Title: OP Productions. 1/6 & other Customs. (Update 1/4/2013)
Post by: RavenEye on August 20, 2011, 11:05:31 AM
Hello everyone! New Customizer on the block. I have lots to share. Though for now I only have 1. Here you go.

Yasis the one-eyed Trando.

Yasis was given a scar by his sibling at birth (Which made him blind in one eye.). Who he then conquered and ate. Later on Yasis fought near the end of the Clone Wars on Kashyyyk. Being confussed after his troop had been nearly vansquihed even with CIS support by a squad of four Clone Commandos. He later moved the rest of his troop near the CIS station for more support droids, only to find it blown up and Republic cruisers landing. Now moving behind the station he found a helmet cracked with a red hand streak and a blaster rifle still hot on the ground. "I've had seen this helmet before", he said. Though when he looked up he was surprised to see 30 droids that looked to be destroyed by melee attack. When he looked for a body there wasn't one found.

Here's a closer look at the scar. It was made with some car scratch sealant that you can buy at Dollar Tree. It's in the Hardware section. It's white and comes in a little container with a wee spatula.

I knew he was still alive. Maybe you ought to finish the Republic Commando Novels. Nice story and custom.

Look for this on our front page soon. And welcome to the Yards!

;D Thanks for the comments! I'm actually thinking of making a couple of Photo Novels that even explain what happens to Sev.

Love the orange colors on your avatar and pics. I guess you like orange. Sure does make me think about adding that color to our scheme someitme though. I also thought your avatar gif was very tasteful as some animated gifs are beyond distracting. I can see you have some graphics skills and please feel free to put up a signature banner within the size constraints.

Once again welcome to the yards and your first custom entry is now on the fp and will be up on our facebook page shortly.

And yes a photo novel sounds great. I would love to see someone delve into that story arc.

Welcome Orange! Nothing better to start with here than a Trandoshan. There are many Trando lovers on the Yards, myself included (just submitted a trando sith to the latest contest). Awesome work on 'ol scar face there! I'm sure I wouldn't be alone in asking for a tutorial on how to use the car sealant. Also excellent work on the photos! I can't wait to see more of your work!

AFE, I was thinking the same thing.

Wouldn't a youtube video showing how this was done be perfect! But we would all love to see how this was done even if you just type it out.

Just posted this at Yak for the Yakfinites challenge and thought I share here too.

Usidas Mon “Stinker”

During the Galactic Civil War Usidas was given the nickname “Stinker” after winding up drunk and accidentally falling into a Garbage chute.  By the time he realized what happened, he was covered in bile and trash. Being from Kel Dor the mask prevented him from registering the smell. Being still a little drunk and wanting more Rish 11 down his throat. He meandered straight back to the bar he came from running even the bartender  out of the place. Later on Usidas ran a smuggler crew on his modified BT-1E4 named “Sticky Finger”. Usidas ran the smuggling ring even through the Vong war. Last reports of him were near Dantooine alone aboard his ship. Living at 153 years old, he died in the cockpit of his vessel drifting in space for  pilots to see for eternity.

Okay, now for those of you who saw the question "Where to buy 1:18 scale baby cribs." There has to be a baby right? So here's the little guy.
He's still in wip phase, but I'll post him and the others when they're done.

Now if you curious why I need so many little babys and cribs. Then here's a riddle.

It is night, but the sky is bright.
Great vengance has come , to those who were right.
Many are slain, with their souls in pain.
Oh what a great tragedy will their deaths be in vain?

If you can answer the riddle before I post the finished project then you get 1 thing free in my sales post. Please note Saga 2 stands pending.

Once again, sorry everyone. One more day and I'll have some customs to show off. One of my bloody projects has tight BJ articulation that keeps scratching the paint off. Never ran into this problem before. sab <Feels like this every time I think I fixed it, but it has other plans.

Okay, I'm getting aggravated. Does anyone know of a sealant for Acrylic paints like Folk-Art or Apple Barrel that's not spray paint? I know Folk-Art's Crackle makes a good clear coat, though it's glossy.

Please vote now, this poll is for which heads will be on sale once I cast the body and the heads that win. Voting ends September 22 2011, just hope there isn't a tie.

I hate having multiple projects, ugh. 2 more days. Anyway, I'm doing a ROTJ Han & Chewie, a Fan-Fic character, and a CSF officer. I hope to at least have Han & Chewie shown tomorrow. If you guys/gals are wondering why it takes so long for these customs, well it's because the Fixit needs 24 hrs. to dry and every part is being painted.

Okay, I'm getting aggravated. Does anyone know of a sealant for Acrylic paints like Folk-Art or Apple Barrel that's not spray paint? I know Folk-Art's Crackle makes a good clear coat, though it's glossy.

I use a clear, matte spray sealant that I've picked up at WalMart for about $4; it's a brand called Plaid (from Patricia Nimock, if that means anything).  (It's NOT the crackling version.)  I've used it on all of my custom figs and it works extremely well; just be sure to hold it about 10-12 inches from your figs when applying a coat and allow it to dry for at least an hour (30 minutes will work, but the sealant hardens much better after a full hour).  This has really helped keep the paint jobs on my figs protected and from having the paint on joints rub off.

