Hi everyone! I'm new here (my first post to this site), and to customizing in general. I've been involved in this hobby for less than a year now, and I've totally been bitten by the bug and spend most of my free time (when I'm not working or spending time with my wonderful wife) either customizing, hunting fodder, or planning new projects! Tell me what you think of my stuff and feel free to hand out criticisms and advice. I've picked up just about everything I know from reading others blogs and watching you tube vids, so I love all helpful information!
check out my blog at http://www.korribancustoms.com/ (http://www.korribancustoms.com/) Thanks for stopping by!!!

Hi everyone! This is my galen marek custom. This guy has been done by so many talented artists (probably because we are all yearning for a great marek figure, something hasbro has still yet to produce) and I needed to take a shot at it. I am pretty happy with the way he turned out, but he's far from perfect. I am most satisfied with the sculpting work on the shoulder armor and hand wraps, but less so with the paint job and facial likeness. I'll probably update this fella down the road, but until then here he is!
-
Awesome job man
-
BAD A$$ work here man these look great Starkillers recipe seems flawless DH
-
This is great! :D
-
really amazing job, wow!!
-
This is an awesome figure! Very well done on the sculpting and paint aps. My son wants me to make one of these for his Starkiller collection.
-
Great Starkiller so I added him to the Front Page!
-
I agree, great Starkiller.
-
I think Starkiller is my favorite Star Wars character of all time and you have certainly done him justice.
-
Great work! He is definitely one of my favorite characters to customize. I just started on my 4th version of him.

An older mando posse, very fun to make. I wanted to really expose the grit and grime on these warriors, make them look like they've seen their fair share of action.
-
Awesome!!! Which arms did you use for Fargo? and lower legs?
-
Belated welcome to the Yards!! I love your Starkiller and Mandos - great use of parts and lovely paint work too!
All the best,
Ray

Thanks so much!
-
Awesome!!! Which arms did you use for Fargo? and lower legs?
The upper arms go with the torso and upper legs, which is POC Skydive. the lower arms are from an Imperial EVO Trooper, and the lower legs are 30th Sci-FI. The arms when hanging perfectly straight are a bit noticeably out of proportion with the rest of the body, but putting a slight bend at the elbow decreases this effect. Just FYI in case you want to do this recipe.
-
Good job on the mando's man. :o

This hot babe was created using joe parts salvaged from some other projects of mine that went south and never returned from action figure hell. Despite having absolutely no plan, and scraping the bottom of the fodder bin, I'm pretty stoked with the way she turned out. She will get a brand new paint job some day (her face complexion doesn't quite match her neck and her top needs a darkening wash), but until then here she is, in all her incomplete glory!!!
-
Fantastic looking stuff man!!
-
SHE IS SMOKING! Love it! :o
-
Looks Great! I love it when you just go into your parts bin and go nuts.
-
Super awesome man :o
-
sweeeet :)
-
Nice!
-
had to get her on the FP! Nice!
-
this is a great update the parts you used really worked well !!!!
-
Wow, she looks great.
-
A girl with a big gun now that so Hot!
-
She's awesome any chance of a parts list?
-
NICE! She's badass.
-
She's awesome any chance of a parts list?
Thanks everyone for diggin' my chick with the big gun!!! as for parts, let me see if I can remember...
Head- Black widow avengers movie
Torso- Lady Jaye 25th (Probably my favorite female Joe body, I'm working on my third custom with her as a base)
upper arms- agent helix
lower arms and upper legs- renegades scarlett
hands and lower legs- roc covergirl
jacket- cad bane
holster and blaster- tvc han solo (any will work)
That pretty much sums it up. I had made a Juno eclipse custom with most of these parts that was destined to fail from the start. I thought she looked so horrible that I pulled her of my bookshelf and began tearing the bits and pieces off of her until I was struck by inspiration to create this. I will post her again when she is finished being painted (I can't stand the difference between the head and neck color, it's driving me crazy!). anyways, glad everybody like's her!
-
WoW they are all kinds of awesomeness rolled up in one now aren't they great work here well done!!!
-
YOWZA that is one HOT custom! Very nice parts combo and I agree you should match the skin tone on the neck. She will be even more perfect if you do. Awesome update!
-
Hey everyone!!! I've been posting most of my older customs on this site and and others lately because I have a pretty big back log of figures that need to be "released", and I'm spending most of my hobby time lately working on new figures for contest entries. You can check out some more recent work over at yak, and stay tuned right here to see my anniversary contest post coming soon! This post is the Lord Starkiller in Dark Lord Armor. Like most of my other older customs, I keep seeing ways that they need to be improved, so you may see this guy again down the line. Until then, here is

