Title: Look what's for sale on Ebay
Post by: Clonehead on February 09, 2009, 07:43:44 AM
I seen this movie prop Death Star Trooper helmet on ebay, today. A little pricey especially if you include his shipping price. I thought that ebay had mandated a policy to regulate the shipping price that sellers list on their items.

 here is the auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180326425735)

If that Hoth Dio from SSC that weighs 80 lbs only cost $35 to ship via UPS Ground, there's no way this helmet costs more than double that.  What a joke.

Here's a seat mount for that gun from the Death Star playset that I was talking about. A little pricey at $8.99 with shipping. If it came with the gun, I might consider it.

That's sweet of you to think so, Tamer. I know that your the man who could find this stuff.

Here is an auction that may have those Death Star gun parts that we need. After seeing this price, I understand why Tamer asked if they could be casted. I have asked the seller if the parts come with the auction since no pic is shown.
death star parts (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270340184667&_trksid=p2759.l1259)there is a Make an Offer option to this auction.

I got my response back from this seller. It's the floor only. No gun or chair mount included.

Poking around a bit, I found this Death Star Gun (http://cgi.ebay.com/Star-Wars-Vintage-DEATH-STAR-SPACE-STATION-CANNON-PART_W0QQitemZ280318649978QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item280318649978&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)auction that ends in less than 7 days.

I also found thisGun Chair Mount (http://cgi.ebay.com/STAR-WARS-VINTAGE-DEATH-STAR-SPACE-STATION-PART-9_W0QQitemZ360130165960QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116)auction in an ebay store which I am going to buy now as it's only $6 shipped, and will get us one step closer to calling this project started.

That gun sure doesn't seem to be on the high end at the moment. I will watch this too Clint, and get it if it isn't highway robbery. Cool deal on the chair base you already have. I will get one of my vintage walkers broken down and ready to ship.

I can't believe that you would part with one of your walkers, even temporarily. ;D
We should be able to get the gun for a decent price. I asked the chair seller if he had one but he replied, "not right now"

just looked at it as a matter of fact. So far it isn't unreachable I think. I will get this if its close to reasonable thats for sure.

Here is another auction with a lot of 18 pcs that includes the gun but describes it as broken. Looking at the pic, it appears that one of the pointy gun barrels that I had intended to replace, anyway is broken off. We could think about this one as it comes with another chair mount, also.

looks like it has about 5 days, I doubt this one will go for very high based on the pic quality so this one is probably viable too if you don't mind the broken gun.

I think we can work with it. Part of the right gun is better than no gun at all.
UPDATE: I took a closer look at that pic. It appears that the gun is intact except for the barrel which is fine. I cant see its mouning  point but we could fab that if needed. I notice that there are two chair mounts in this auction. I wish it had two guns.

Here is a  Waxer figure auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/Star-Wars-Custom-212th-Clone-Trooper-Waxer-Clone-Wars_W0QQitemZ300299177645QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item300299177645&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50) from the same seller.

It sure didn't take long for someone to make a Waxer figure. I did like those marks though. His paint on the bomb squad seems kinda thick doesn't it Clint?

I didn't notice at first. I was looking at how oversized the head appears on that skinny CW body. I think the paintjob makes the head look bigger.
If I were still into making and selling on ebay, I would be doing the same thing, playing off the hype of the series.

If you were doing regular figure styles instead of the skinny ones, you would make a kiling.

It would take a few figures before a good number of people found out about it and then, the bidding war would be on.
I'm surprized I don't find more legacy style CW themed figures listed.

OK, I won't bid against you, then. Good luck, dude.
I thought I read on that other auction with the broken gun that the bottom tabs might be broken, also, if that is what the seller was referring to.
We had better shoot for this or another whole gun, partner.

I got the gun chair-mount in the mail, today. I had forgotten how big this thing was. I had the playset as a child but that was a long time ago. The gun that fits on top of this thing must be larger than I remember, also.
Some modification may be necessary If we are to use the mount with the chair and are to mount it in the center of the flat-bed walker's floor as we should. It's been a while since I had a walker in my hands. It might be wider than I remember. Some narrowing of the chair's outboard side and or armrest may be necessary. We will see.

Oh, I thought you were outbid. The bidders names are hidden from others, a choice that the seller made when making the auction. I take it that you made the 4th and 5th bid, then? I will be watching with anticipation.
Yeah, I am ready to get these componants together, myself.

Well Clint, I had what I thought was a decent high bid, but evidently it wasn't as I just checked and didn't win the cannon. Ofcourse I can't find another on listed now. If you see one, let me know and I will pounce on it. This is gonna ruin my morning. I wanted to get things boxed up and shipped to you as I am excited about this project. Now we gotta wait till we see another gun up for grabs. Sorry.

Another one? (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250376076632&ih=015&category=50270&_trksid=p4340.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%252BC%252BS%252BIA%26itu%3DUCI%252BUS-BWR%26otn%3D3%26ps%3D57) I asked the seller to send me a better picture of the cannon so we can be sure.