Looking forward to seeing Han & Chewie!  The baby project is very interesting as well...I would love to see your take on a baby Jawa...what would that look like?   :o

Head: 2011 TVC Bespin Han Solo.
Torso: 20011 TVC Bespin Han Solo modified shoulder pits.  (Had to do that because the shoulder pits were too big from the old arms.)
Arms: Saga 2 VC ROTJ Han.
Hands: Saga 2 Carbonite hands.
Legs: Modified Saga 2 VC ROTJ legs. (Sculpted the legs bigger and sculpted the pinstripes.)
Belt: Modified Saga 2 VC ROTJ holster and utility belt. (Made the strap.)
Weapon: Modified Saga 2 VC ROTJ Han blaster. (Made a finger guard.)

Chewbacca "Chewie"

I don't think a short biography is needed for him either. ;)

Buds-4-Ever.

Now what I mean by the neck thing is. He can move his head just like any other figure. Look below for production pics of Chewie.

First I had to drill out a hole to fit the joint below.
Now the joint consists of a #41 clone ball neck, Evo Anakin ball neck, and ROTS Stass ball neck glued together.
Here I had to drill the torso to fit the lowest ball neck.
Here we have the joint in the torso.
Here's his famous head tilt.

Okay, now I have lots of acrylic paints. Apple Barrel and  Folk-Art, but I'm sick of the results I get with them. So what's the best paint for customs to buy?

I need something that holds up to other painted items.
Doesn't scratch.
Holds on BH joints.
Takes only a couple coats.
Dries under heat from a blow dryer. (Hehe, don't want flammable. Though if it is, that's okay.)
And comes off easy with water on my brushes.

Must be cost efficient.

Suggestions?

By the way just so everyone knows. Local Hobby stores have all closed near my me. Hobby Lobby is 35 miles from me. Hungates locations closed. Michael's and A.C. Moore don't have a lot of Hobby paint. I have Testors Enamel, though they get sticky when dried.

I have been wondering the same thing. I find that Testors model paints never really dry and remain sticky. I find spray paint works pretty well even is thin enough to not rub off on some ball joints. Also Rustoleum oil based enamel drys hard and non sticky. Dries very smooth and glossy. Not sure what else to use.

all citadel, valejo and privateer press paints work very well and go on evenly and don't get sticky

I usually use the Reaper paints, but now that they have gone out of business, I have started to use Vallejo and Citadel.  All work great, but I always sand down ball hinge joints with my Dremel so I don't have any wear when they are used.

i do the same as well and i also put 1 thin coat of paint then 1 coat of sealant then 1 coat paint then the final sealant coat on entire figure

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Yeah, I have sealant spray paint. Though it's too time consuming for me to do so.
As for Citadel paints, $3.70! Whew, just to get all the colors I need would be $160.00! Man that's a lot of mulla. I might try some though.
I looked up Valejo paint this product is really cheap on ebay. Say if I painted a hand and then painted the weapon, would the paint from both rub off on each other when joined together?
Privateer seems to be the same way on prices as Citadel. Man, paint is high. Though I might try some too.
As for the BH joint suggestion, that's very clever Darth Daddy. I never would have thought to sand down the joint.
Huh, seems Privateer is the almost the same way as Citadel too. Do these companies think people are rich?

Reason I'm doing this is because I want to repaint the 4 (Han, Chewie, Usidas, and  Yasis.) previous customs. It shouldn't be to hard for me to get the old paint and superglue off. Oh, by the way if you use Apple Barrel and Folk-Art products and you want to remove the old paint. Use Wal-Mart's alcohol pads, they're in the Pharmacy Diabetic section and work great after a couple in the same place.

Okay I've got bad news, I'm taking a break from customizing. The good news is I'll be back; this isn't the end, but for me afford professional paint and equipment is going to take a couple months of hard work for funds. Which means time consumed to work not customs. When I do get back though, you'll hopefully see 2.0 versions of the other 4 customs and some stellar work. Plus, time away means to find new fodder too. I'll post and look at everyone's customs still and request some things time to time. Hope to show some better results of customs. See ya then.

Okay. So while waiting for paint and a new desk. Thought I should show preparation. Yes, it's messy. This is all the stuff the new desk is going to have on it.

Made a lightbox, got inspiration from Incom. Cheap too, cost to make is a $1.57. All ya need is 6x6x5 box and white fabric.

Dude...I understand the need to put the hobby on "pause" for a while, it's an expensive addiction!  In my area, I NEVER find figs/vehicles at garage sales/thrift stores, I have to pay full price or wait for a 'Con to roll around and hope I snag some cheap pieces (after paying for tickets, parking, gas, etc!).  Also, a few years ago I made the jump from the "craft store" paints to Citadel paints.  It is TOTALLY worth the investment!  I still use the cheap ones for large items, background stuff, accessories, etc...but I LOVE the better quality paints.  I don't regret the decision to upgrade my paint collection.