Really love the last two figures you posted. Actually Iove all the figures you posted. Great customs!!!
-
wow - super cool!!
-
AWESOMEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT JOB! what is the part list!
-
This Starkiller fig is outstanding!
-
very much a fan of all you have posted so far, keep em coming
-
Thanks Everybody!!! So glad you like this guy! As far as what parts I used...
Head: Starkiller Sith Stalker modded with portions of a vader outer helmet and sculpted down and over with apoxie sculpt
torso: Sith Stalker
upper shoulder armor: modded bits of some clone wars helmet from some guy I don't remember the name of :-[
arms: TVC Vader
Legs: TVC Quilan Vos (ball jointed hips!!!)
Feet: Sith Stalker
Soft Goods: That red sith lord that looks like a squid (darth Maleval?)
Belt: modded TVC Quinlan Vos lower tunic, sculpted over, and a little piece of something I found in my fodder box.
sabers: random leftover hilts from TVC figures
I think that's it. Stay tuned to see this guy again down the line. He's one of my favorite creations, and there is much to improve here. ;)
-
Yepper count that Lord Starkiller among one of my likes too. On the front page.
-
Great sith!
-
That is really awesome . well done on the parts you put together to make this outstanding figure
-
DUUUDE!!! Awesome!
-
I really love what you're doing right now; if this is your backlog, then I can't wait to see what else you've got coming.
Brilliant execution of a character I've always thought is one of the more difficult to translate into action figure form (at least by customizers like us). Sculpting has to be part of the equation or this guy just wouldn't be done his due justice.
I love the work you did on the shoulder armor. (I'm still trying to figure out what figure those came from; I probably have it here somewhere...). Either way, this is an outstanding piece!
-
your last two figures are awesome looking.. and by the ways thats the correct look for starkiller.. he just looks menacing..
-
This is totally awesome! I think it is one of best customs of this figure I have ever seen.
-
Super cool custom man :o :o :o
-
Just went through all the pages in your thread, and really enjoyed these customs. They're fantastic!

I'm soooo happy that everyone digs my Lord Starkiller figure. Starkiller is definitely one of my favorite SW characters, and now that I've taken on and completed (kind of) the dark lord and the Marek arena version, there's just one more version I'm totally burning to do. I REALLY want to do a tatooine tusken raider starkiller. Just one problem. I have no idea where to start with this guy 'cause there's not alot of good still shots of his full outfit online, and I don't think anyone has done him before. If anyone has any ideas for a base figure (preferably a Joe body because of the awesome articulation, but not necessary) let me know. we could turn it into a sort of group project! Anyways, on to more figures...
This group of figures was a yakface contest entry, and now that the contest is over I'm posting them over here for anyone who might have missed out on them.

This is actually one of my more recent works. The thing I love most about this group is if you take away the girl, you instantly have a Cobra sniper team! Just kidding ( I could never leave a hot redhead out of the photo)! Enjoy!
-
Just saw this on your blog. The redhead is a showstopper. Your blog is awesome. A lot of really nice pieces.
-
WOW! Love these! Great job!
-
I love ALL of your customs! Definitely putting you on my watch list!
-
Alright! More awesome customs! Love the Starkiller! He is also one of my favorite characters. This new group is very cool! The troops look great and as you said, you can't go wrong with a beautiful red head!
-
love all three of these. Thanks for sharing! You may see these on the FP tomorrow!
-
Wow! Great work on the Starkiller. Looks good enough to have been a retail figure, a shame we never got that one...
Oh and as to your special imperial forces, may I just say... hot. ;D
-
wow !!!You're special imperial forces is awesome a really cool blend of parts . Well done
-
Very nice. Keep em coming. I am definitely enjoying your work.
-
Alright! I'm a huge fan of the red head, what figure did you use for the head? Kickass job on this group really love the look of these figures. We need more hot chicks!
-

Thanks everyone for liking my Imperial special Ops Unit! I am a huge fan of the redhead too, if I say so myself. she's one of my favorite lady figures. I used a lady Jaye head. I cut of the top of her head (she has a molded on hat) and her hair. I sculpted the hair and added a Juno Eclipse hat, and "presto"! Imperial chick!
-
Dig Them! Could we get more pics of the two kneeling?

Cool group shot. Great work.

"Mercenary Joe"
These are the customs I created for the Shipyards birthday contest. If you saw my entry photo in the contest thread, then you know that custom "Joes" is something I've never done before, despite using countless Joe parts to make my Star Wars customs over the past year. Here they are, I hope you enjoy!

-
Love them all but the bonus fig is my fav. What head is that on her?
The head on Jessie is from a seller on ebay called stocos28. I think he used to be with slayer and it's a custom sculpt. For anyone about to tackle a custom head sculpt, be ready for some serious frustration. Unless you have nerves of steel, painting those tiny little eyes can really make you rethink your dedication to the hobby (Just kidding). But not really. It totally does suck. I must of painted, stripped, repainted, stripped and repainted about a half a dozen times until I was satisfied with the size and placement of the irises and pupils. Have fun!!!
-
rocking bunch of figures! great!
-
Had to get this update on the fp.
-
Ok, so recently I've been devoting most of my time to adding to my "Mercenary Joe" universe, and I've taken a break from Star Wars for the moment. However, I still love Star Wars the most, and I need to catch up on my back log of older customs. A couple of these figures you have already seen if you've visited my blog at http://www.korribancustoms.com/ (http://www.korribancustoms.com/), or you may have seen them on another site. Here I want to post the whole crew of my fan fiction Old Republic Dark Lord Saga, "Darth Rue: Dark Lady of the Sith" (it's really not much of a saga, just a quick back story!). ;)
You have alredy seen Darth Virulan, he was my first post to this site. Check out the first page of my thread for a refresher. Darth Rue, a fan fiction Sith Lord creation of mine, was apprenticed to Darth Virulan during the Old Republic era. Upon destroying her master with deadly bolts of force lightning, Darth Rue took upon the mantle of Dark Lady of the Sith, and eventually became master of pureblood Sith Apprentice Darth Corbus.