Looks like what we want, but is up in 5 days (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350175712445&category=50270&_trksid=p4340.m212&_trkparms=algo%3DSI%26its%3DI%252BC%252BS%252BIA%26itu%3DPSS%252BCRS%252BUCC%252BUCI%252BIT%252BUA%252BSI%252BUS-BWR%26otn%3D4%26ps%3D56)

a vintage playset that looks trashed, but the gun might be ok (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140306021449&category=50270&_trksid=p3907.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSI%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D15%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D54)

This one is a pretty nice playset (http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Star-Wars-Death-Star-w-figures-trash-monster_W0QQitemZ110361991809QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item110361991809&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)

Tamer!! Good job finding all of those auctions. Looks like everyone is ditching there vintage SW stuff. That will keep prices lower for us.
I seen what that one you were bidding on got up to, last night. Ouch! That's a little high IMO. Sometimes a single needed part will go for more than a lot containing the same part. That just shows how narrow some peoples views are.
Remember, there is still this one auction, here (http://cgi.ebay.com/18-Vintage-Death-Star-Parts-Fodder_W0QQitemZ270353912840QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item270353912840&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50) where the seller says that the tabs in the swivel part of the gun are broke. I am assuming this means the up and down action of the gun and that worries me a bit. Otherwise, that auction would be fine. I am curious about the round protrusion sticking up from the floor that the chair mount sits and spins on. It could be fabricated easily enough but it might be nice to have that floor just to salvage that part to intigrate into our walker's flat-bed gundeck. That being said, let's look at your list.

The red auction will work as it's gun barrel is broken where I was to fab a different barrel, anyway plus it comes with the floor and another chair mount. It's not a complete set so It might go for a decent price. I would think that this auction would be our third one of interest depending on If you want me to have that floor.

The purple auction would work as the gun barrel is broken in the same place but it doesnt come with the floor.

The yellow auction would work as it has a complete gun, floor , and another chair mount. this one is pretty enough that it will go for a high price.

The orange auction has the parts that we need, gun, floor, and another chair, but is an incomplete set, so it might go for cheaper. This is the one I want you to concentrate on.

The blue one is far too pretty to mess with and will go for higher than the rest of them. It does have all of the parts we need.

Im thinking that you should concentrate on the orange one and the purple one with red coming in third.  They will go for the cheapest and If you get the purple, we can scratchbuild a peg for that chair mount to snap into and spin upon. If you get the orange, or want to splurge a bit more on the red,we won't have to worry about it.

We will get that gun, buddy.

Ok, I will focus on that orange auction and follow the others from there to see if we can get what we need.

Those customs are pretty nice if you like the skinny figs. The Gree look very realistic and that Neyo comes with some neat accesories too. I have to admit though that I am very partial to your "realistic style" Clones rather than these anime versions.

Great Ebay deal on a Miniatures Walker (http://cgi.ebay.com/Star-Wars-AT-AT-Imperial-Walker-Colossal-Pack-NIB_W0QQitemZ110360672664QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item110360672664&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)
Wow! that's about $12 cheaper than I got mine for.
I'm surprised that no one has hopped on this one yet.
he must have got a bulk rate on a case of em, or something.
You still keep tabs on the 3 3/4 walkers, I would imagine?

I am not sure but he has sold 5 0r 7 of em and has the same number left. This is a good lesson in waiting a bit after something comes out to find it.

Oh, Shawn and I are looking for a vintage Death Star gun for a hair brained project and the color coded links were a way that he and I could converse easier about which ebay auctions we were interested in, all of which, focused around the same set of items.

That red one didn't go for too high. I wonder what his shipping fee was.

I just read in the orange auction that the gun does not stay up as in the up and down pivot point is broke.
It's possibly fixable but makes it no better than  this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/18-Vintage-Death-Star-Parts-Fodder_W0QQitemZ270353912840QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item270353912840&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)
which ends in 17 hrs. If that one doesnt get any bids, that would be $20 shipped with some extra fodder to sell off.

You can hold out for a complete working gun, if you want to. The pivot point problem seems pretty common.

Good point, if it doesn't get any bids I will pounce on it today Clint. You think you can fix the pivot issue? I guess if nothing else you could make it permanent in the up position, but it would be nice to pivot it up and down.

I also haven't even seen a playset where the gun was pivoted up. It seems that finding one that works might be paramount to insanity.

The shipping price was 22 dollars so it went for about 50 dollars. The gun in it is sloping down too. I guess I could have asked him if it would pivot up. I will go take a look to see if there are any working guns with good pivot points, but I am guessing those are one in a million.

Well Clint I got involved with a situation and didn't get that cheap auction for the gun. I am so ticked right now I can't even think straight. The one thing I wanted to do this afternoon and I got sidetracked. I will try to make sure to get the other one tomorrow.

Update: I at least have a bid in on it now. We will see how it goes

I was gonna bid on that one today and just lost track of the time, by the time I remembered it was 2 minutes too late, which made it even worse. Oh well, we will get a gun. That I can promise you.

Shawn, I can remember those days when I was hitting ebay real hard missing an auction that I really wanted.  But remember one thing that you never will know how much the winner would have went to get it, so you may not have one it anyways.  As always if you take your time one will come around in due time.

I wasl thinking the same thing about the pivot action on these guns. Every one that we have seen is pointed down so I makes since to believe that they are all broke in this way. Yeah, buddy, I'm sure that I could figure something out to make it work right.
A little engineering is all it will take.
don't worry about missing that one auction, buddy. Our gun will come. I can bid on this stuff if you want me to but I figured that you wanted to do that. I'm back to work again, so I won't be able to check on it during the day.
I am working part of the fabrication out in my head, though. The longer I have to think about it, The less problems will present theirselves when the time comes.
Title: Re: Look what's for sale on Ebay

I don't think we can realistically find a cannon that is working for a decent price. I sent two messages today to folks who had entire loose playsets for sale and both said the pivot action on the guns was broke.

