I got my hands on a 6" boba fett. And although I really like it... and I struggled with wheather or not I should customize it... I decided to do some tweaking to the figure, and wound up deciding to go ahead and do some re-painting too.
So here is the stock figure as we see boba fett in ESB:
I've always liked the ROTJ version of boba's armor better. I like the more weathered and battle hardened look to it, and the cobbled together feeling that the miss-matched paint scheme offered. So I decided to try my best to transform this boba fett into the ROTJ version.
First, I needed to correct the blaster. If you didn't know, the blaster seen in ESB and ROTJ that fett carries are slightly different...
So, stock blaster:
after removing the scope, modifying the barrel by extending it with fodder parts, I used sculpy to do my best at sculpting the front end of the blaster's ridges... This isn't perfect and I hope once the sculpy hardens I'll be able to fix a few issues with it. painting it will help too of course.
I also moved the scope back slightly to place it where it should be for the ROTJ blaster.
next I fixed the range finder. I used a piece of packaging plastic for a new stem and after careful manipulation with an exacto knife and a tiny drill bit I inserted a pin in the "ear" to make it rotate.
next I decided to go ahead and re-paint the gauntlets to the ROTJ color scheme. I mixed up the red myself and I think it matches up fairly well with the red on the helmet of the stock figure. I also weathered the edges with a little silver to match the weathering style of the stock figure.
That's all I've gotten so far. Next on the list is to:
re-paint the jet-pack... possibly modify the rocket to make it removable.
remove the sculpted toe spikes and replace them with metal pins
Remove and re-sculpt the belt to add the extra ammo pouches
also trim off and re-position the hip pouches more to the sides of the figure instead of in the front.
Create replacement belt pieces for parts I'll have to remove
remove the stock cape, and cut/place an olive green ROTJ style cape weathered, tattered, and torn
and finally slightly weather the entire figure so that he looks more like he should having been in the deserts of tattooine!
so what do you guys think so far?