Darth Corbus, a fan fiction Sith Lord of the Old Republic, was apprenticed to Dark Lady of the Sith, Darth Rue. A pureblood Sith, Corbus was strong in the force; however, his ambition and delusional belief in his own untested power led him to his ultimate demise. Upon attempting to ambush his master and wrest the title of Dark Lord from her, Darth Rue swiftly cut Corbus down with a single unflinching stroke of her lightsaber.
Darth Corbus

Dath Vaccus, a Sith Acolyte and assassin devoted to carrying out the bidding of Darth Rue and Darth Corbus, is mysterious in origin. Not much will ever be known of him, except that he was an exceptional and ruthless killer. Accompanying Corbus to the Sith tomb world of Korriban to recover an ancient dark holocron, Vaccus was murdered by Corbus, his body crushed by a Force thrown boulder. Corbus returned to Rue with well conceived and convincing lies, all shrouded in the Dark Side, and set himself on the path to realize his ultimate destiny. Unfortunately for Corbus, Rue was much more powerful than he ever could, or would be.

What is next for our Dark Lady of the Sith? Will she take a new student? Will she be destroyed by her own dark power? Will she fall into the light and be redeemed? Anyone out there that would like to help add to the story is welcomed to. Hope you enjoy the update!!!
-
These Sith are so AWESOME! I love these guys! Darth Vaccus looks just menacingly EPIC!
-
excellent figures!!
-
Awesome update. I really like Vaccus. Time to get this and a shout out to your site on our front page.
-

This mercs are a real masterpiece!

By the way, where is the girl's bike from? The bike's visual scale matches perfectly with Hasbro figures!

I just want to take a moment and say Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. And, if you will allow me to share (via my faith and worldview) this is one of the most special times of the year, at least to me. I am truly thankful to God above for His grace, mercy and salvation. He has richly blessed my life. I have the blessing of an amazing wife, beautiful children, and a loving family. I am also thankful that I live in this great nation. I hope you have a chance to take a moment today and look at your life and reflect on how fortunate you are. I also want to make a statement to the ISYs in general that even though we don't all know each other personally and face-to-face, I am thankful that in our hobby we have a common place to share our creations with one another. Happy Thanksgiving enjoy some turkey!!!

Thanks so much, I'm glad you like them! The bike came with a Captain America vehicle. I don't remember what it's called but I found it at Marshalls for 16 bucks. It's the six wheeled tank looking thing and the bike was pretty much the best thing to come out of the box.

Casie "Honey Badger" Colt: Mercenary Joe Soldier WORK IN PROGRESS
This is a new work in progress female GI Joe figure. The head is a casting of a Joe fig I believe, or it may be an original sculpt (I'm really not sure). Anyways, I bought it on ebay, along with the custom original sculpt female torso. Both came from the Angel Forge. Check them out, they have really cool custom action figure parts.
The photo below shows how I ended up attaching the lower and upper torso parts. This custom cast torso required a ton of dremeling and sanding to get a good seamless fit, and to hold the arms in place as well. By the time I had everything test fit and smoothed out, the torso peg didn't want to go in. Sithfire30, a brilliant sculptor and figure designer had mentioned that he uses magnets to hold pieces together instead of pegs, because pegs end up wearing out and magnets give a strong hold that still allows for full articulation. I think I may be a total convert from here on out.

Check back soon to see her all painted up, geared up, and ready to bring the fight!
-
Looking very good! I've been entertaining the thought of using the magnets idea after reading about it on SithFire's FB page awhile back, but haven't gone that route after reading about the cost of the magnets he used.
What kind of magnets did you end up using? And what was the cost (if you don't mind me asking)?
Great work here; looking forward to seeing her progress...
-
I can't wait to see another superb GI Joe custom!

Thanks man. The magnets are called rare earth magnets and you can get them at radio shack in their parts drawers. I got the smallest ones they had and it was like three bucks for a set of two magnets (kinda expensive, but worth it). I used apoxie sculpt to hold 'em in place because for some reason they don't seem superglue-able. Hope this helps you out!
-
very cool mods with the magnets I miht have to try this on a custom
-
Looking SWEET!
-
Love your customs!
If I may offer a point of advice on the magnets...I use them quite a bit also and used to get them from Radio Shack too. But, then I found a place online to buy them in bulk and cheaper than the four or six you get at the Shack. They are the rare earth type and work really well. They are also available in a variety of sizes.
Here is the link to the site I use: http://www.rare-earth-magnets.com/?gclid=CNCAltuV7rMCFSemPAodQhIAFg (http://www.rare-earth-magnets.com/?gclid=CNCAltuV7rMCFSemPAodQhIAFg)

Thanks for the link! BTW, if you use magnets all the time maybe you can shed some light on the superglue issue. this was my first time using them and they did not seem to be glue-able. This is a problem if I wanted to use them to attach arms or weapons or anything else I don't want apoxie sculpt all over. Thanx for looking!

Here's some new Mercenary Joes for the team!

Well here she is, all done and painted and weaponized! She was totally a lot of fun to make and the magnets connecting her torso turned out to be a boon when it comes to posing and gearing up. No more fighting the figure when it comes to putting a single weapon in two hands, like the rocket launcher here. Just pull her upper torso off, get the arms to hold the weapon and snap her back together. easy as pie! The only thing here that I'm not totally satisfied with is the photo. I'm no expert, so I couldn't get the lighting to pick up on the subtle shading details I was able to achieve, especially on the skin tone areas.