I think we can play it like this Clint. If you are online and find the price that is decent jump on it and don't worry about me and if I see one I will try to get it too. We can just use this thread to keep ourselves updated. I will take care of your ebay purchase for this pronto.

I seen that the bidder placed two bids on that auction, Shawn. There's no telling how much he put on it that second time. Bidders do that to discourage other bidders when their first bid isn't enough and they get that outbid message instantly. I do that also when I am bidding on something.

I'm sure that you seen this  auction  (http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Death-Star-Playset-for-Star-Wars-Action-Figures_W0QQitemZ140306021449QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item140306021449&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)
It's already $13 more expensive including shipping.

Roger that on bidding on what I see. I should have placed a bid or two on that cheap one.

well that auction is over 50 dollars already including shipping so I am gonna hold off. There are a few other playsets that are still up for grabs that will hopefully not go for as much. I also put out a couple of feelers to ebay vintage stores for possible cannons today too. We will see if that goes anywhere. I just can't see spending fifty dollars or more for that cannon.

This guy had a lot of customs that were ending today. He seems to have some decent kitbashing and painting skills.
custom fig (http://cgi.ebay.com/STARWARS-CUSTOM-MANDALORIAN_W0QQitemZ180336012203QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item180336012203&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)
It seems to me that there are a bigger number of customs on than there has been in the past. The sellers haven't been listing them to run long enough, though. I would list mine to run at least a week if not 10 days. There is a better chance of more people finding them, that way.

Getting a feel for those last second bidders arn't you. I will look again, tonight but I haven't seen any affordable auctions, this week.

I am getting closer to cranking up some interest in my store, again. I actually updated the store's custom pages, today, and caught myself cleaning the unused pictures out of my photo manager. I will start listing again, soon.

I found this very large lot of clones in this  auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/STAR-WARS-CLONE-LOT-191-LOOSE-FIGURES_W0QQitemZ180337310784QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item180337310784&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50) today.
I would have custom clone fodder for life if I were to win this one.

See how much this custom Waxer and Boil  auction  (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140306876519&indexURL=5&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting) is up to. Man, they really like them, don't they.

I may have to do that ATTE skinny clone up to be a waxer or a boil and put him on to see what happens.

Wow, that is some custom auction. Clint, you should be making some money. You could make em look twice that good.

That Clone Lot is sure something too. Hope you win it. You will be set for Clone fodder for life!

On the death star cannon note, that one auction is up to 40 smackers already. I might still make a play for it in the final minutes. I am tired of waiting. I guess with ebay though, one needs to be more patient than that.
Title: Re: Look what's for sale on Ebay
Post by: Clonehead on March 16, 2009, 05:01:08 PM
Yep, I looked for death star parts today and didn't see any winners out there. I did notice that a majority of the individual loose parts that were listed recentally sold. Lots of people parting out death stars out there.
Be patient, buddy. Our gun will come.

Seeing that CW custom auction going for so much is getting me excited to try an ebay clone auction again. I am kicking myself that I didn't pick up some of the special skinny clones to at least mold the heads and helmets of. I have been asked at least twice if I had any resin CW heads and helmets since the tv series started. I wouldn't mind trying to find a couple of CW Cody figs just to try to emulate this same auction.

I do plan on making  Legacy CW cody, waxer, and boil figs one of these days.

I did throw a bid on that mega clone lot but was too low. It's too early to bid on and I bet it goes for a bunch o money.
Title: Re: Look what's for sale on Ebay
Post by: Tamer on March 16, 2009, 05:27:44 PM
It was that CW Cody fig that got me out of one of each Hasbro fig. Seeing that ten dollar a fig price on him with that skinny body did me in. I put him back on the pegs and decided I was done with most of Hasbro from then on. I just don't like the skinny figs. If there is money to be made like this auction is going for, you should go for it Clint. If you want, I can start looking for CW troopers for you no problem.

Our gun will come. that one auction I was looking for was up past 80 bucks. Daggone I am still beating my head over a few of those from last week. Now I know, I hate ebay when I really want something. With both of us lookng we will find one reasonable. I keep hoping an ebay seller will just list than gun for a reasonable amount so I can pounce. If you see one decent and complete Clint just go for it as I will be good for it asap.  My internet speed is sometimes too slow for me to search long as I get bored waiting for the pages to load up.
Title: Re: Look what's for sale on Ebay
Post by: Clonehead on March 16, 2009, 05:48:44 PM
I hear you on that slow connection speed. That would frustrate me.
It's not just the money that  a good custom clone would generate but the traffic which leads to more sales, of course. And selling off a bunch of the "in the way "stuff in my basement couldnt hurt, also.
It seems that those skinny clones are what's hot now.
I will take baby steps to start selling on ebay again. I will have time enough to lose my head in it later.

Are figures really $10 where you are? That would keep me from buying also. I told the wifey to look for a skinny cody or two. A skinny rex and a fox would be nice, also. As if I dont have enough clones around here to keep me busy. Mostly the removable helmet variety of skinny clones are what I need.

I thought that this clone  sniper (http://cgi.ebay.com/STAR-WARS-CLONE-WARS-CUSTOM-CLONE-SNIPER_W0QQitemZ220379717872QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item220379717872&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A7|294%3A50) looked interesting.

