()rr Hello to everyone here at the Shipyards! I'm Silver Rider38, and I'm brand new to The Yards. I've got a few simple customs I'd like to post; nothing advanced, just a few custom paint jobs. So far all I've really done are custom paints of Clone Troopers, animated and otherwise. I started painting a year or so ago, and I can tell I've improved since then (not a whole lot). I'm looking into doing more advanced customs with custom molds etc. So for my first post I will display a repainted Fordo "ARC Trooper Commander" (Yes, blasphemy!), and a painted Vintage Style AOTC Clone Trooper.
Best Regards, Thanks for accepting me to The Yards,
Silver Rider38

This is Lt. Izac Holt, an officer of the 76th Outrider Battalion. Lt. Holt was a Mando mercenary recruited by Jango Fett five years before the Battle of Geonosis to train ARC troopers and Clone Officers. He was the youngest of the instructors on Kamino. Due to his wide skill set as a mercenary, and young age, Holt was recruited by the GAR as a field officer to lead a specialized battalion that would enter combat zones immediately after RC operations. The 76th have also been utilized in the event that RC squads or ARC Troopers aren't available.
Hope you all enjoy (Still figuring out the Forum haha)

Nice work, SR! Welcome to the shipyards!
-
That is a great looking figure and welcome to the yards!
-
welcome to the best custom site in the known universe 8)
-
Very Cool!, welcome to the yards! ;D
-
Thank you all, here's a few more pics on the detailing.

The man under the bucket, sporting a nasty/badass scar.

Lt. Holt decked out in Commander Faie gear. Ready to snipe some Separatist ne'er do wells.
-
Holt au naturale. Just another pic to show some of the design on the armor.
-
This is Sgt. Gonzo, one of Lt. Holt's officers and most vetted troops. Sgt. Gonzo has been around since Geonosis, thanks in part to his stubbornness and great luck. He's walked away from many vehicle wrecks practically unharmed, although his armor speaks volumes for all that he's been through.
-
Just a few close ups of Gonzo. I need to go back and fix some of the "rough edges" around his patterns, and cover some of the left over red from his previous paint job.
-
Great work! ;D welcome to ISY.
-
COOL WORK! ;D
-
Thanks everyone! I'm happy to finally be a part of a community like The Yards, where I can show my work, and get some feedback. I've seen a lot of your guy's work through You Tube (Wraith9), or just through random Google searches. Any constructive criticism or pointers would be much appreciated. So far I'm just working with basic Testor's Acrylic paints; are there any other paints of better quality that are still relatively cheap? (Working on a college student budget here).
thanks again, really appreciate the support.
-
I use apple barrel,or folk art, their really cheap price wise, but work fairly well for our type of work.some of it may be thicker then others,so you might have to use a little water with it to thin it out a bit.save your money by remembering that yellow & blue make green,so no sense buying green paint, unless you want a more exotic type of green. If i had my choice I would use games workshop paints, but thier a little more expensive, and I'd have to drive 2 hours just to get it,which i'll get around to doing eventually, and so should you,but i've just been using those two for now,and thier not bad.sometimes they may be a bit of a pain, and you might have to apply a few coats before it turns out they way you want it,but I wont say it's the best or the worst.hope that helps a little, but i'm sure someone else here may give you better advice ;D.
-
Thanks, I hadn't thought of the whole green thing hahahaha. I have a set of about 16 paint colors from Testors, one of them is a "Military colors", another one is meant for WWII model plains. The ice blueish color used on Holt and Gonzo came from the second set. If I don't have a color, I usually just mix, like the red for Holt's scar was made mixing a bright red, tan, and olive drab green. I think there might be a few hobby shops here in town; I got my second paint set at one. Once I have more time (and money) on my hands, I'd like to experiment with custom molds. I look around the Yards in awe, dribbling a bit, and think to myself "I wish I could do stuff like this".
I am but a Padawn in the ways of the customizing Force.
-
I foresee you will be a powerful custom artist. lsab
-
Haha, thanks JediMindtrix, I hope that to be true. I'll post some pics of an animated Clone Trooper squad I did a few months ago. They use a olive and light grey color scheme from the Military Colors set I have. I want to get my hands on a few more of the Vintage style Clone troopers, and a Vintage stye AT-RT driver, and make a decent squad for Lt. Holt to roast marshmallows with in the Outer Rim. Thank ya ;D
-
Here's an Animated squad I did a few months ago. Sorry for the picture quality, these were the only pics I currently have in my possession. I'll do another photo shoot once I'm back home, so you can see each member of the squad in greater detail.
Basically, I thought this would be a squad of troops re-trained by the ARC trooper in the middle of the Clone Wars, to compensate for dwindling ARC troopers and RC squads. The ARC led squad would act as an RC squad, taking on assignments that primarily involved destroying Separatist prototypes and secret weapons. I'm still thinking of names for all the members and their Unit/Squad name. But all the "staple" members are present, Badass ARC leader, heavy troop, Sniper, cool 2nd in command, and a scout/medic type. Once I get back home, I plan on adding more to them.
Once again, hope you all enjoy!

