Avatar Movie: AMP Suit
« on: October 14, 2009, 11:08:53 PM »
Ok, next project! This will either be a straight up repaint to match the movie, or have a slight "sw" theme applied. It's WAY to early in the process.

The AMP Suit from the movie Avatar.

I've attached what I'll be working off of, which is a scaled model from the movie.  I hope to achieve the level of detail with the mud and dirt in the lower leg area. We'll see how it comes out.

I primed the toy last night, and I'm debating if I should go with the dark green of the statue, or to use Hobgoblin Grey. I think the grey would really make it look nice, but I am fighting the need to keep it movie accurate...

thoughts?

Grey with some weathering would look cool. I am excited to see your progress on this one. That movie is going to be cool.

I painted the hip assembly at lunch today and it came out great. I'll paint one of the arms tonight and take a pic so you can see before and after shots.

So far so good! However, I'm kind of mad at myself for not adding some grebbles and bits to it.  oh well, Movie stock accurate it is then and  a straight up repaint only.

Ok, update for today. So far I have both legs, the hips and one arm primed and painted. The remaining torso and left are remain just primed.

Here is a comparison shot of a primed leg, with a painted leg and a link to my WIP gallery.

Ok, work on this is moving along ...slowly... hehe.. but I'm getting there..

I've completed painting all the pieces and applying scratches and dings...The next step is to add detail to the cockpit, as well as a seat hearness and weapons sling.

Afterwards I will apply a dark wash to pick up all the panel detail and follow it with mud and dirt on the legs and waist.

Here is a pic of the Arms... I'll take some high rez pics later.

Cool buddy. I seen a 3 3/4 scale toy version of this mech suit today at Target for $20. I may have to pick it up.

Tomorrow I'll be finishing up the gun strap (painting it green) and I'm also doing straps on the seat. Afterwards I'll do a wash, then the mud and I'll be done.

Those interior details turned out nice.
That's going to be a cool looking piece.

This is looking good! I love the interior controls as well. Can't wait to see more and how you handle the dirty feet.

ok the only thing left to do is the caked up sand/mud on the legs and hips and finish the canopy... that and some final touch up.

Here is the reference shot, and here is what I've got down

I'm thinking that if I do another one of these I'm going to have to do it in Olive...
