New project......stormy outfit
« on: May 27, 2013, 02:21:06 PM »
Just got myself a stormy kit for £350 near complete..........needs trimming, helmet needs a lot of work though. Boots too small, UK size 7.5-8 for sale never worn.

ANH or ROTJ style........I'm not sure.

I am thinking I may go after a TK Suit next. That or a Heavy Door Gunner.

Gonna take this to the front page.

Let me know if you need any help. I can get you a kit to make one if you would like. All you would need to supply is the pvc pipe.

I would also recommend a base like I made. The one I create would free stand, but I felt better knowing it was hooked under the shoulders and never could fall.

probably gonna raid the shed for some scraps of timber, plenty of bubble wrap spare. Got an old garden parasol base and an old coat stand in the loft gathering dust.
Gives me something to do the weekend,I got that 3d holo figure to do by then.

Well good luck. Take plenty of pics to document the process. Maybe you can come up with something easier than I did.

Got a few pics on the phone, had fun earlier tidying up the bucket. The tatty area around the mic tip........it's white silicon sealant. Once I removed that from the outside I found a crack, then on the inside found more silicon, not a secure repair.

Fun part was trying to remove the silicon from in and around the mic tip mount,Drexel wasn't up to it so used a Drexel wire wheel in a Bosch cordless drill, wasn't easy but it came off eventually once the wheel warmed up.

Fixed the crack with fibreglass matt & resin. Won't be seen once I line the helmet properly,I want the inside to be as comfy and neat as the inside of a sports motorbike helmet.

Mic tips held on with hot glue, done away with that and drilled them.

do you know what helmet that is?

that brow trim looks really thick

Are you going for screen accuracy? if so, the screen helmets had a foam "star" in them for padding and elastic chin straps, but if you want some thing like a motorcycle helmet they sell that type of liners on ebay for different helmet types

Thanks spooky.......I'm going for comfort with the interior, the exterior I'm going for accuracy.

Here's some pics of the repaired bucket, completely stripped it of all trim and decals, masked up the nose vent as its black mesh and securely mounted.
The helmet isn't a vac formed PVC job,it's a properly cast item. I imagine if it was PVC it would've bounced.

The thing I like about this lid is its workable,PVC gets scratched, dinged or scuffed that's it but with this if the paint gets scratched I can polish it out. If it gets damaged its repairable. I've prepped it for paint, thick coat of primer wet flatted back and the first basecoat applied.
Tomorrow I'll wet flat it again and apply another coat, another flat then final topcoat and laquer. This is gonna shine once its buffed.

Pretty cool update. On the front page.

I do believe I saw a wooden mannequin and a shot of you in the costume already on FB?
