Mandalorian Laws
« on: November 28, 2009, 07:27:27 PM »
Resol'NareThe Resol'Nare was the most sacred law that all Mandalorians were expected to follow. It was:

Ba'jur, beskar'gam,

Ara'nov, aliit,

Mando'a bal Mand'alor—

An vencuyan mhi.

Translated:

Education and armor,

Self-defense, our tribe,

Our language, our leader—

All help us survive.

The Resol'Nare is a code of six acts that define one to be Mandalorian and are the central tenets of their society. This code is self-perpetuating and was directly responsible for ensuring the survival of the Mandalorian culture and society long after the original Mandalorians, the Taung, became extinct.

Wear armor: Once Mandalorians reach adulthood, they assemble a suit of armor that suits their needs and skills. It is both a tool and a symbol of their cultural identity.
Speak Mando'a: While most Mandalorians know and speak Basic and other languages, all are raised speaking Mando'a, the language of the Taungs. When among themselves, they speak Mando'a almost exclusively. The language itself is very fluid and simple, reflecting the culture of which it is a part, and like the culture, it has changed very little over the centuries.
Defend the family: While the Mandalorians are best known as a warrior culture, they are also fiercely family oriented. Each member of a family is expected to protect the others, garaunteeing their survival and through this, ensuring the survival of the clan and culture.
Help the clan to succeed: Each individual and family is expected to contribute to the welfare and prosperity of their clan, which in turn helps provide for the family and individual as needed. This act is far from the socialist prop it first seems, as it is a neccessity for a society that spends a great deal of its time at war to provide for such neccessities as food, shelter and manufactured goods when a large number of a clan's adults are on other worlds fighting.
Raise children as Mandalorians: It is a Mandalorian's responsibility to raise children in the traditions of their culture. However this is not simply an imperative to breed, as it might seem on the surface. Mandalorians often adopt their children, caring very little for blood lineage and bowing to the neccessities created by their lifestyles as nomadic warriors. This act is a mandate to perpetuate the culture, as are the majority of the Six Acts, by passing it down to both offspring and adopted war orphans.
Rally to the cause of the Mand’alor: While the social structure of the Mandalorians is very simple, revolving around family and clan, each clan and family answering to itself, in times of war all families and clans are expected to answer a call to war by the Mand'alor, the leader of the Mandalorian people

Wedding Vow:

"Mhi solus tome, mhi solus dar'tome, mhi me'dinui an, mhi ba'juri verde."
?A Mandalorian marriage contract

Marriage is a mere set of four short lines, spoken together.
Mhi solus tome. We are one together.
Mhi solus dhar'tome. We are one when parted.
Mhi me'dinui an. We share all.
Mhi ba'juri verde. We will raise warriors.

Pacts are sealed with a mere three words. Haat, ijaa, haa'it. (Truth, honor, vision.)

Adoption:

Adoption is literally a single sentance between a Mandalorian and his intended child. Ni kyr'tayl gai sa'ad. (I know your name as my child.)

Mando culture was once a warrior based society with laws to protect Mandalore and its people, sparing no one else in the process.  Unafraid to kill, their reputation as knuck dragging brute monsters struck fear into outsiders, non-Mando'a, across the galaxy for 1000s of years.  No one trusted them but they knew they wouldn't turn on those paying them for their lethal services, everyone ELSE was fair game for an efficient end to those hunted by the war-mongering beskar-clad killers.

But that was back in the old days before they became a pacifistic society, eager to forget their bloody history.  Now its a society of pragmatic people forced to fight in the Clone Wars...  now the laws of Mando people are for non-aggression and diplomacy.

Well perhaps we focus on the pre Lucas change and ignore the latter,   It's a flipping joke,  I just hope that there is substantial public outcry as I think there will be.

A well-built sniper rifle is a beautiful thing. Ours has two zoom modes, "Up close and personal" and "Hello, you're dead

I have decided to boycott the Cartoon Series for now. I kinda thought they were getting away from canon SW a while ago, but this just pushed it over the edge.  I won't be able to stand a world of Mando Pacifists. Just can't.

Definitely! Not to mention the opinions of Mandolorians. It seemed pretty lively around here, I wish I had signed up before.

I think those TCW Episodes and the subsequent firing of Karen Traviss dulled some of us on Mandalorians, but get it fired back up!

I heard the pacifism of the show, good thing I don't have cable television. I read the RC novels last year and that interested me playing the game again. On Rebelscum there's a few of us that still talk about the characters, endings, and customizing.

Recently BL4CK5H33P (Blacksheep, can't remember exactly how he writes out his name), posted Mando customs over there and I saw them here as well. I even got a glimpse of  Lucasclone's Kal Skirata and Incom's Mereel Skirata, that it has inspired me to try a custom and 5 repaints of the Null Arcs. A fellow Scummer that goes by AgentClaret, customized the TRU Delta Squad into Omega squad and personalized them with unique weapons and accesories. I hope others have been around a couple of influences as I have to still want to converse in Mandalorian, I even implemented Mando curse words instead of usual profanity as a personal indulgence.
