Hi everybody, I'm Elias and you may know me from my blog Customs for the Kid that I do with my Dad.
Dad showed me Luke Sprywalker's Kit Bash a Figure Contest and I decided it was time I submitted a custom action figure to the contest and join the Yards. For my submission, I entered a fan fiction custom action figure of a female Kel Dor Jedi that was from Luke's New Jedi Order. To make her, I used the hands of a CW Plo Koon, the head of a Legacy collection Plo Koon, and the body of a Vintage Hoth Princess Leia. If we were allowed to paint, I probably would have painted her clothing a light brown similar to the way the Vintage Luke Skywalker in Bespin fatigues was painted.

I'll try and post some more of my custom action figures later today.

The Infamous Frog Octopus
My first custom action figure was the infamous Frogoctopus. Frogoctopus was known to be seen in the Mos Eisley Cantina with her friend monkey sipping passion fruit juice. The two were known for adopting a different name each day when they introduced themselves to strangers, otherwise they were only known as Monkey and Frogoctopus. Monkey and Frogoctopus were former Jedi who had escaped Order 66. Her head was more squid like, but someone called her Frogoctopus and the name stuck.

-
Now I bet that gets a top speed. Welcome to the Shipyards Elias. You custom has now been featured on the front page.

Cool
-
Rock on!! I'm jealous of her speeder - those suckers just hit the market, didn't they? And I didn't know that breath-mask was removable!! Great - back to the store for the rest of those clearance Plo's for me!!
Where'd the head for that froctopus come from? I'm assuming the body is from the Gragra fig?
-
Excellent customs Elias welcome to the yards!
-
Dude, that is a great female Kel Dor Jedi. Now that's a custom I wish I owned.
-
Great stuff elias, nice to see you here finally :)
-

Cool deal, on the front page.

Elias here. Forgot my password so I'm just going to uses my Dad's account.
Lately Dad has been laboring away working on a speeder bike for the March 2011 Build Your Own Mini-Rig Contest so it was up to me to do the custom for the week over at our blog. Dad just finished his submission if you want to take a look.
http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=5123.300 (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=5123.300)
So while Dad was busy with that, I was keeping busy too with a kitbash custom that I made of a Weequay female that can now be found in my Chalmun's Cantina display at home. I made her from a Leesub Sirlin and the Vintage Wequay Skiff Guard that can be found hitting stores everywhere now. Hope you like her.

You have been making some great customs these last few weeks. It's really cool to see you working on customs so much.
-
Nice work on these new females! did you do some painting to make the skin tones match up on these? It looks like you did, very nice work young one.
-
wow, cool stuff, like them a lot!!
-
Great looking figures Elias! It would be awesome if you and Eli could have a customizing playdate! Not sure if he's ever done any custom making but I'm sure you guys could create some awesome new figures! When I was your age I collected tons of Star Wars toys, but my favorite things to create customs with were Legos! I developed a very "zen-like" (Jedi-like?) detachment to my creations as they would be dropped or stepped on by parents. I was always modifying and altering them after each incident where they were "broken". Helped me a lot with my art in school and always having a back-up plan when a piece would get damaged. Keep up the good work young Jedi! I foresee a path of creativity in your future!

Dad helped me paint the neck and shoulders on these figures so the paint stayed in the lines. I painted the lightsaber hilt by myself.

A play date would be fun. I play with Legos at my mom's house.

Great new figures Elias, on the front page. I agree with you by the way, the female aliens are definitely some of my favorite characters too. Keep on coming up with new ones please!

really amazing customs!!!

With the close of Clone Wars Season 3, "Wookiee Hunt" had me wanting to make a Trandoshan custom action figure. I dug around in the fodder box we have at home and I came up with all the parts that I would need to make a cool Trandoshan Jedi. I assembled all the pieces I had and finished the build, but I had a problem. All the pieces of the Trandoshan were in different shades of green and my custom action figure didn't exactly match. I called in a little support from Dad and he gave my Trandoshan one cool paint job that pulled it all together. Working as a team has really paid off lately.

This was a really fun project that Dad and I worked on together. I had a bunch of Rodian heads in our fodder box and had the idea to make a Rodian band and added a human female dancer to round out the mix. I did the kitbashing and Dad used some Apoxie Sculpt, a few fodder pieces and paint to differentiate them and make them stand out as individuals.

