-
LOL! A "floppy" what? That looks like a nice gem you picked up.

woow man thats great! a floppy disk????!!

Noo man, this is amazing, the paint job is really well done!!
Amazing work man! ;D ;D ;D

Great build spud! Everything came together very nicely and the paint work brings it all together.

Gatling camel...
why?
because, like the demotivation said, I wanted one.

strange idea...
great looking figure, nice desert outfit!!
-
the figure is not a custom, it's the POC "dusty" joe.
-
the figure is not a custom, it's the POC "dusty" joe.
ah, I see, ... now you know that I am not familiar with the Joes ;) anyway a cool looking outfit.
-
LOL!!! that is awesome !!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D O0
-
LOL. Absoultey hilarious, needless to say expect to see it on our fp sometime soon.
-
I love how the whiplash figures turned out, Devin. No, I think the paint job did him justice.
LOL on the gattling gun camel. Nice presentation, dude.
-
thanks guys! glad I got whiplash finished, he's been sitting on my table and I've been slowly working on him a little at a time each time. I'm glad I took it slow though otherwise I doubt he'd have turned out as good...
as for the gatling camel, thats just pure fun. here is another one that was basically for fun and done on an impulse:
a "movie-verse" version of the crome dome helmeted Cobra Commander....
actually this custom is a result of me picking up a 'black guard' tron figure and going "that head would make a sweet cobra comander!...."

Ok, so that Gatling Camel is freaking awesome! When I saw the headline, I was thinking of the horse in Jonah Hex, but yours is so much cooler!
And your finished Whiplash is sweet looking! Great job on the armor Devin.
-
nice cobra commander ! that does make a good head
-
Dang Spud you are on a run! The gatling camel is awesome and it gave me good laugh. The new CC is quite good! I like the design of the figure and that helmet! Good job!
-
Amazing custom man!!
-
Love the whiplash figures and the camel with the gatling gun is great.
Ron

I will tell you one thing Devin. I haven't seen the range of poses the way I have seen yours pictured. I never thought a 3 and 3/4 could pose that well.
-

which figures in particular?
And might I ask you this, Why on earth would anyone want a "static" toy that can't be posed!? This is the issue that drove me to customizing...
-
Well for one those atat drivers of which I have one. And you must remember I can but marvel at the superarty prowess you possess.
I for one am not argueing with figures that pose. I think that question would perhaps be best posed to those who actually make the figures.
-
Spuda,
This is an excellent thread, I love all of these weird and wonderful creations and blasts from the past.
Cannon Camel is such an odd yet original idea, and I love the latest set of images too...
-
thanks HB, and everyone else that's commented in this little used niche of the site...
Here lately I've been straying away from star wars based customs. The new POC line of joe figures, and of course iron man, have got my focus onto a joe and marvel universe... eventually I'd hope to write a little back-story arc that intertwines the story lines of the joe-verse with that of other great movies and concepts put in our "modern" earth time. Including marvel story lines, a few DC comics heros I like, and whatnot.
anywho... hopefully soon I'll be whipping up some mandalorian customs for my star wars thread (got some new joes for fodder specifically with mandos in mind the other day).
but before I do that I have another transformer/cobra crossover that I'll be working on. The "S.O.A.R.-B.A.T." "Stealth Operating Aerial Recon Battle Android Trooper"
-
S.O.A.R. B.A.T.
Stealth Operating Aerial Recon Battle Android Trooper
The SOAR BAT is a reimagined incarnation of the sky-bat. Instead of just being a standard BAT outfitted with a jet-pack the Soar Bat is a fully functioning UAV. The SOAR BAT has two modes, UAV and Ground Trooper. The BAT utilizes stolen alien "cybertronian" technology to allow it to litterally transform from one mode to the other.
In UAV mode the Soar Bat can fly into enemy lines undetected (via stealth technology) and record vital recon data and return unnoticed....
or it can transform into a devastating trooper mode and wreak havoc on the enemy.
The SOAR BAT is outfitted with two mini-guns beneath each of it's wings, when transformed these mounts become shoulder mounted, OR can be moved to the arms for more range of fire. The BAT can also use a variety of standard weoponry as well.