Welcome to the yards, amazing customs man, really liking those clone troopers!

Love that up close-and-personal photo of the ARC commander; nice work!

Welcome to the Yards and the front page.
;D Thanks guys! Just got back from class to see a familiar ARC Trooper on the front page of the Yards. You can only imagine the smile on my face! Thanks for the front page post, I hope to have some more material posted mid-December once I'm back home with all my materials. Can't wait to post some more sweet customs!
Glad to be a part of The Yards ;D
-
Okay... I lied about not posting until Mid-December haha. Here's a few more Holt pics.

Thanks Helix! I really wanted to make a good first impression with everyone at the Yards, and this was my most recent work I have with me. I'm glad my work has gotten a good reception, and I'm very eager to make some top notch customs. "We strive to excel".
-
I convinced my cousin to join the Yards! He should be joining within the next couple of days; not sure of his username yet. I'm gonna be visiting home over the weekend which means... Time to crank out some more customs!! Keep you all posted.
-
Those re really ciool customs!
-
great job on those and Welcome to the Yards
-
Star Rider, you seem to have a great skill in choosing the right colours and the right level of weathering to create a very realistic set of customs.
-
woooow great work my friend awsome color combination welcome to the yards ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Nice looking customs, but naming a trooper after a muppet? ??? They do look awesome though!

Hahaha no I had completely forgotten about Gonzo the Muppet. I recently read Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and part of the book mentioned his use of "Gonzo Journalism". So "gonzo" stuck with me. I also thought of "Bonzo" like the nickname of Led Zeppelin's drummer John Bonham. Hahaha oh well, thanks though.
-
Okay! Just wondering about that. And again, he does look really cool! ;)

:'( FINALS!!!!!! WHY ME??? :'(
Hey everyone at the Yards, sorry I haven't posted anything new in a while. I feel like Luke's X-Wing from ESB, cause I'm swamped- drum shot. Thankfully, vacation is just two long weeks away, and then I will have a MONTH off!! So, sine I will have copious amounts of time to do customs, suggestions?
My Current ideas:
- Two Standard infantry for the 76th Outrider Battalion. I already have two vintage clones purchased.
- A custom rebel pilot, with a custom painted X-wing, or Y-Wing.
Ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions? Excuse me while I go feed my coffee habit :P.
-
How about either a bounty hunter or maybe a slaver or pirate crew. You know, the scum of the galaxy. Also known as my favorite star wars characters. ;D. And everyone remember, it's called localization, cause there's only one country that matters when it comes to translating stuff, and that's Amerlanacavanya, I mean America. Yugioh The Abriged Series: Seto Kaiba vs. The World It's worth a watch.

Hmmmmm.... Perhaps a bounty hunter... Maybe a Mando bbfet... Or maybe a Jedi. Or a Mando Jedi...
-
I say you work on a Mando.
-
Any type of scum would be a good direction to take...we really like our scum here at the 'Yards!
-
Do what ever you want. The mando jedi sounds...interesting. It's like crossing cheeseburgers with dog crap! ;D A mando would be a good idea.
-
use whatever parts you have to work with and make it happen.oh,gonzo was a great name, just saw the new muppets movie.Hilarious(if you're an old school muppets kind of guy like me then see it).

Worry not, a deep reservoir of Transformers, Gundams, and old Star Wars toys for kit-bashing i have yosab. What's this con-founded boil and popping I hear all the kids around The Yards talking about, is it some new dance move? Did Waxer die, and Boil has a new buddy? I'm getting too old (not really).
-
funny you mention the boil and pop'n,I actually find a hair dryer works better, for a few reasons.it takes less time then boiling water, and heats up the plastic a lot faster, you can turn it on and off, unlike the water goin cold on you,you only need to heat the parts you need, and if you have soft goods, they don't get wet.it's a beautiful thing.pass it on.