-
Very cool Elias. I like it. On the front page.
I also think it rocks that you are giving such a cool figure to Elias.
-
Thanks :)

This is my latest custom creation. Dad used this figure to teach me about how to use Apoxie Sculpt and how to weather clothing on an action figures. I painted the figure and Dad showed me how to apply the Apoxie Sculpt to Grievous' cape for the fire concept I had in mind. After I painted the cape and the fire, Dad showed me how to add water to black paint to create a wash to weather Grievous and his cape.

GEONOSIAN JEDI
This Geonosian Jedi is a quick custom action figure that I made that required very little paint work, and just a small amount of accessorizing to complete. I used the skirt of a Clone Wars Eeth Koth, the Geonosian drone action figure from the exclusive Target 2-pack, the Jedi Robe from a CW Shaak Ti action figure, and the hilts of a G.I. Joe Storm Shadow action figure. I only had to paint the jewel blue on the waist covering of the Geonosian. Dad carved the bottom of the lightsaber blades with an Exacto knife so they slid in and out of the hilts with ease.

Well done on the Geo Jedi.
-
Elias,
These are some very impressive customs you have here - you show great talent!
I would like to know if you would be happy for me to feature one of your designs in my webcomic, Tales from the Clone Wars?
The character I had in mind was your fantastic Trandoshan Jedi:
He'd be part of a Jedi strike team. If that's good with you, all I'd need is a name you want to give the character and I'll do the rest :)
Keep up the great work!

When I see how many cool customs you keep making and now your abilities to show off your work, I can see you are going to force me into an early retirement before I know it. You'll be doing your blog all by yourself in no time.

I couldn't agree more Brian! It is great seeing these youngsters skills evolve.

Well done Elias! Another great alien!

Here is a droid I made a while back and that Dad just painted for me:
DUG DROID
by Elias and Darth Daddy
(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-o-qFctNqfmU/T8UV9FIjvYI/AAAAAAAAEyA/2V6V2OagmdQ/s320/IMGP4931.JPG)
This is a droid that I designed and Dad painted for me. We call him a Dug Droid because he walks on his arms like a Dug. The arms and legs are from a General Grievous and they were heavily modified. The torso is from a POTF 4-LOM and the head is a B.A.D. BG-J38. Only the legs articulate at the hips.
These droids were very popular on Malastare. The camera battery died during the photo shoot. We'll try and take more pictures later.

Dad threw this figure together and I painted him. He is made from a Wilrow Hood body and Fi-Ek Sirch head and hands. The vest is from some G.I. Joe fodder and the hoses are from a Bossk figure and some other fodder we had laying around.

-
That is a great Father's Day project! Very cool looking Nikto!
-
Just saw this over in the other thread. Very nice.

Thanks guys!
Here's the latest one I did. This H'nemthe Jedi was created with the body of the Vintage Kit Fisto and the head of the M'liyoom. All I had to do was paint the neck post and the hands to get this one done. Dad's still taking a break from customizing, so I'll try and keep things going.

Looked back through your pages and it's just awesome to see how quickly you've reached a whole new level. The first ones are already really good by themselves, but those latest are just impressive. Your dad had better watch out, soon you will become the master, Elias!
It's really cool to see you so involved in this hobby. Reminds me of me when I build my first Star Wars model kit with my dad, which was the AMT/ERTL Speeder Bike.
:)
-
Off to the front page with this update. Looking good Elias. Love those green troopers.
-
Great customs! I love those troopers!
-
Very nice work, lad! (my son is 19 - I call him lad too.) Dr. Whitenail is a stellar work indeed!

THANK YOU ELIAS I LOVE MY SECRET SANTA DH 0/

WOW! That is one great Secret Santa gift Elias! I know Mike is one happy camper! Very cool looking alien with awesome paint aps. The Troops look great as well! Nice update buddy.
-
Thanks everybody. And you are very welcome Mike.
I couldn't let Dad have all the "Nightsister" fun. I wanted to take a crack at it too, so I grabbed the head of a Jedi Leia, a CW Nightsister torso and arms, and the legs of that super expensive Clone Wars Ahsoka Tano that goes for about a $100.00 on ebay. I took feathers that Dad cut off of another Nightsister figure he had turned into a Mother Talzin, and glued the feathers to the belt of the CW Ahsoka. The swords I got from some G.I. Joe fodder.
She's definitely my favorite custom that I've done.