this custom is basically a repaint of the transformer "sunbolt" with the adition of a couple cast resin war machine mini-guns and a potf sandtrooper rifle.
-
i love it ;D especially the backstory and the mini guns O0
-
I love Transformers! I just bought the Republic Gunship Transformer and I already have the AT-TE. I think the only other one I want is the Slave 1/Boba Fett.
-

the star wars transformers would have been cool if their mech modes wern't mechanized versions of the star wars characters, but instead were actual cross-overs of the original transformer characters in a star-wars mode.
for example optimus prime as the turbo-tank, bumble-bee as a jedi starfighter, starscream as a tie-fighter, megatron as the sith infiltrator, and unicron as the death star.... just my opinion.
-
You're right! Anyways, I just went through the whole thread and man!!!! I love this thread. I think our tastes are very similar. I love the Ironman and Joe customs. That female cobra chick is so HOT! I love the Tron Cobra Commander. Dont you think those Tron guys kind of look like Republic Commandos or even Halo guys, if you painted their visors gold. I just bought a 6 inch Hulk in gladiator gear, but he doesn't have his sword. I was wondering if you have any spare 6 inch figure weapons?

I don't mess with anything in any scale other than 1:18th. So I don't have anything that big, nor could I give you any ideas for anything that might work.
-
Great that looks soo cool!
nice work man! ;D
-
the heavy battle android trooper was developed by Cobra scientists as a more durable version of CC's favorite mechanized troopers. Able to withstand heavier firepower the heavy BAT can forge farther into a battle and last longer than standard bats. They have an increased amount of armor protecting a larger, more robust mechanical system with a larger power-core. T
Thrown into battle alongside normal BAT's the heavy bat is a formidable enemy for the joes... despite this however the joes who have encountered them have nicknamed them "FAT-BATS" because of their heftier apearance...

The FAT BAT still retains the modular weapon system we come to expect in a bat. I used the whip mounts from the IM2 drone and modified them to have BAT arm attachments on them. These are also modified to fit onto an ROC viper's backpack on the back of the fat-bat. This particular figure only has the claw and flamethrower attachment plus the two chain-saw attachments that came on the IM2 drone.

Good job SF! That turned out nicely.

now we know where the pies have gone ;D

A buddy of mine I work with had his guide book for fallout 3 new vegas at work today and let me browse through it... and although I've never played the game, the character on the cover cought my eye:
so when I got home this morning I couldn't stop pondering over that get-up and was pictureing all the parts that could be used for it... so before I could relax and go to sleep I had to make it.
here is my take on a fallout 3 inspired wasteland survivor:
what do you guys think?
-
I think it looks awesome! That cover art is very inspiring and you have done a good job recreating it. I know you did this kinda quick but I would love to see you do some grey drybrushing on the upper parts to wear them a bit.
-
That is very close to the image on that cover, Devin. The colors for him look good, as do the accessories. Great job again!
-
they look very close to the Armageddon troopers of the Imperial Guard in WarHammer 40K
-
Agree with ya on that, Jay, that's what I thought of first when I saw the cover art the other day.
The second thing I thought of was - "Wonder who is going to get a custom of it on the forum first?" ;D
-
Looks like a great rendition to me, Devin. Man, I envy your customising time and or passion.
-
Looks like a great rendition to me, Devin. Man, I envy your customising time and or passion.
this took me all of two hours to throw together.... of course it all stemmed from my co-worker showing me his gaming guide for the game and the images in it and I had been thinking about what parts I had to use all night. It took me longer to find the parts in my fodder bin than it did to throw them together.
btw the parts list is as follows:
Head: POC dusty (you can't see it under the helmet)
Helmet: POC beachhead
Torso: POC firefly
Legs: POC zartan
Trench-coat: ROC Paris Snake Eyes
backpack: zero's assassin droid (modified slightly
left arm: Jango fett
right arm: random joe fodder
left arm "pip-boy" computer interface: leg detail from POC beachhead.
I've actually been told that this is not 100% game accurate... and I know that. Like I said I was just trying to interpret the cover art in my own way with the parts that I had available. In the game the character is wearing a hoodless western style duster and blue-jeans over his boots... I tried to give it a little more depth with the added details of knee-pads and boots.
also there is some tan dry-brushing on the upper part of the coat and the figure but for the most part I wanted it to remain black. It's hard to realy see much of the details in the pictures. I'll try to get some better ones eventually, for some reason my camera's macro mode hasn't been picking up the details as well as it used to...
-
NICE AND TASTY !!!
-
I think: this custom is just GORGEOUS :)
-
I'm playing the game now and you have done a great job making the front cover figure well done indeed.
Ron
-
Spuda, that is very good. Whoever was nitpicking saying "it's not totally accurate" needs to be slapped. That is one of the best customs I've seen.
-
these are really nice, the color change on the jacket and the knees is awesome. :)

