You can read what I think on the front page.

Too bad you can't return that Hasbro version.

Yep.......big improvement on hasbro crap, looks robust and more proportionate. Detail more visible, good job on the white top coat too........not an easy one to get right.

Oh yeah,wow.........didn't realise original has 5 points, that's going back to the dark ages.

dark ages indeed.

I probably could get away with returning the hasbro version, even with parts missing and the figure having parts cut off of it!  Wal-mart is so freaking lax in their return policies... however, I could never live with myself if some child wound up with a figure that was even worse than the retail figure! lol

I did use elements from the hasbro version, the backpack and some of the "jets" from the back of the legs, it was just easier than trying to sculpt those from scratch.  You'll notice in my WIP photos thought that I did do some sculpting to add to the backpack.

thanks for the comments guys.  This one turned out better than I thought it would to be honest.

LED BAT.

This is a Battle Android Trooper I modified using clear resin parts which I molded and cast myself.  This just shows what you could possibly do with clear resin parts like these...

I basically replaced the chest, neck, head, and laser arm attachment with clear resin parts.  Painted the parts I didn't want clear with flatt black to match the figure, then installed an LED light through the back peg hole by drilling it completely through and gluing the led light in place.  Then I wired up the LED to an external AA battery pack.  I like using an external battery pack because it's more reliable than a button cell battery... and I don't have to figure out how to squeeze the button cell into the figure or the figure's backpack!

well, anyway, here are some WIP shots and other photos of the finished figure:

well, not too bad for a few hours work this afternoon if I don't say so myself....  By the way, I have a lot of these clear resin parts available on e-bay right now if anyone is interested.  I'll warn you, with the BAT parts, it took a lot of dremeling and finageling to get the parts to work seamlessly with the existing parts... but if your interested in acheiving effects like these I have other clear resin parts lots available right now as well.  Including a few Mandalorian parts lots!

Thanks for looking guys, let me know what you think!

Thanks tamer.  I wish I'd taken more WIP photos of this project.  I had to do a lot of dremeling on the cast resin part to get it to fit over the back half of the original figure, but in the end it worked out nearly flawlessly.  I'm going to have to get me some more mold making supplies and try my hand at casting entire torso pieces or maybe an entire figure...  (but I probably won't do it because molding and casting the simple pieces gives me enough of a headache... I cringe to think what it'd take to cast all the little bits of articulation in a figure!)

Yes I would think that all those moving bits would be a nightmare. Pretty cool project still.

dewback rider:

I wanted a custom sandtrooper to ride my custom painted dewback... I also always thought it was ridiculous that sandtroopers wore white armor and not a desert themed armor.  So I dug out the sandtrooper that came with the dewback that I had, made a TON of modifications.

First, I dremelled off the large neck ball and grafted in one from a jango fett. unfortunately I damaged one of the arms' socket joints in that process so I had to also fix that (hopefully it's not too noticeable).  I dremmeled out the helmet, since it wasn't a removable helmet, and made it fit the head sculpt of a snowtrooper (I love that clone head sculpt, looks rugged!).  I then proceeded to paint him up in a sand colored armor with darker undersuit.

there's a comparison with a typical stormtrooper...

although I wasn't happy with it.  I wanted a kama, multiple helmets, some kind of soft good poncho or head wrap...

But I wasn't happy with the paint scheme.   I didn't like the dark brown undersuit and the whole thing needed to be weathered to match the desert scout.  Today I went back and fixed all those things.

The repainted figure (no weathering yet) without all the other accessories:

Here he is, a Desert dewback commander:

and the multiple helmets for both desert troopers:

Sweet work on the drawback commander. That lighted bat turned out cool as well.

Desert themed battle android trooper.

I'm pretty proud of this one's camo.  It was a daunting pattern to me, as I don't often try to paint this many layers of detail.... But it turned out really well I think.  there are some spots I'm not happy with... and I haven't weathered him completely yet, so it'll look better once that is done.

Before I started this I painted the whole figure black as a base coat... mainly because I spilled my black paint (CRAP!).  This was what he looked like, I kind of like the "stealth" look of an all black BAT