I'll bet that this custom CW figure  (http://cgi.ebay.com/Custom-Star-Wars-Clone-Wars-COMMANDER-REDY-trooper_W0QQitemZ160321963580QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item160321963580&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A8|294%3A50) goes for a good price.

So I take it that I don't need to buy the tipless one. You are the man, Shawn!
After all the trouble we had, to think that one seller would have two.

Well, I finally did it. After thinking about it for a while, I made a couple of new listings, tonight. These were the first listings that I have made in over a year.
I made a listing for a new resin parts set, here  (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350181488822)and listed it to start at 99 cents and go for 7 days.
No, I don't intend for you guys to bid on it. I just thought it might be interesting to watch it and see how it does.
Wish me luck.

Well now, a bunch of resin goodies! I need to get off my duff and start doing the same thing. You need to start a thread about the pros and cons of creating a store or just selling a few items and how to get started and what all is involved in selling.

Not a bad Idea, Shawn. There are a lot of bases to cover there and I'm just starting to remember part of them.
Let me refamiliarize myself with the bastard son of the internet, a bit, and I will do just that.

I just checked and that auction has been looked at 84 times by 24 different PCs and it's still 6 1/2 days out. I believe that I can build some more traffic and hype so I put together another resin set auction and listed it, today.

Uhh, I thought you were an ebay addict, Alex.
The ones that are 99 cents are the ones that I have listed at online auction for 7 days and go to the highest bidder. They don't have any bids, yet. The $9.99 ones are listed in my store and that is the buy it now price.
I guess that I may have to make a tutorial for buying as well as selling on ebay.
Cool Dead Clint. I have no doubt a custom store, especially cast parts are gonna be gobbled up! I know one thing, cast a few of those atat parts I am gonna send you and you could be doing more business!
You know, Tamer, my store has been there for years now. Most of those parts sets were already there and I have sold a ton of em in the last 2-3 years. I have been just letting my inventory ride for the last year and a half and haven't listed anything new until this weekend. If you list something in an online auction, it gets 100 times more exposure than something listed in your store. It is also more expensive to list things that way. the more interesting an item that you list for online auction, the better chance that they will click on a link in that auction that leads them to your store. I will explain all of this in my buying and selling on Ebay thread when I make it.
If I had molds to cast resin walkers, I think I could count you in as a regular customer. LOL

Me devote time to casting and customs..................I don't know. Sounds pretty boring to me.........NOT!!
Once again, the added traffic prevails as I sold a resin set today. That's two days in a row that I have sold something.
I have three live auctions going right now. Two are resin sets and one is a FU shadow stormie, my extra one.
resin set 1 has 5 watchers, set 2 has 4 watchers, and the stormie has 4 watchers.

I am nearly ready to start my thread about buying and selling on Ebay.

Some sellers offer free shipping in their auctions to try to encourage higher bids, Alex. Ebay likes this as they don't make any money off of the shipping price and some sellers will sell their items cheap but make up for it by charging a higher shipping price. They owe less of a final value fee to Ebay, that way.
It wouldn't cost too much to ship two loose clones worldwide so, I guess this seller wasn't worried about it.

By the way, Alex, I shipped a MOC Tattoine accessories set, the same size as a MOC 3 3/4 action figure to Germany, last week and was only charged $6.20. I had them research how much to send that same parcel to Australia and to Japan, and they quoted me the same price.

Somehow, I doubt that the winner of that auction is looking for an investment opportunity with their purchase, Alex. They are just looking for an unproduced figure from a great customizer. As long as the Clone Wars tv series is popular and Hasbro doesn't get around to making that figure, I have no doubt that this figure will hold it's value, at least on Ebay.
It's still a bit early in the auction and I'd say that the price will get higher before it's all said and done.

BECAUSE HE DID A LAST SECOND BID   :'( i actually found someone who i could beat to death  >:D   well with that gone im bididng on about 23 other figures all each  for max 3$ some jedis , some clones , 2 senators , and 3 droids

LOL. Oh yes, those last second bidders. I have been tickeff a million times by em. I remember loosing some vintage death star cannons that way. Then, the next week they showed up for ten bucks cheaper. Thing about ebay is you can always find it again and usually find it cheaper if you have patience. Course I am not patient so you know where that gets me. Ticked off.
Title: Re: Look what's for sale on Ebay
Post by: Clonehead on May 02, 2009, 05:53:58 AM
The only way to counter those last second bidders, is to make you last bid alot higher than the current shown bid is.
If your competing bidder is going for a last min bid and are going to be cheap about it, they might only have time to post 2-3 bids to try to beat you. It's a choice in between how much you want to spend and how much you want to beat that other bidder.  Bidding wars are fun to watch in the final min or two of some of my more popular auctions.
You just got to keep hitting that refresh button.

Just to show how slow the customs game on ebay is right now, Here are a couple of auctions that I found that have customs that look good enough that they should have some bids on em by now.

I see that these two auctions are finially getting bids. He has them ending at a strange time of day, though. I think that they would do better were they to end tonight.

Why, in the name of all that is holy, do people insist on using virtually unmodified Barrett sniper rifles in SW customs??  I mean...I have some ideas for custom blasters that use parts from a Barrett...but just parts.  And most especially NOT the MAGAZINE WELL!!  (sorry, pet peeve - and the Mk23 SOCOM pistols are almost as bad...)

Otherwise... guy's got some neat stuff up, for sure.  I ran across his listings earlier this week.  One of these days, maybe...