Stark Weapons Assisted Trooper
(TL/DR version: stark gives the mark 2 to the NYPD to test against increasing meta-human, or mutant, criminals)
Tony Stark's coming out as Iron Man was a slap in the face to the countrie's established crime fighters, not only the military. With "super-human" heros came an escalation of super-human criminals. Increasing disparity in the new mutant or "meta-human" population was causing more and more problems for localized police forces.
New York city especially realized this problem. with "district-x" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_X (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_X)), a ghetto comprised of mutant human inhabitants, police forces had to adapt.
A specially trained unit of policemen were trained by the NYPD to combat criminals that might have super-human abilities, but despite their training there was little they could do against mutants who greatly outpowered them.
After the military's aquisition of the War Machine armor pressure was put onto Stark to release his technology into the hands of the civilian police force. Reluctantly, Stark agreed to allow the NYPD to test several modified "mark 2" style armors for police duty.
These modified armors were called "iron s.w.a.t." These armors are significantly less powerfull than Mr. Stark's Iron Man armors, however the S.W.A.T. armor's ability to increase the wearer's durability, stamina and strength gives the NYPD officer an increadible advantage over normal human beings and puts them at par with most meta-humans...
Because the armor was built with a much weaker arc reactor power source there is no flight capabilities, this also means that the classic iron man "repulsor blast" feature is absent. Despite the increased strength the wearer is still vulnerable and thus is equiped with a tactical shotgun, a hand-gun, a batton and a shield (the shield is as much for the wearer's protection as is to protect the suit, they are after all very expensive).

I can't take all the credit for this idea, I was first introduced to the concept through this piece of artwork on deviant-art: (http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2010/319/1/1/nypd___iron_guard___armor_by_ranchoth-d32w920.png) which was actually an entry in a contest by another member which entailed someone "skining" their blank line-art.... and apparently the idea of a police force specifically trained to fight super heros and mutants is strait out of marvel comics actual storylines...
so... I know that was alot of reading, and I'm sorry, but I thought the backstory was actually interesting enough to deserve a good write up, and of course I had to give credit where credit was due. hopefully you guys like this.
-
Incredible man!
-
Very thoughtful creation like the blue and yellow colors. I thought I had read something like this somewhere too oh well coolness at its best!!
-
Wow, awesome!! I keep looking at IM figs and thinking... ;D
-
nice work on da coppa ;)
-
Very cool, even if it was someone elses idea. It looks great and you have put your own spin on it for the NYPD. The shield looks like home base, haha, what did you use? Like Doc I have enjoyed what you have done with the IM figures and bought 4 when they got marked down to $5.

the shield and batton are both scratch built. The sheild itself was made out of a small piece of quarter inch styrene plastic. I just cut it to shape with the exacto knife. I wanted it to have a more "shield" like appearance than a standard swat shield which I almost used...
-
How easy are the IM figs o work with, as far as customizing goes? I'm considering using some as armor for my own take on the "clone-troopers" in my nanowrimo novel - current front-runners are the Hypervelocity and Advanced suits. I'm also tempted to bash the two War Machine variants together, since I like the smaller minigun and missile pod of one and the more fully-armored limbs of the other.

lots and lots of boil and popping. although lately (and this is not recomended as it's dangerous and only works on elbows and knees) I've been using a lighter held a few inches away from the joint I'm trying to pop and heating it slightly over the flame (making sure not to melt it) and then quickly popping the joint apart... boil and pop is less likely to damage the figure though.
MOST of the iron man figure's chests are made of the same rubbery plastic that the arms, legs and head are made of. However the lower torso is hard plastic with a clamshell design.
The iron man figure's are great to customize if your leaving the main torso, the upper arms, and the thighs on the figure and only customizing the head, lower legs, and lower arms... otherwise they are very frustrating.
if you have any questions feel free to ask me and I'll help the best I can.
-
Had a bid in on an exclusive fig that was AWESOME! Then I saw it was a 7" fig, not a 3-3/4" so when I got outbid, I didn't fight for it. It was ... Star Forge, I think? Concept series. Really neat fig and I'd love to get one in the smaller scale to work with SW figs.
If you happen to take one apart, I'd love to see some disassembled pics, so I'll know what I'm going to be dealing with.

