Radar guided even. That's the same mount and radar array that my ship's closed in weapon system had. They were .55 cal depleted uranium shooting chain guns that would fire around 3,000 rpm and were just "turned on" or allowed to fire by the gunner's mates. They would fire until the radar signature that they were tracking was totally gone and were meant to take out incoming missiles.

I am telling you. I expect we will see light sabers before we kick the proverbial bucket.

There was also a story about and android bomber on there. I do have to wonder though if DVICE is the National Enquirer of the Sci Fi World.

clint was the system  your describe  called "Phalanx"?  , the british navy uses a missile system called SeaWolf

I am wondering why the laser would be mounted off to the side like that, unless there was the regular phalanx cannon still mounted in the regular spot under the white radar array.

Yes Jay, you were right. That was the navy's other name for it.