Which guy, Doc? You can throw up a link in here to an ebay auction.
I think that some guys buy military figures to scrounge some of the equipment like ammo pouches and such to throw onto their SW stuff and include guns like the ones you mention. I have even done it in the past, before. I did mod the gun, of course, but not past the point where it was recognizable. That was then, this is now.

BTW, those two auctions that I posted links to, last week ended with pitiful final bids. I am sure that the seller is poed.

a Mousdroid member pointed this one out. This seller is obviouslly a goofball but it is a decent marketing ploy for his other stuff. See how many looks this item has got.

A bit pricey for a lunchbox, though.

I really like his sniper squad - except for the aforementioned Barrett of course.  He's got some leftovers - bodies and guns - that I'm bidding on.  I found him while looking for loose Tredwell droids.  He's got one BIN for $6, but if I'm gonna do that, I'll go to the local WM and drop the extra $1.75 and get another Jawa w/ nice fiddlies to work with.  From time to time I just roam the SW fig category using "custom" as a keyword.  Good for inspiration...

I have seen this guys stuff before. Looks like he has some bids and a couple of his figures are doing alright, I'm glad to see. It's people like this that keep the star wars custom passion alive on ebay and I can do nothing but thank them for it because as I said before, the more competition that I have, the more people will notice and ultimately, the higher bids and more business that I get for the same stuff. The economy has been hard on the ebay seller community as people just dont want to spend their money like they used to.

That sniper squad would be fairly easy to put together with some head and accessory swaps but it does look interesting and the bidders are biting on it.

I see what you mean about the Barret. I think perhaps using the same helmet on both might have been better too. What is that an evo or jumptrooper and a mcquarrie stormy helmet? I am not so sure I like the hoods like that either, a mix of a plastic hood with a soft goods wrap. Still, I gotta agree I love the motif.

Looks to be an ATAT driver body with an evo trooper head and a commander Faie cloth tunic.

You could pull that one off, shawn. They do look good together, though. Kind of gives me an idea.............

I *think* one head is an EVO and one is a Jumptrooper.  That's the #2 nitpick - *I* would have used the same helmet on both.  But I have to say...that duo and last night's AOTC sniper idea of mine have given me yet another idea...

Oh, and I *am* bidding on his guns set and those bodies.  I just really like the Apartment Fett body, esp. for civvie attire projects, of which I need a few!

I thought you would find this auction interesting. This is an ended auction for a trio of clones of a body type that we haven't seem, as of yet. I could really use that helmet and swing down visor combo for a couple of skinny clone projects.
This auction originated in Malaysia. I am starting to wonder if this and some of the auctions with the multiples of clone figures available might be the result of a factory worker ferrying home products from the assembly line or something.
here  (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=170328917304) is a link to the auction.

There were at least 3 different auctions for this trio at the same time. I actually won one of them for less than the shipping cost. other two were too high for me. i will have to let you know when i get them. one for me, one for my son, and a third to put on display. the wife is sooo happy about that.

Not really sure how to post the link to the auctions. there are 2 buy it now auctions for entirely too much money. one is for a single figure and the other is for three figures, loose of course. In ebay store unlimited8899 under the star wars tab of course. shipped from.... malaysia. i have bought from here before and was happy with the items and price. but you ussually have to wait a bit for more of the items for bids to be updated. buy it now is always too expensive. i believe i got one auction under best offer and paid about half of the asking price. 2 weeks for them to arrive... 10 to 14 days, up to 20 if bigger order.

Thanks for the info, DRS! To post a link to an auction here, Copy the url at the top of your browser when it is pointed at the auction,in ebay.  Then, when you are posting here, click the icon that looks like the earth which is the control to insert a hyperlink. you will see this appear. [ url ]   followed by this [ /url ]

in between the two inner brackets,  ][, paste your copied url. After you submit your post, it should work. There is some html that you can write to alter the links appearance so that you don't see a bunch of text but I will explain that later.

I went ahead and bought one from the seller that DRS had mentioned for a bit cheaper than this. Wow, I'm going to get a new skinny clone!

Here is a mon calamari rebel pilot figure that the seller that DRS had mentioned has for a decent price.

Here is another one from a different seller. User ID Tunghori
This is one of the sellers that has the listings of 5 of one type of figure like that ATAT driver auction that Shawn took advantage of. My theory of where these figures originate is seeming more and more true, to me. This auction even uses the same factory pre-release pic that Rebelscum posted 3 days ago.
This and other sellers have been listing these unreleased figures as custom figures, now.

The paint looks pretty factory fresh, to me.

Here is another one from the same seller in the Phillipines.

If these guys are smuggling skinny clones out of the factory, it's no wonder Hasbro has been kicking up their prices, lately. They have to cover the cost of employee theft. Does anyone really think that these have been released over there and not here? I didn't think so.

That damn pirated Ponds figure's current bid is more than three times what my custom Ponds is selling for, right now.
I am about half upset about this turn of events and how they affected a possible sure hit of an auction.
Now, when ever a person enters the words "clone commander ponds" into the ebay search engine, they get two results. His and mine.

Were my recent Habro question to be asked, that could put a monkey wrench in the works for him. I doubt it, though.
things are tough all over, you know. Most anyone will do anything in order to eat. And if you or I worked at a Hasbro factory..................I would be hard pressed to keep my hands off. I would be toting home any rejects that's for damn sure!!