That Iron SWAT is pretty slick, a very cool concept. However, I LOVE that Casual Day Duke! That's awesome!

when the big guns don't cut it and the battle calls for even more ludicrously oversized firepower....
Rhodes goes for the "War Monger"...
A culmination of information from government siezed project notes on Obedia Stain's Iron Monger suit and information gained from converting the mark two suit into the War Machine armor a specialized government agency was able to build an even more powerful suit that held much more fire-power...

Thanks. Those launchers are modified parts from the "sea drone" or the navy drone from the iron man 3 pack with IM, the sea drone, and whiplash.

How in the world did I miss this one? That is a piece of work, Spud! What a menacing site that would be in a dark alley.
-
Nice mix of the genre there, and it looks very sleek! Great design, Devin.

as you know in my 'verse Tony's revelation that he is iron man causes a stir just like in the movies, however unlike the movies Tony builds stark enterprises as the main proprieter of "Iron Man" technologies and begins selling his tech out to government and private contractors after the War Machine armor's creation.
After War Machine was created Tony swore to make sure that people like Hammer wouldn't be able to mess with his technology. Tony signed a defense contract to oversee future developements for the WM project as well as other projects for other contractors...
one of these was his "SWAT" armor developed for the NYPD.
Another was an answer to NASA's old and outdated space suit design. Tony's Iron Man armor acted as the perfect platform to create a new exo-suit for american astronauts. The much lighter, more durable, and much more menuverable IM armor created a far superior space-suit.
Nasa had a few specific features they wanted incorporated (all of which, pluss some, Tony installed):
-Full environmental control and life support
-Armored protection from impact with space debri
-light weight, modular design for easy transport aboard the shuttle
-redundant systems to protect the astronaut from failures
-extreme menuverability in zero G
-the ability to withstand re-entry in a severe "abandon ship" senario
Tony answered this with a highly modified version of his modular armor. Installing an external main thrust pack to give the wearer control in zero G as well as in atmosphere, this was supplimented by the modular armor's arc-reactors working dually as attitude thrusters.
inadvertently Tony also cornered the market on the sport of extreme space diving, where the wearer of this suit leaped from an orbiting platform to re-enter the earth's atmosphere in free-fall....

Blast effects are from an IM figure.

luvvly jubbly !!

Sweet. Great back story too.

It is indeed, doc, why does it not surprise me that Devin has Incorporated it into an awesome custom less than a week into his possession of it? I love the back story. I have to wonder what Devin's hall of armor is looking like about now?

Thanks again for that great bag of goodies. I was able to clean this piece up realy well by sanding off the badly cast peg and a few of the bubbles. made sure to coat it in several base layers of paint to fill in the rest of the small voids and viola, fixed! I also solved the peg problem by sanding it down flat and drilling into the piece to insert a plastic replacement peg of the same diameter.
I need to get around to actually making a decent hall of armor diorama... Just havn't put forth the effort into it...

Just a good 'ol american red-neck "Knox" grew up and lived around Kentucky's Fort Knox. A gear-head and all around tinkerer he became a mechanic working on restoring old war-machines for the area's museums....
Then it happened. The event that changed the world. Them...
Fort Knox, being one of the most valuable forts in America was on high alert and pulled all available personnel into action, even drafting some civilians for extra help. As the undead surrounded the area it seemed like all hope was lost....
Seeing this inevitability coming Knox used his mechanical prowess to build his last ditch effort at survival. Taking his beloved pick-up truck and fusing it with a tank's tread assembly he made a half-tracks that he figured could take him to safety...
As chaos enthralled the base he took what weapons, ammunition and supplies he could and made his escape.... he drove his creation into the wilderness, making his home in the woods that he grew up hunting in. Figuring that the zombie hoards would be thickest where the human populations were greatest he made his survival by living off the land, only venturing into small towns in extreme circumstances to obtain fuel for his ride.....

