BIOLOGY AND APPEARANCE:Arachnoids were a species of sentient arachnids with a legspan of approximately 2.5 meters. They were covered in dense black and gray fur, and possessed four eyes and powerful hind legs.
CULTURE AND HISTORY:Arachnoids were an ancient race of aliens pre-dating the Old Republic. Half-humanoid, half-arachnid in appearance. Their race was nearly completely wiped out over 4.6 billion years ago. Nearly all of the survivors of the race escaped in their ships throughout the galaxy, they hibernated for billions of years, with the exception of their Empress. She would later come to Vulkoor in her ship, the Webstar and re-awake her civilization.
The Empress started to make contact with aliens in an effort to ensure their species' continued survival. Upon appearing in the galactic scene the Arachnoids quickly joined the Old Republic to gain protection. The Arachnoid Empress generated a new caste of workers, a diplomatic caste, able to interact with other species, although they still had to use an electronic translator since the Arachnoids speak in a series of clicks and chirps like many Earth insects. The Arachnoids, for their part, set about procuring as many starship hulls and other parts as possible to begin constructing their fledgling navy. The Empress of the Arachnoids was able to generate "boutique" chemicals and biological goods which were used to help purchase technology.
IN THE GALAXY:The Arachnoids are still rare in the galaxy and the ones you are more likely to meet are rogue Diplomatic Arachnoids. Ptak-Sok, copilot of the Black Widow, was an Arachnoid Diplomat.