According to my Singapore resource, These loose new clones and the ones like Tamer and Alex won, are rumored to actually be factory rejects.I guess that they don't look bad except for a flaw in the paintjob or two. Tamer's lot of atat drivers looked good to me but not pristine, paint-wise.  He says that  in China, they go for pretty cheap, if you know who to talk to.

He has no explanation for the MOC  pre-release auctions, though.
Title: Re: Look what's for sale on Ebay
Post by: Tamer on May 17, 2009, 05:24:58 AM
The lot I bought I did notice had a few small paint errors with the black lines that go along the bottom of the helmets. It was not too noticeable, but at the price I got em I could live with that! You would have to look real close and really know your figure to spot it. I haven't seen any listed lately, but I know the one lister listed a hundred or more. It makes me wonder if they are selling atat drivers like this are we gonna see him released in a saga legends wave later? I hadn't heard that before. Ofcourse they could be making another run of em for that big ole huge walker we hear rumors about from time to time.
Title: Re: Look what's for sale on Ebay
Post by: Clonehead on May 17, 2009, 05:49:07 AM
that's always true. I believe that some of the lots that we see are from hoarded factory rejects from years ago.
Just imagine, a whole garage full of ATAT driver factory rejects. I would be overwhelmed.

most of these figs are scheduled for release in package between the end of may and august. the phase 2 kashyyk clones were the order 66 clones packaged with Yoda. i haven't really seen all that is to be released, some they are keeping the lid on until closer to the release date, but it would make sense that there would be more clone commanders, especially from the skinny sets. the only ones i was sure of were a Gree and a Bly... but lots of troopers in new paints and a few with removable helmets. they even go so far as to tell you what is to be released and not release pics until right before or after the press release. oh the anticipation...

It tends to make one excitable, doesnt it? That release date sounds about right to me, also. I checked on that MOC ponds auction last night. It was up to $50. Can you believe that? Just to get one a month early or two.
BTW on the examples that I have seen, I think that they got the red on his armor too bright.

Hate to hear that Alex. The one thing I would caution you is to not get too hasty. Think how long it took you to acquire what you have. We have all faced cutback issues, but this is one outlet we can all enjoy in moderation. Its not about the size of collection, but the quality and memories and nostalgia it brings the individual who has the goodies.

Holy crow - that's a noice ship!!  No worries, I already hit my motherlode today - 7 minirigs plus a nonexploding radar laser cannon.  3 of the ever-popular MLC-3 mini-tanks, an MTV-7, an INT-4 *WITH GUN!*, a Desert Skiff, and - tadaaaa!! - an Endor Ranger, missing a wingtip gun!

While looking for a replacement INT-4 gun, I've seen that particular minirig offered from $12-15 alone.  The Skiff and Ranger are in roughly the same range, with the MLC and MTV running a bit less.  I got the lot for $14.

One of the MLC-3's will hopefully be my contest entry.  You'll see...

As for the sail-skiff - I see played-with complete ones on ebay listing from $20-30 right now.  Heh - basically, I bought an INT-4 gun and got 7 vehicles thrown in for free!  I'm pretty pleased, I tell ya.

I have a booster if you guys want it.

i cut the top section's bolts so it can be taken off, but the rest of the booster is pretty fine.

and in decent condition.

But you have to pay shipping, and help me pimp the rest of my sell off, ;)

If I don;t nail this one on ebay, we may have to play Let's Make a Deal!

Do you have one of the mini-jets that I'm seeing in some of the auctions?  It *looks* like it could give you a start on a smaller V shuttlecraft...  It also looks like it would do nicely in a 'Station diorama here at the Outlands!  System Defense Craft, indeed!  (and I found an auction with 4 complete and 1 missing a couple of panels, as if it were in for maintenance...)
Title: Re: Look what's for sale on Ebay
Post by: narceron on May 24, 2009, 03:32:15 PM
I believe it is the drone from the night raven, but maybe you are talking about something else.

If you find a start for V shuttle, please let me know, :)

And as far as the booster, I was holding it for a guy(for over a year), but he decided he didn't want it, so if one of you guys want it, you can have it.  You just have to pay shipping, :)

Also, I'm selling a ton of stuff on EBay right now, at orders from the wife, so I can probably mail it out, fast, lol.

He's weak, Clint!  Grab it quick!!   ;D  I've got money on that auction on ebay, so if you want Narce's, Clint, jump on it.  Otherwise...I may own two! (ask me in 24 hrs...)

Narce, look at these shuttles and see if they will work for you...  I'm interested in them, but if you think you can make one work, we can cut a deal for sure.

SCORE!!!  That monster shuttle playset is MINE!!!  Because, you see, according to the extra pics she sent me, that lid flips up into a multi-level play-/display-area (which Narce has verified).  I'm paying more in shipping than I paid for the ships.   ;)  NOW I'm wondering if I can customize/rebuild that beyotch into a Ghtroc 720-series freighter!!

After a quick study of Frank Bonura's deckplans page (http://deckplans.00sf.com/Ghtroc/720/Ghtroc_720.html), I'm pretty sure the answer is no.  Or, more accurately, "Not fast, cheap, nor easily."  That's ok - the toy will no doubt help churn my imagination as I play with it.  I dream of a proper action-fig-scale Ghtroc, but it would easily outsize the BMF.  I'll settle for a playable BMF-sized one.

Bid is in on the bundle of small shuttles, too.

And - MAN!!!  I found control centers for the crawler piece of this playset.  I could make a Star Destroyer "bridge-pit" out of those!  Or Fixer's engineering room!  Lotta dio potential in them!  sweeeeet!!!