Mmm hmm, that's what I'm doing. The cheap paint will be used for dios and such. I go to Toy Shows and it's the same as the Cons, "Gas, pay to get in, etc.", but I find great deals. I also check craigslist's yard sales for figures, I got lucky last year with one. $3 a fig, *Cha-Ching* So thanks for the support.

Ordered from Reaper Paints
Paint cost $185.99 that's with case paint holder. The shipping was free because of their $25 over free shipping deal.

So now 200.00
           -189.00
           ______
            14.01

Just need to order the desk in 2 weeks. Yes 2 weeks..., when I get paid again then I'm back to customizing! Yay!

Alright guys/gals I have the desk and everything set up and I am customizing again. I would like to thank everyone for helping with suggestions of paint. Including darthdaddy for the Reaper Paint suggestion! The paint works miracles. I'll have some pics of the desk and setup tomorrow in the Reference section of "What does your desk looks like?" Though some notes don't buy anything Mainstays..., I had to improvise the build of the desk cause the carpenters didn't measure right. I mean I have pieces longer and drill holes that don't match, you'll see tomorrow. The desk by luck was found 30 miles from at a Wally for $119 bucks $10 bucks more, but at least I don't have to wait anymore.

Project I'm working on now is my Mando Girl I was going to enter for Clonehead's contest.
Next projects:

Super-Articulated Yoda. I already got a wip with him having BJ arms!

ROTS Anakin, I think the 08' and 05' molds are too beefy so I'm going with a 08' Qui-gon and a 11' Peasant Anakin legs with a Evo 05' head. Though I may go with the Evo 05' AOTC body and modify it. Who knows?

Pics of all my wip projects later...

This custom is a honor to my Aunt Darlene who died from Breast Cancer in September of 06'. My thoughts and prayers are to others who lost love ones.

Darlene "Fancy" Uhi

Darlene was married to a Mandolorian named Ashtun Uhi. When he died on the front from friendly fire from the Separatist forces. Darlene swore to make the Seps pay for her Husband's death. Though Darlene had never done much other than hunt for wild animals for Ashtun. So she became a Bounty Hunter to learn new skills. Upon learning new skills, she found that shooting with a pinky finger up was menacing to her bountys. In turn earning her the nickname "Fancy". After bounty hunting for 2 years she felt it was time to take out the whole Separatist Council to avenge her loved one. Though as the Republic became the Empire, she learned that her sacred goal had been striped from her. She now became obsessed to kill the one who took that advantage away.

@ DocOutlands-Thank You. Yes the figure is hard to work, but it is good fodder. You just have to manipulate it a little.

@ ActionFigureEmpire-I hand sculpted it, made sure all the details were the same as Fett's. I though not sculpting the shoulder, stomach, and back plates would give her more character.

@ Art deWhill-Thank You. Glad you like my custom.

@ Mungo Baobab- Thanks glad you too like my custom.

Nice paint work and sculpting on the Mando girl, this is the key to an amazing figure and you did a great job. P.S. dig the breast cancer ribbon you painted.

Okay, for my second commission I made a Republic Commando DC-15s Side-Arm Blaster for my friend.

Parts used, DC-15 Blaster (VC45 one heavily modified.), #33 Clone Commander Grappling hook (That's the barrel end, heavily modified.), and cut cardstock with superglue.

Boss will demonstrate it's awesomeness.

I really like this...the level of detail that goes into custom weapons is very challenging for me, but something I aspire to improve in.  You, my friend, have mastered the skill!

Very nicely done!   ()rr

Nice Work! I like the silver "folding stock" paint detail. Seems like most of the Star Wars weapons have some kind of "folding stock"... Now to make a saber with a folding stock! Mwahahahahaha!

@ JLaban4 - Thanks! :D

@ SilverRider38 - Thank You, I did a lot of research on the details and even played the game over again to get screen shots of the back and side of the blaster. And yes I recomend the RC TRU pack. They are fully articulated even with BJ shoulders!

@ Tamer - Front Page, Yay!!! :D

@ ActionFigureEmpire - Thanks! Yeah.... a folding stock lightsaber would be awesome! Go for it!

@ Clonehead - Thanks man!

@ CaptainLux - Thank You!

@ Mungo Baobab - Thanks!!!

@ JediMerc - Yes very hard for me too. Mainly because of making a conjoining pi
ece flush and square with the other.

@ JediMindtrix - Gracias!

@ ghostskull18 - Thanks!!!

Whew lot to type. Oh by the way Happy Almost Holidays! And a 21 days 2 hrs. and 43 seconds Happy New Year!

Ok, first of all; Happy New Year to ya all!!!

Now, in custom wise; I'm going into 1:6 customs. Still doing 1:18, but I'm fascinated by customs I see at sideshow collectors and want to get more into that. I just finished a 1:6 dio for my SSC Cpt. Rex. Have pics of that tomorrow. I'm also still working on a comission for a Cantina Drink Dispencer. Heads for it are great DocOutlands! Next comission is for 4 RC pistols (pg. 10).
