Help me figure out my 501st ID!
« on: March 29, 2013, 05:50:45 AM »
Well I got good news this morning; I have been approved into the 501st Legion. Now I need help figuring out my five digit id number to go with approved costume. I thought what better way to say thanks for all the great input here than letting you figure out what designation I should have.

So give me your five numbers!

My daughters birthday is

51506

I get four more choices if that one is taken though. You folks know me and my SW Endeavors better than anyone.

Spooky's number is the release date of Episode IV.

Shawn, Congrats on your acceptance.  With that said, I hope you don't adopt their attitude and imperialism.  I, for one, think the 501st is one of the worst things that has happened to the Star Wars universe, possibly ever.  While many of their folks are great people who do wonderful things, especially for kids, I cannot stand their overly rigid, segregational approach to fandom.  Trying to exclude people because they feel that their costumes aren't up to their standards is bullshit to me.  I'm pretty positive George never released the exact specs of any costumes out there.  I recall a few years back, a guy spent over $1000 and months of hard work on a Darth Vader costume and was told he wasn't accepted more than once because the air filter box on his chest and face piece to his helmet weren't close enough.  Yet I'm pretty positive that there were no well overweight Stormtroopers or chubby Mara Jades either, but that's beside the point.  Costuming, much like any aspect of the Star Wars Fandom, is about bringing people together to celebrate and enjoy the common bond that joins us all.  Yet time and again, the arrogance and disdain that seems to flow all too easily from the 501st really spoils the image of these fine folks.

Fortunately, I'm sure that the arrogant and despicable members are numbered in the few, while the ones with good hearts and intentions are in the many.  Unfortunately, it's the negative that always overshadows the positive.  Hopefully you can do a little to change all of that.

Now, if I had to suggest a number, it'd be 92307, or the Birth of ISY, as it were!

Pat, I think I got the date right too.

I am kinda hoping I get the date my daughter was born. As for your five oh first stories I have heard some of the same ones and can say that so far the folks I have met have been pretty cool and I haven't felt the arrogant air I thought I might when I first thought about joining. I already have two charity events lined up for the summer which is the main reason I wanted to do this anyway.

I even had the closest garrison member volunteer to drive three hours to meet me and help me with my costume if I needed it. And Pat you know me well enough by now to know that I am an altogether different kind of Imperial. And like you well know with any hobby or job or anything you enjoy there are always gonna be folks who try to spoil it but lets face it we have met way more good folks than bad on this little SW journey we decided to take those years ago.

Like I said, I'm sure the bad seeds are in the minority, it's too bad they've soured me so much about them as a whole.  Regardless, I think you're going to have a blast, as they do some awesome things, and your costume looks stellar!