Caught a loose Hondo Karr from the Joker Squad pack for 99 CENTS!!  Missed his mate Vax Potorr - no bids at all on him.  Headache has messed up my day.  Sgt. Harkas went for $1.25 because I forgot to up my placeholder bid.  Jes Gistang - the chick stormie - barely cleared $5.  Less than $10 for the figs I wanted from a $40 exclusive.  That works out to $30 for that Darth Squidhead!!  (I asked the seller if s/he were going to relist Vax, as I'm interested.  I've already bought a couple of figs from s/him, maybe s/he will toss the extra guy in and add it into shipping?  We'll see...  I didn't flat out ASK that, so I'm dodging ebay's TOS violation.  ;D )

If I can do this for all 4 Stormies, I can give that box-set a pass!

Or I could get the box-set and swap Darth out to Narce for that Joe shuttle booster, even-steven.....   >:D   fett

Yeah, this is what we are up to this week.  Our first order was to get all the EBay stuff into one room, mostly in package stuff, it'll be sold to establish a bit of a slush fund.

It will also clear up a mad amount of space, which we can use to house our "trade store."  Basically, at that point, I am going to go, tub by tub, and downsize by 50 percent, sending the reduced stuff to the trade list where I can hopefully trade it for stuff I need for projects.

But I'm sure I don't have to tell  you, it will be one slow process, for a while, :)

I'm very glad I didn't buy this set for $40 because I scored Lord Maleval for about $10, Jes was about the same, Sgt. Harkas was $6, and Anson Trask was about $4 so I got all the figure I wanted from this set and it only cost me about $30. This way no figures I didn't need and no box to throw away!

Yeah, those 99-cent auctions were too good to not bid on.  Didn't realize I'd missed a 99-cent set, tho!  Been longer than I'd thought since I checked your listings.  Shame on me!   fett

Hey doc, why does it say research under your name?

99 cent auctions, I'm still lamenting that 2 dollar wheelbike, :(

Actually, I just want the wheel, so I've also been looking at junk lots, we'll see.

That set ended up going for a paultry $2.50, doc. It is leading onto a future sale of as of yet, unmolded parts, though. Perhaps I will get them molds together, tomorrow.

"Research" is what I got for passing something like 250 posts.

BTW, guys, that Joe shuttle/booster - for those who don;t know - dwarfs a 5-gallon bucket.  Too bad the foot-pegs are too big for SW fig feets!!

Dig around and see if you have the proper diameter wire for a foot peg, Doc. It might go quickly to just cut em off, drill some holes, and glue in some wire lengths. Dont forget that touchup paint.

Anyone see that custom carded Vlix auction that ended last night? (sorry, no bookmark)

It ended up going for around $70...it looked ok but had a very vague description. Like, it was not clear whether it was a "real Vlix" on a custom card or a custom Vlix on a custom card. I am leaning towards the latter.

Yes, I actually picked up a second one last week just in case I ever decide to break these out of the box. I have ONLY seen these at TRU, but they do seem to get re-stocked pretty consistently from week to week. (They had another new on on the shelf today)

I always have problems finding a box to ship a MOC figure in. Almost always, it has to end up being a cereal box. The wife wonders when she opens the cupboard why our cereal is in bags and not in it's boxes.

You should dig out your ravan and malak figures and list them. Seperately might be better. Unless you want to give em to me as an early Christmas present.

I sold a fair amount of SW toys MOC a few months ago, I'll probably post the rest of them up before Christmas, lol.

I like that naboo ship, but its just too big, lol, still 28 dollars shipped if you get lucky, might be a steal.

I'm considering ebaying all my moc stuff to make room for more loose stuff that I can customize, or at least display.

He altered his auction to raise the beginning price from $0.99 to $9.99 and then set a reserve of $25 on it.  I would have snagged it up for less than $20, but now that it's a minimum of $43 shipped, I'm out.  I saw he has several of these MISB at various prices, too.  Makes ya wonder a bit...

I've got one...even saw it on pegs when it originally came out.  Ended up getting it off ebay along with a vulture droid (old style) and crab droid in a single lot *many* months ago - beck before we moved, so that's been well over a year ago.

And wasnt there a really cheesy rubberized version released Legacy style?
I recall it having poor legs and not standing and posing well. and it came with a weapons locker/cardboard box of clone weapons.
I might still have 1 MOC somewhere.
Ooops. that was a crappy TriDroid.
That thing blows about as bad as the new BAD Queen Amidala with the brown dress and big purple head thingie. And the fig designers must be perverts because my son looked up her dress and sid she had no pants on, but at least she had on panties, even if they were sting panties.
I had one of these Spider Droids MOC with a burst card about a year ago. I thought it had a windup knob function on the bottom where the legs connect, and it walked or something.
My son was mad when I gave it to a friend who also likes/collects SW stuff here in town, back when I didnt open stuff. My son lost the missile and I wasnt impressed with it any more.
Now I almost wish I had kept it.

That's too bad about the tri droid as I haven't opened mine yet.

Wasn't there a scene where one of Cody's troopers hopeed up onto a crab droid's back and blasted it from the top with his rifle?

Somone got a serious bargain on the lot with 25 jedi, 25 clones and the gunship, ATTE and BARC speeder.
Even if they were all broken, I would have paid that much....... maybe.... FREE shipping gets me most every time......

free shipping on a lot like that, you can figure it would save you 20-30 bucks at least, right?

