Title: Screaming Samurai Studio Custom Figure Stash
Post by: ScreamingSamuraiStudio on May 31, 2011, 07:38:16 PM
Hey,
So I never would have thought to try to repaint some figures if I hadn't come to this forum. My stuff isn't so intricate, but I am going to start embellishing my figures. I got inspired by Hemble's work with the Sandtroopers. I always thought they were the coolest, till the Scout Trooper came along, but I have a trooper that won't sit on the dewback..But I have one on the way from the Bay that will!

Anyway, this is my first official figure that will occupy this new thread. But with this new camera I've got, you can really see all of the imperfections in the paint. That just means I have an excuse to go and try out some of those new Vallejo paints I've been hearing so many good things about.

OH YEAH!!
  The pics..

Nicely weathered trooper you have there! The biggest thing that bothers me is that helmet where the lenses touch the black band at the top of the helmet. There should be a thin whit line there, not your fault, Hasbros!

Yeah,
It's been screaming out at me like some kid down the street with a big fat uni brow. But hey, I have a new one coming in the mail. And possibly a few others that I want to include in a little diorama.

I have to say, Hemble has inspired something. But I want to do a diorama of another landspeeder at the checkpoint..Another young blonde kid traveling with an old man and two droids. Definitely not the droids they're looking for, but for some reason, the driver has run for it and was shot in the back...excessively. While the two droids are being taken away and the old man is bent over the hood with all of his possessions laid out in front of him.
Mistaken identity but they may have been guilty of something else.

Wow,
I've begun to find out that the figure forum is where everyone is at. I wasn't quite sure where to put this next one..not quite a figure and not quite a vehicle..though this is a mode of transportation. Anyway I am planning this new diorama that shouldn't take too much room on the shelf. This dewback is going to be included along with a landspeeder. I let the primer on this cure for about three or four days before painting this.
I used a mix of four Vallejo colors and used a combination of base coats, dry brushing and color washing for this one. I still need to dot the eyes and fix a new bit for the dewback. But I think the painting can be considered done for the night.

Looking marvelous! You paint washes and drybrushing really bring that Dewback hide to life. I can't wait to see more on this project!

nice job here SSS.  The weathering on the sandy and the dewback look great.  nice job with the washes, etc.  I tried this custom a few years back....the most difficulty i had was getting the rider to be properly seated.  any ideas how you're going to tackle that?

Thanks a lot..Love the log in and to be honest, its turned into a serious discussion around the house here as well.

This first Sandtrooper wasn't as articulated as the new Vintage Collection. They seem to always be on the shelf and in a couple of weeks, they should be in the clearance rack of the almighty walmart. Anyway, I snagged a cheap one off of the Bay, and I also picked one up and disguised it in the purchase of the dog  and cat food for the month..the latter of the two will be weathered this weekend. But they have the ball jointed hips necessary to sit him on the Dewback..The trooper may still tilt a little, but if you just dig the figures heels into the dewback he'll sit on there
OOH, I also have a re painted protocol droid that still needs one more layer of color and then he can be considered another finished element for the Tatooine check point.
   Pics later.