Good Wife earned his call sign by cooking meals for the Mercenary Joe team during the holidays out in the field. The team never had a freeze dried turkey that turned out so tender as the one Good Wife whipped up for them his first year on the team! He still hates that name to this day.

Berserker Wolverine
This is my first Marvel custom, and boy I'm totally stoked on how he turned out! This version of wolverine was made from a stock "Superhero Showdown Wolverine" by toy biz. I couldn't pass this guy up, the facial expression and sculpt is just out of this world. It's hard to believe they packed that much detail into a 3 3/4 inch figure! Whaddya know, my first Marvel custom, and my first non-Hasbro custom all at once! No kit-bashing here, just a repaint and custom metal claws made from silver bobby pins ala Jin Saotome. I know the claws are a bit long in proportion to his arms, but I kinda like em that way. Gives him a more "comic-bookish" look (at least I think so).

Awesome work!
The new Joes look great: Honey Badger turned out nicely as did "Nameless" Joe and "Good Wife". Great names, by the way!
Wolverine Beserker looks way more menacing than the original figure; you really know how to breathe some life into a custom figure.
Impressive work all-around!
-
Wow! These joes are GREAT! But that Wolverine is just AMAZING!
-
Wow, great update on every character. I used the Joes on the front page, but I liked that Wolverine a good bit too.

I've always wanted to do a custom of General Kota, but his hasbro figure usually goes for big bucks on ebay and I don't really think it's all that great anyway. So, if I'm gonna spend a ton on a Rahm Kota figure anyway, I might as well make him how I like him, right? Fashioned from GI Joe parts found in the old fodder bin, I purchased the Rahm Kota head cast from Sith Happens on ebay and got to work. I'm totally stoked on how he came out, especially his height. this figure is HUGE at over 4 inches, thanks to the Captain Britain lower legs and how high the head sits on the neck. He's a general, he should be tall! Feel free to ask questions and leave feedback. I love hearing from everyone!

Darth Zannah has always been a favorite of mine, I just love the Bane series! Anyways, this little hottie is gonna be in the mail soon, headed to Darth Daddy's house, hopefully on time to be under his tree Christmas morning! ;D
-
Oooh...I love how well both of these turned out!
DD's gonna love Zannah: literally she's smoking hot, no doubt about it.
I like the parts choices you used for Kota: definitely a more medieval feel with the leather strap, the Joe armor and the saber 'sling' on his back. The Hasbro fig really never came close to working for me either (and I've had an incomplet version of him waiting to be finalized on my workbench for many weeks). Glad to see an awesome rendition of this character (me being a fan of all things TFU)!
-
super cool figures, well done!
-
Wonderful work, my comments are on the front page.
-
Darksider80 would you mind giving us a run down all the parts you used? I can pick out a few parts but just need little help on the others. You can answer in the forum or via IM whichever you prefer.
-
Everything on page 8 is FTW!! Wolverine is out of this world.
-
Hot figures man!! Awesome take on Kota, he looks mean..
-
Nice job!
-
Excellent work on General Kota! Way better looking than the hasbro figure. Great parts choices and your painting skills really seal the deal.
Darth Zannah, WOW! Best version of her I have ever seen.
-
WOW! That Darth Zannah is awesome! Dad's going to have to take his Darth Bane out of the package for this one! Can't wait until it arrives in the mail. Thanks so much Noah. Happy Holidays :D
-
That Darth Zannah is SWEET! Elias is right. I am going to break down and take my Bane out of the package. Thank you so much Noah ;D and have a Happy Holiday!
-
im glad you are happy with my castings rahm came out awesome

Love your version of Darth Zannah. HOT!!!!!!!

The Ultimates!!!
Hey everyone, new work here...
After a 10 year comic book reading hiatus, I was recently bit by the bug once more when my younger brother, Justin, came to visit my wife and I with a stack of Avengers books for me. I was so stoked! I figured I could take a break from reading Star Wars novels for a bit, and so have become a regular at the local funny book shop with a growing pull list. The Ultimates have become a must read for me, and it was only a matter of time before I had to tackle them in figure form. Here they are, the Ultimates!!!
When I first started this project, I intended to only do Captain America, because I had a bunch of Cap parts lying around in the fodder bin. My intentions were to bust out a quick Cap and flip him on Ebay to make a small return on my large fodder investments. That plan turned out to be a complete pipe dream, as I ended up spending way more money to make the rest of the team! It seems to always end up that way, right? Cap was constructed using various bits laid over a night mission Captain America figure and painted with darker, more subdued tones, in contrast to the colors usually found on production figures. I wanted to make him look like you were looking at him on an old comic book page, where the whites have faded to a soft yellow.

Hulk, a forever favorite of mine, was a straight repaint. The base coat, an olive drab was heavily washed with flat black and then dry brushed over with medium green. I don't know if Bruce Banner has a closet full of purple pants or buys them in bulk at a discount outlet or something cause he's always hulking out and ruining them, but I'm not a fan either way. I went denim with the pants just because I like them that way. I really wanted to add height to the Hulk and thought about various ways to achieve this. I thought about sculpting spacers in the thigh joints, but that would of broken up the continuity of the beautiful factory sculpt. I thought of raising the mid torso joint, but I was worried about how that would affect the overall proportions of the figure. I even considered using a Marvel Legends Hulk, but he's so out of scale he would of appeared to be 30 feet tall! I eventually settled on putting him on a raised platform to create the illusion of greater height.