I used  to offer free shipping, but it did not go well for me.

I recently decided to switch from GIJOE to ROC, so I have been scouring the internet looking for deals on lots of clones and what not to get my forces started.

What I really need to do is find someone who wants to switch from SW to ROC or joes, :)

Also, kind of makes me insane, I gave pretty much all my clones to my pal segnett for his little boy, lol.

I noticed that this California seller had some auctions for new legacy figures that were in the 2 for 1 blockbuster value packaging that I had seen in a walmart before. He even had one with a Rum sleg in one of those packages.
Please tell me that we are going to see some value packs like these.
Oh, in his auctions, he claims never removed from packaging but BAD part and UPC are missing. Uh, ,,,Yeah.

Uh, ,,,Yeah.

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Build-a-Droid-Star-Wars-BD17-Princess-Leia-Loose_W0QQitemZ290386847296QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item439c67a640 (http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Build-a-Droid-Star-Wars-BD17-Princess-Leia-Loose_W0QQitemZ290386847296QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item439c67a640)

yeah, but saying "never removed form plastic insert" doesn't sound as cool.

Go for it. We like to think customizers deserve way more money than they actually get around here. If I was into CW I would go after it. Send that dude a message and tell him we would love to see more of this stuff (images) posted in our customs thread.

I see some links to my ARFs that have been on ebay and just wanted to let everyone know I have an ARF with removable helmet about 75% complete.  Just trying to decide if he has a Gree head or Denal head.   decisions, decisions.
Next up for me are the clones from "The Deserter" episode.

you do realize that it is believed that some of these sellers like  tunghori, who have loads of unreleased figures and released figures for sale that live in countries where there are Hasbro factories are actually selling figures stolen from the factory?

then by that logic...people are still buying them and only the retailers are missing out, lol.

I would buy a super cool fig on EBay, but buying rank and file that will later warm pegs makes me sad.

In my experience, these super high dollar auctions are sometimes won by friends of the seller.  They get the bids going and it seems funny that you won't find feedback.  I think sometimes its a set up to draw more people in . . . . .but then again I have been known to be quite cynical!!!!!  rd

i have seen this before its called schill bidding  some gets either his mates to bid to drive up the price or has two or three accounts and schill bids his own auctions ..its highly illegal on ebay.......and rife!

That makes me a bit skeptical. I don't understand how it could be up to that much. Is it solid gold under the paint??? Nice figure... but hardly very original. Bland paint scheme, and kitbashed part swapping. I'd love to know his secret. I can't see how that could be worth that much. People are crazy.

Gonna have to agree with AFE on this one. Don't get me wrong, I think it looks great, but $425?  I don't see how anyone in their right mind would bid something up that high, ofcourse it is ebay and sometimes it defies all logic.

If thats the case it might mean the customs market is starting to get good on ebay again.

That would be awesome AFE. I hope he at least messages you back. Is there anyway to see his previous auctions and see if they went this high? Maybe this is a Star Wars Celebrity making customs? Now I could understand that price if that was the case.

Not according to his Facebook page. His name is Chris (actual last name not given). Says he's been doing it sine 2005. So far I haven't heard from him.

I've checked the bid history a few times now. It looks quite odd. With a lot of the bidders upping their bids to astronomical levels without counter bids. It started at $10, then to about $40 then to $78 then to $100 on to $200. All of which looks like a legit competition. Then there are only 2 bidders. One bidder keeps upping his max bid and the second counters ever 5 or so bids with only 1 increment. The bidder raises his bid first by 2 $5 increments, then quickly by $10 increments. Could be a proxy is working with him and they've hooked a fish. Or it's 2 proxies and they're hoping that someone will come along and put a final bid on the item and win it for a large some of money. As for his current other items it's mostly loose mint figures all with bids. His next most expensive item is only at $30. In my experience it's very rare to have every single item someone is selling have bids on them, and for more than a tiny amount.

How is he doing this??? We must find out!

Well maybe he is just getting lucky and I wish him well. Still it is a great custom and definitely worth a good price, but I don't know that I have ever seen a three and three quarter custom go for this high.

Hmmmmmm What do you know. This looks very familiar. The style. The use of the softgoods kama and belt... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-Custom-MANDALORIAN-WARRIOR-w-REMOVABLE-HELMET-2-BLASTERS-/320872326655?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab57b25ff

and if you check the jet pack paint apps. They're the exact same style.

Well we aren't the customs police force, but I do feel some loyalty to all customizers regardless of the line and its up to us to not begrudge someone good ebay luck. However, that being said if something is happening that could hurt all customizers its communities like this and your blogs and your Facebook Pages to make everyone aware.

I did see he had a previous Jedi custom that went for over $200.
Sometimes a custom seller will get a following and two or three dedicated collectors of his work will bid against each other.
It's been many years but I used to have a custom figure auction going every week until the economy turned down.

I was thinking the same thing. Tunghori should still have some helmet less female mandos for sale fairly cheap.

Female Mandos in general usually do very well...
but this auction, no offense to the artist, it reaks of shill bidders.
Good clean work, but not $400+ work.
It's got to be two or more friends shilling the auction, with one on the hook, as AFE suggested.

Just got to be honest and then the people you deal with are usually honest. I'm good selling my figures for $30 or so a pop on eBay. Just means I get to make that many more figures before I make $425 or whatever. I see it as a win :D

All buyers on eBay have perfect feedback.  It's only Sellers (or buyers who also sell) who can have bad feedback.