My astromech was just a simple head swap.
To create the Naboo Peasant action figure, I asked Dad to hollow out the Padme Amidala hood. Dad carefully cut out Padme's face in case we ever wanted to use it later, and then used a Dremmel to hollow out the hood so it could be slipped over a Zam Wessel head. Once that was done, my design was complete.

So here at home, we're still busy with the "Smuggler's Gambit" Custom Action Figure Contest that we are promoting with RebelForce Radio. We have already received some really cool entires and we're hoping with the extended deadline of May 1st, 2013, that even more awesomeness is still on its way. For any of you who listened to the radio drama you know that Han Solo and Chewbacca visited a village and bar while on Abrossos VI. That means participants can enter the contest with a cantina alien custom action figure, or just an ordinary citizen that Han Solo and Chewbacca passed on their way to the local bar. A miner that lives in the settlements on the planet.
Notice that nowhere in the rules does the contest say that it has to be a "brand new" custom. If you made a custom years ago that you feel can fit within the "Smuggler's Gambit"story just enter it. It only takes a few seconds to email a few pictures. Especially if you have already photographed it.
I love this Rodian girl that I created because she can be comfortable fitting into a lot of Star Wars dioramas. She fits in a Tatooine street scene, as a dancer for Jabba or some other Hutt. She looks great in a cantina scene too. Heck if you threw a Jedi robe on her and put a lightsaber in her hand she can be a Jedi. Do you have any customs like these that you'd like to submit to the contest? Let's see what you've made. Send us an entry!

Below is my first attempt at sculpting with a Ssi-Ruu Bounty Hunter that I made. A while back Dad took me to the DK Star Wars Attack of the Authors East Coast Tour at the Tribeca Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Manhattan. It was cool because while I was there I got to meet Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Star Wars artist Chris Trevas was there and while I was there I picked up an awesome book that he illustrated called Star Wars: The New Essential Guide to Alien Species. It was in this book that I discovered an alien species called the Ssi-Ruuk.
Ever since I read the book, I knew I wanted at least one Ss--Ruuk in my collection. One day I saw a dinosaur at a local toy store that I knew would be perfect for my custom.
I also took my first crack at sculpting. I sculpted the headset and the shoulder armor with Apoxie Sculpt and then used assorted fodder to create the harness. I used some casted Jango Fett leg armor that I got from SithHappens. I also used Green Stuff for the first time to create the forked tongues that come out of the Ssi-Ruu's nostrils.
I made the one of a kind gun myself too. I pieced it together from about 6 different guns. Check it out and let him know what you think:

Thanks guys :)
So summer is here, and that means that I get to make all the customs until school is back in session. Dad is hard at work on his own projects and while he is keeping himself busy, I am making a couple of cool figures of my own. My latest creation is a figure we wanted to add to my Mos Eisly cantina diorama for quite a long time now. Dad had bought the head cast by I-am-Boba-Fett a ways back on ebay planning to use it, but I beat him to it. When Dad saw that I wanted to use it, he said to give it a go. The great thing about this Star Wars character is that you never see him from his chest down so customizers can get as imaginative as they would like with Melas south of there. I have seen a million different custom versions of his lower half, so I felt pretty comfortable winging it. I figured since Melas was wealthy, he was most likely well fed and kept him looking plump.
To make Melas, I used a cast head that was created by Star Wars customizer, I-AM-BOBA-FETT with a POTF Ketwol body. I switched the lower arms out for Obi Wan Kenobi forearms and used Embo's hands to complete him. Then I just painted him to look like he did on screen. Dad made me try drybrushing with this one. I tried to get out of it, but I'm so glad that he made me follow through on it.

Think I commented on this one already. Nice figure though.

I've been really bad about posting in this thread. I've been posting in my blog thread lately instead. It looks like I haven't posted in here since I turned 10. Here are the last couple of figures that I made to get this thread up to speed and current. I noticed a big improvement in the quality of my figures in the last year. Hopefully next year my figures look even better.