Thor wasn't ever at the top of my list of favorites as a young comic book fan; however, as I grow older and wiser ( I hope), I have achieved a much greater appreciation for the God of Thunder. The Ultimate version of Thor, from the current Avengers toy line from Hasbro, was pretty darn good right out of the pack, except for a few glaring problems. First off, his neck post and neck hole are sculpted in a way that he always has a downward head position. I fixed this by dremelling out the back of the neck hole so he has a more "straight ahead" positioning of the head. Secondly, Thor's hair piece was overly thick and sat with space in between the hair and forehead, creating a wig like effect. I removed the hair, sanded out the inside of the hair piece and thinned the bangs with a razor, base coated with a blonde mix and washed with a deep dark brown. The actual appearance of the hair is lost a bit in the photo due to the lighting ( really, the whole figure is a bit under-represented). To add a little height and ankle articulation, I cut the legs off at the top of the boot and substituted boots from Captain Britain. Articulated wrists were among my plans for a fully articulated Ultimate Thor, but sadly were never realized.

Ultimate Tony Stark/Iron Man, a straight repaint of Ultimate Iron Man, was the most challenging figure to accomplish from start to end. I began collecting images of Iron Man's myriad armor suits and selecting which ones I thought to be most appropriate for the project. Simultaneously, I accumulated a bevy of Iron Man figures from discount chains and started experimenting with different base coats, washes, dry brushes and top coats. I ruined about three figures and one very expensive (and not particularly well made) Tony Stark head cast during the process. Ditching the Tony Stark head cast (too Robert Downey Jr. for a comic book version) I settled on the Ultimate armor version, base coated in a gun metal/ silver mix, and bry brushed over with silver. After the dry brushing, I again used the base coat color to fill in all the Dark accent areas of the armor, leaving the silver dry brushed portions for the silver accents and as a base for the clear red top coat. I probably should have sealed the figure in a high gloss, but did not (and now rather regret it!). The head cast I employed was probably the most serendipitous bit of the project, coming in at the eleventh hour, just as I was about to leave Iron Man out of the project all together. I'm not going to say what head cast I used, I think it will be more fun to challenge all of you to recognize what head it is ( clue: a very ubiquitous figure from an extremely popular line.) Leave your guess in the comments section and I'll let you know if you are correct. Anyways, after the build and paint had been completed, a two hour session of snapping photos and editing followed, only to discover that Tony suffered from a bad case of go-go gadget neck. Could this get any worse? I trimmed the neck down and replaced the neck ball and head and snapped the whole session once again. I'm pretty happy with how the Ultimates turned out, let me know what you think. Enjoy!

Sweet they all look great! Is that an Obi Wan head on Tony?
-
Sweet they all look great! Is that an Obi Wan head on Tony?
You are correct my friend. Man, I thought it would take a little bit longer for someone to figure that one out, but you truly know your toys well. I was sincerely about to give up on Tony until I started digging to the bottom of the parts box and found that head. A shave and a hair cut, a menacing Tony Stark. I would have preferred more of a cocksure smirk, but figures with that particular expression are hard to come by.
-
wow, they do look nice. You can read my comments on the front page.
-
Beautiful work!!! I'm still waiting for Hasbro to give us a Tony Stark figure!!!! Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed them 0/
-
Great looking figures Darksider! Great job with that Obi-Wan head, looks just like Stark now!
-
Great looking figures man!! I like how they all turned out.
-
The group looks great!! The dulled paint apps worked phenomenally well, especially for Thor (which I don't think was Hasbro's greatest work).
I like the direction you went in using the heavy armor for Iron Man, adds nice bulk to the character. The Obi head sculpt was a nice choice too.
-
Very nice looking group. That iron man turned out great but I think my favorite is cap.
-
Ultimate Captain America and Black Widow
Cap is the same figure from the last post with a new masked head. I dremmeled out the neck post holes on both heads to make them much wider, and refitted them using hot glue to make head swapping a lot easier. Black widow, a project that seemed to be put on indefinite delay, is finally complete and I am very happy with the way she turned out. I picked up the movie Black Widow figure on a whim, not really sure how I was going to improve her. As I searched photos of Widow customs on the web, I began thinking how Hasbro has never given us a really great, sexy looking Widow figure in this scale. Marvel Legends always puts out dynamite ladies, so I began the task of creating a Marvel Legends style Widow in the 1:18 scale. Lots of sculpting, sanding, painting and waiting for the right head sculpt to finally show up in the mail ensued. When the proper head I had been waiting for finally did show up, she suffered from a serious case of man-jaw, so I sanded down the jawline for a more feminine look. I welcome your comments of props, advice, or criticisms as always, and welcome all questions as well. Enjoy!

Darth Bane
Ok, so Darth Bane is my all time favorite Sith, and he was actually the first custom I had ever done just about one year ago this month. However, nothing from that previous figure remains here except for the head. I was just beginning my journey as a customizer, and didn't know very much about how to go about putting together parts that would complement each other, as well as be proportionate to each other. The result was a disaster. I used an absorbing man base with a Zartan head, which made him look like a pin-head. The soft goods were horrible and his belt didn't make any sense whatsoever. So, in a sort of way, I pay homage to that first mess of a figure by completely redoing him, the right way, based on the same original concept. Leave your comments and questions, I love hearing from everyone! enjoy!