That looks great now all it needs is a good paint job of blood and guts around it.

my thoughts exactly! The next chance I get i'm going to add some massive weathering to the vehicle.... scratches and dents, bullet holes, muddy tires/tracks and lots of blood and guts on the front grill.
-
That is really awesome Spud. No doubt it will be better all banged up with some gore to fit your verse you have described. That truck is a great base vehicle, I love it, doesn't hurt that I drive a Dodge 2500 diesel. ;)
-
Wow love the story Devin. I would love to see you write out a ful story or make this a web-comic as I love a good Zombie story.
I like the truck a good bit, where can I pick one up? Preferably in the Tacoma variety? On the front page.
-
Blood and guts and a life of danger! I love it. Very cool vehicle Devin, can't wait to see it muddy and bloody.
-
Love a lot of the work here.. the detail in that Whiplash figure is just too cool. Also love your Bat/Drones.. something I wanted to do, but never got around to it... I always had this futureistic Joeverse in my head, Transformer meets Joes meets Terminator kinda thing.. might have to get me some more Drones to use for this one day.
Too many things to mention(or remember) as I spent the last 30 mins or so looking through the thread. I clicked the front page link and it took me to the first post, I started reading and realized that it wasn't the custom on the front page, but I just kept going and then was like.. "what else did he make", lol...
Anyway, Love the CC with the Tron head. Awesome idea... consider that stolen.. and since the half track vehicle brought me here, might as well say AWESOME JOB! When the new GI Joe Zomvie Vipers come out, you gotta get a good half dozen and make a mini diorama with him defending his log house in the stick, lol.
Keep it up, can't wait to see more.
-
awesome job on the truck blood, dirt, dents is gonna put it over the top ;D

thanks everyone for the comments...
Tamer to answer a few of your questions. "Knox" was created to fit into a 'verse already established by another customizer and friend of mine from else where. He has his own website devoted to this universe which he calls the "ATR", short for "All that Remains"
All that remains.... is THEM and US....
http://allthatremains2010.webs.com/
The figure of "knox" was created for his custom contest (details through the link above) and you can read more about his version of the Apocalypse and how the remaining human factions are not only battling it out to survive, but battling it out for control of the world... If you like a good read, and good apocalyptic customs, give his site some time and read through the posts there.
The truck itself is actually payment back to him for some parts he sent me to complete a joe vehicle I have yet to finish customizing...
joerhyno:
this is my little hidden section of "where the heck do I put this custom?"! There is a little bit of everything in here.... I take the MISC. title seriously! Thanks for taking time to read through all of the posts and give me some feedback, it's nice to hear some feedback on some of my older stuff.
I realy enjoy the idea of mechanized soldiers and the BATs encompass that idea fully... so blending story lines and combining aspects of stories as well as toy lines that I love drives me to create things for more than just the star wars universe. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing them and gained some ideas for yourself! I'd love to see what you come up with.

I want to do the same thing with my truck but I don't think my wife would let me. Not because of the tank treads but because we don't have room in the garage.

Driving around the back roads of Kentucky I have actually seen a kit-bashed pick up truck body on the top of a set of tank treads.... For real, a real truck with a tank's guts... it's was awesome. It was just sitting out in someone's front yard as we drove past so I don't know if it was functional but the idea none-the less stuck in my mind!
-
Sweet Devin, I aim to give this a good read.
I have been meaning to get "The Walking Dead" on DVD on netflix as I love a good Zombie Apocalypse scenario.
I would love to add those tracks to my truck and know you can get it done. Then, all I would need is a big gun for the bed.
-
I love that half track and the figure that goes with it, Devin! The vehicle has a very Road Warrior feel to it and with some scuffs here and there, it would fit right in with your them and us universe.
I would love to see a pic of that real world truck with treads on the back roads like you described.

That universe isn't of my creation so don't give me any credit for the ideas there in that link I put up in the previous post... I just intertwined an original story for this guy into a pre-established idea of a zombie apocalypse.
as far as the truck I remember seeing, I saw it on vacation YEARS ago as a child and wasn't able to get any photos or anything of it... not even sure that it was in ky now that I think about it. It might have been down in GA somwhere.... I'm sure if you google "truck with tank tracks" you'll find some red-neck's photos of it! it's probably more common than you'd think.