Once again, thanks JediMindtrix :). I think I shall invest in a cheap hair dryer once I get home, cause I have many wonderful parts that could be used for kit bashing. I'm very excited for by next batch, I will most likely do a Mando and/or bounty hunter and/or smuggler.
-
It's so sad you mentioned that. Waxer did die in crossfire!
-

I'm sorry then, I didn't know, I was just trying to make a cheap funny. I haven't watched the Clone Wars in like 2 or 3 seasons.
-
It's okay, I was joking, too. I loved the Waxer character, but I'm not horribly sad. I learned after the deaths of Denal and Echo to ignore it, but he was my fave 212th. It also through off my FU2 mindset. I thought the last three stormies were Boil, Crys, and Waxer. But now...
-
Get the Outrider clones to us! Some people don't have much patience. ;D

Don't worry Mando, I'll have new customs posted after the 17th; I'll be home by then. The Outrider standard infantry will probably get done first, as they'll just be a simple paint job, without any armor add-ons like previous Outrider troopers. It'll probably be two of them. Then after that I'm going to sort through my various odds and ends to assemble my next custom; perhaps a bounty hunter or smuggler. I also might do some improvements to other Outrider members... A little kit bashing...
-
Alright Silver Rider, see them then.
-
Happy Holidays to everyone at the Shipyards! It's been a while since I posted some new material, but I have a couple new customs that will be up within the next day or so.
Hope everyone enjoyed their Holidays and have a Happy New Year.
-
Hey everyone, here are my newest batch of customs! I finally got around to doing some boil and pop kit bashing, and I'm quite pleased with the results.
First up is my Kel Dor smuggler Kelan Bel. He smuggled illegal, non-military issue weapons for Jedi Commanders and Clone Officers that preferred getting any advantage on the CIS. Through his services he met Mandolorian Jedi Daven L'ren, a very non-conventional officer and Jedi. Following Order 66, both Kelan and Daven were named enemies of the Empire, and became criminals at large.

This is Mando Jedi Knight Daven L'ren. He was left at the Jedi Temple in Coruscant as an infant. It was unknown by who he was left; the only information on his parents came from a data file found with the infant. His father had been a Mandolorian bounty hunter, and his mother a Correllian smuggler. Both parents were killed by his father's rival Ivan Dzel.
Throughout his life, Daven struggled to identify with both his Mandolorian roots, and Jedi way of life; two cultures that long hated each other. Daven achieved knighthood towards the end of the Clone Wars, and was fueled with knowledge that Ivan Dzel was working for the CIS. Daven hoped to kill Ivan, and take back his father's armor that Ivan wore as a trophy.
Since Order 66, Daven and his Kel Dor friend have traveled the galaxy smuggling and fighting the Empire.

Ivan Dzel, veteran Mando bounty hunter. He was the former rival of Daven's father. Since murdering Daven's parents, Ivan went on to work for the CIS as a hired gun on multiple Outer Rim worlds. Like many Mandos, Ivan has a deep seated hatred for the Jedi, and gladly arose to the opportunity to kill as many possible. Because Daven is half Mandolorian, a Jedi, and the son of his former rival, Ivan hated him more than any other rival.
Ivan took many opportunities to kill Daven, but failed each time. After the defeat of the CIS, Ivan pursued Daven and Kelan, hoping to thwart their bounty jobs and kill them in the process. Ivan also worked for the Empire multiple times to bring the large bounty on the criminals.
He wears the armor of Daven's father as a trophy, and to taunt the Jedi.

Very nice indeed! Great attention to detail.

Very nice indeed! Great attention to detail.
Thanks for the comments! I kit bashed and rebashed many times until I had just the right look. For the Mando, I let him sit in hot water so the acrylic paint would "soften up" and get this worn and faded look to it. All the black grimy weathering came from mixing flat black and a little silver paint.
-
cool paint job!
-
Going to be taking a break from customs for a while. My class load is going to be heavier this semester, so I doubt I'll have as much time for customizing :'(.
-
I don't know if any of you have seen these new TCW figures coming out later this year, but there is some very tasty custom kit bashing material here!!

Yep, very interesting material there for fodder. Nice Mando BTW.