These are some great customs! That Widow is looking AWESOME!
-
Yepper, liked the Bane for the front page story update, but that gal is sure easy on the eyes.
-
that darth bane turned out cool. I would love to see before and after shots.
Man, the Black Widow did turn out sexy. That started as an avengers movie line figure?
-
awesome job on Bane, he is a beast.. Black Widow is a beauty.. ;)
-
Well done on that bane figure !!! And yes the black widow .....beautiful great update
-
Not an update here, just a question for all customizers who may know the answer. I want to have my black widow figure to be able to hold her sniper rifle in an aiming pose. The only way I can figure to get it done is to get some of those cool hinged wrists Hasbro is adding to all their Joes lately. Does the new Lady Jaye figure have these?
-
No. Just swivel wrists.
-
No. Just swivel wrists.
Yeah, that's the disappointing thing about female action figures. Unfortunately, Hasbro feels they don't sell well enough to invest any more in them, so it's reeaally unlikely we'll ever see those kinds of wrists in small-enough scale without having to extensively mod an existing pair of wrists from a male Joe figure. (I''m scaling down the bulk of a set of Firefly wrists for a new Arena Gear Starkiller I'm working on and, even with the mods, they'd still be a bit bulky for use on a female custom.)

Darth Plagueis the Wise; Darth Sidious the Dark Apprentice
Introducing the world's best Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious Star Wars Custom Action Figure Set! No, really, I am very happy with the way these two Dark Lords of the Sith turned out. I rescued Darth Plagueis from custom figure hell, as he was one of the first projects I had ever tackled in my customizing career. Early on, my concepts were solid, but I lacked experience and execution. I'm glad I got a wild hair to pull this one off of my shelf and give him an update. Sidious was a pet project of mine, as I believe hasbro has given us a tremendous amount of great Sidious fodder, but not one really great complete figure (just my humble opinion). Hope you enjoy the Master and the Apprentice, and be sure to submit any and all of your comments or questions. I love hearing from everyone!

Darth Revan: work in progress
(http://www.weebly.com/uploads/5/7/8/5/5785686/9701908_orig.jpg)
So here's one of those super cool, super articulated new Retaliation Snake Eyes figures we're all so hot on right now. And why not? He's absolutely amazing looking! So why would I saw a perfectly fantastic snake eyes figure in half, you ask? To do a super cool, super articulated Darth Revan scratch built custom action figure of course! Now, many of you out there may be pondering why I just didn't buy a Darth Revan Figure and articulate him out using said snake eyes joints and such, instead of building one from the ground up. Because A: This is my first commissioned project, and my customer wants to torture me, and B: Customizing should NEVER be easy! I am super excited about this opportunity to create a unique piece of art, specifically tailored to this collector's ideal. Lets take a look at some progress so far:
Here are a few of the materials I am using to construct Revan's Belt. The black lacing is going to be the base for the belt, and the anchor point for all the metal rings that go around Revan's waist. It's just some cheapo plastic lacing you can get at Michael's or other craft stores. I think it's used to make kid's beading projects. The metal rings are called jump rings and you can get them in the crafts section at walmart. They are used for jewelry making. The black tubes you see in the photo are heat shrink tubes that can be found at home depot in the electrical department. What I did is cut small sections of the heat shrink tube, bend open the slits in the rings, place the shrink tube on the rings, then bend the rings closed. Using a cigarette lighter, heating the shrink tube snugs the metal rings up to the belt, but not so tight that there is no play. Now I have a sliding mechanism I can use to adjust the placement of the metal rings on the belt until until I am ready to glue the entire assembly to the torso.
The center ring is held in place with a pin I made using some jewelry fodder I found at walmart. The pin is temporary, and will be cut away along with the lacing sticking out from the front of the center ring.
The belt with my favorite piece of soft goods, Luminara Unduli's skirt. My third figure using this piece, if anyone out there needs extra Luminara heads or body fodder, I have plenty!
Another piece of heat shrink tubing, this one is larger and will go around the figure's waist. It will hide the sliding mechanisms and bring a nice flush look to the lower armor.
All of the pieces waiting for the apoxie to harden, then assembly. Stay tuned for more progress coming soon!
-
Wow, I love this tutorial. Thank you. Back on the front page.
And I promise we will be getting you a list of questions for your CAFN interview next Thursday!
-
Really awesome work man! With a very inventive list of supplies to get the right look. The heat shrink tubes are a great idea, I have always used strips of pleather for stuff like this. The ability ti shrink them up a bit is just perfect! This is going to be one awesome build!
-
Great work so far, this is a really nice base body for Revan, not a big GI Joe guy myself, but this looks very nice so far. Good call with the soft goods, I use luminara's dress all the time for stuff, by far some of the best from Hasbro. I like the belt so far too, it looks very accurate! I can't wait to see what you come up with.
-
wow that is really awesome !! cant wait to see this completed well done
-
Thanks for showing how you accomplished this. Great insights into what's shaping up to be an awesome figure.
Congrats on your first commission piece, too. I can tell the customer's going to love it!

Darth Revan: Work in Progress Update 3/26/13
Here's Darth Revan so far. Still a ton of work to do, but I think he's coming together pretty well.
The customer for this commission requested a Sith-War era Darth Revan figure, and relinquished full creative license to me. I could make him however I envisioned, as long as I fulfilled the small list of must haves. I was really happy to have this freedom, and one thing I felt Revan really needed was bigger, more awesome armor! Now, most of you can recognize this armor as belonging to Mercenary Wraith from the GI Joe 25th line. What a beautiful sculpt, but not without it's downsides. Mainly, the armor is one piece, prohibiting movement of the arms above mid waist.
One must have request made by the customer was custom sith lightning. But how can Revan hold his arms out straight to shoot his dark side lightning with his arms pinned down? I solved this problem by cutting the shoulder armor away from the chest piece, converting it to three piece armor instead of one. Now he can move his arms freely and can be articulated in virtually any pose. How exactly did I pull off such a feat? Magnets!
Drilling out a hole on each arm, I glued rare earth magnets into the holes, and a corresponding magnet on each piece of shoulder armor. Now his armor is not only seperate pieces for added pose-ability, but completely removable as well.
A close up of Revan's iconic lower body. The fabric piece was cut and sewn by me, believe it or not! I am no tailor, so don't ask for any sewing tips. All I know is the thread goes through the needle, and the needle goes through the cloth. He still needs the red fabric that hangs down from the center ring to the floor, a little paint on the upper belt straps and maybe a couple of buckles too, then the lower half will be complete! Next project: cape, removable mask and hood!
Let me know what you all think so far. Can't wait to hear from you!
-
Your work on the soft goods is fantastic. Looking good, My Man.
-
I'm still in awe of the belt work you've done here, but your additions are fantastic and they just keep on coming! Nice use of the magnets: they blend in well in the arms slots too, so even without the armor they don't look bad at all.
Nice work!
-
Revan's coming along great! The armor does look like something from that time period, very nice work so far, can't wait to see more!
-
Had to get this update on the front page.
Really looking forward to tomorrow's interview with this customizer!
-
Belt work and soft goods are awesome. Great work man.

Awesome!

Looking really good! I really enjoyed your interview on CAFN!

Darth Revan: Work in Progress Update: 4/09/13
Darth Revan is shaping up into quite a good looking figure so far; no real major issues yet (knock on wood!) and should be complete in a few more weeks. As you all can see, the cape is completed, and the lower body robes are all but finished, besides some last minute additions I have planned out. The center red robe is a piece of plastic cape cut down to size, shaved in back for a smoother fit, and glued into the top belt for stability. I went with a blood red tone, a mix of guards red and british crimson. The cape is hand cut and hemmed at the neck; it took me about three capes worth of work before this one did the job. Most of the time spent on making the cape was devising a method of attaching it to the figure, and cutting and fitting patterns out of paper to get the right proportion to the figure. The magnetic shoulder armor really helps with the lay of the cape, and also provides a pinch point which can be used to pose the cape at the shoulder. I had planned on sewing a wire into the bottom so the cape could be posed around the figure's legs, but found it was unnecessary and decided to leave it out of the final cape.
This will probably be the last work in progress photos I will post before the final reveal in a few weeks. Stay tuned for "Darth Revan: Dark Lord of the Sith, Sith Wars Edition"!

Coming along nicely.
Back on the front page.
-
Wow! Very cool.
-
Wow this is looking sweet can't wait to see the finished piece. Love the removable armor aspect and that belt must've took some time.
-
Turning out very nicely..wow!! I'm a big fan of flat black colors...
-
Oh heck yea! He is looking awesome! You can really see all the hard work paying off here.

Darth Revan: Sith Wars
After two months of work he's finally done! Yay! I didn't spend every waking hour actually cutting, gluing, and painting, but mostly just figuring out how I was going to actually pull this off. I'm pretty stoked on the final result and I really hope the customer is as well. Check out my blog and read about some of the details involved in the process I went through to get this Sith fleshed out. www.korribancustoms.com (http://www.korribancustoms.com)
Here are the pics, and as always, I love your feedback and comments of props, boos, advice and questions. Enjoy!!!

Wow, that turned out great! Time to go let people know on the front page.
-
Came out smooth, Man! I'm sure your client will be quite pleased.
-
Simply awesome work
-
WOW!!! that's all i can say.
-
Wow!!! What a beautiful piece.. You did an outstanding job with those soft goods. Your client is going to love this..
-
Very impressive! Your work is always clean and crisp.
-
Really a brilliant job! I love the straight lines and accurate paint job; very well executed. The Force lightning is a thing of beauty, though: simply amazing look!
-
Looks awe inspiring whats the mask from?
-
Looks awe inspiring whats the mask from?
I made the mask. I fused together the upper portion of a clone trooper helmet with the lower portion of a mandalorian helmet, then created all the details out of styrene strip. Nothing of the original helmets is really visible on the mask except for the top rim of the visor, and the forehead. Check out my blog, I explain it all there.
-
Spectacular job, love me some sifffff!!!
-
Very nice work! That mask looks perfect! You can tell lots of love was put into this piece of art. All the small details have truly paid off in the end. The metal rings, soft goods, mask, and paint work = realism and this doesn't look like a 3 3/4 inch figure. Very nice indeed.

Awesome!

GI Joe Codename: Beach Head Modern Warfare Edition
Hey Yarders, I'm back. It's been awhile since I've posted anything new, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been hard at work! Two huge projects are currently underway: a twenty figure series in the Marvel Universe ( I just completed number eleven) and a ten figure series in the GI Joe Universe (four are done so far, with two large custom vehicles on the workbench as well!). This is my take on a modern warfare version of Beach Head. I really enjoyed outfitting this guy with weapons and gear, and I especially enjoyed painting the camo on his pants (my first attempt at camo patterns). Anyway, leave your comments of props, criticisms, advice or questions. I love hearing from everyone. Enjoy!!!

I am still reeling from your great Revan.
Man your new JOE Beach Head looks good too. Off to share the news on our pages.
-
Nice way to return after a bit of a break...this is a great look for Beachhead. The camo turned out very nice: not as "out there" as some, definitely a more subtle pattern and color choices. I like that!
-
Love the beach head (just watched GI Joe Retaliation tonight for the 2nd time with the kids).
Question: Is it an artistic choice not to paint and detail his weapon?
-

Question: Is it an artistic choice not to paint and detail his weapon?
No, not really an artistic choice, more of just laziness. He's going into a larger project, and as that progresses I'll probably go back and paint his guns and knives.
-
beachhead is amazing love it

What's up yarders! I'm back after spending many months creating my custom Joe team and an Avengers team as well. I'll be releasing photos of both teams in small increments periodically, so stay tuned! First up, Snake Eyes and Scarlett. Ever since Tankster posted his personal collection Snake Eyes months back, I was totally jealous and had to make one of my own! So, this version of Snake Eyes is definitely inspired by his rendition. I wanted to do a modern version of Scarlett, make her look really badass. This is what I came up with. Let me know what you think, I love hearing from everyone!

Wow, those look really great. What figures did you use for the base?
They look like really good bases for some Mandos.

Holy cow man, that SE is sweet. What head did you use for Scarlett?

Amazing work! Nicely done indeed.

Really nice work on some great looking Joes!

I think I can speak for us all when I say that your latest batch of JOE Customs is just over the top. I am off to share the good news. We can but hope there are more!
-
Man those are just awesome! I love how you have a uniformity to well their uniforms. I also love how you toned down the "ninja" aspect of Snake Eyes. It's a perfect blend of Commando and Ninja i.e. Comminja!! Scarlett looks great. Would like to see a pic of the back of Scarlett to see how her hair is done. I'm not particularly a fan of the modern Stalker headsculpt - too Ice T, gangsta for me - but again the figure looks great (and figure is pronounce fig-ger according to Tamer!! LOL! everytime I hear him say "fig-ger" it reminds of a guy I knew from Florida who would say, "Fig-gers never lie, but liars always fig-ger!" In case Tamer's wondering I pronounce it "fig-your" probably a Southern thang! LOL!)
Any special techniques to painting the camo on the pants? Do you finish the figures off with any sealant like Dull Coat?
Jason
-
Those are great! I agree with the uniformity comment. I know back in the day they designed some of the Joes' crazy outfits to market to kids, but I always felt a military unit should look more military.

Thanks man, I'm glad you like them! Yes, I did intentionally tone down the ninja aspect with Snake Eyes, I was going for a commando version but there is no hiding the fact that the character is a ninja. Scarlett's hair is just a short 'do, no pony tail in the back. As far as camo, I just randomly splotch patterns starting with a light grey, then a darker gunship grey, then finally a dark engine grey. I usually put a very thin wash of flat black over it after it's all dry to down tone down colors and make it look a bit more "worn in". I don't use any sealers; I used dull coat once but it left my figure feeling tacky for days and I ended up repainting it. It may have dried eventually, but I didn't want to chance it.

You have done a great job on the Joe figures.
Ron

MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, these 2 look great! As does the entire team! Very nice work.

Great detailing. The face sculpts on Wolverine and Hulk are really good, plus nice veining on the arms.
Did you add BJs to Hulk's wrists?
What did you alter on Logan's blades?
Good choice on Ultra-posable Spidey. I've been buying as many of those for $5 as I can for future projects.
Where's the close up on Black Widow?
-
I really like the Wolverine, what did you use for his claws? They all look amazing!

WOW just amazing I especially like the HULK.

Update 3/25/14
DEADPOOL
What's up my little Yardy buddies? Here's a new one Inspired by my brothers in customizing arms, Tankster and Stronox. I'm sure everyone else has had a crack at this fellow as well, and probably used the same recipe. That Snake Eyes fig is just too perfect, how could one not make it into a Deadpool? DISCLAIMER: I know the belt buckle is not what Deadpool wears. I did this on purpose. The "X" belt he sports is to identify him as one of the X-men team members in my incomplete A vs. X project. Enjoy, and as always, I welcome all comments and questions!

The Red Skull
Here's another Marvel Character inspired by a fellow customizer, Jin Saotome. The body, upper arms and hat are Colonel Vogel from the Indiana Jones line, The head is a cast (Ghost rider?), and the rest is renegades Cobra Commander. I made the Baton from a small piece of aluminum tubing and jewelry fodder. Enjoy, and as always, I love seeing all comments and answering any questions!

Using e cigarettes (http://www.ecigfiend.com/products/) lighter, heating the shrink tube snugs the metal rings up to the belt, but not so tight that there is no play.
Just amazing your work is just awesome. I do love this kind of jewellery so just keep sharing the exciting stuff.
