Ron Hembling shares new Stormtrooper Dio...

"Hi All,

I have always wanted a Hero Cross Sandtrooper but they have been way to pricey so when I got a chance to buy a cheap Hero Cross Stormtrooper I picked him up and redid him as a Sandtrooper.

Recipe.

Figure - as mentioned he is a Hero Cross Stormtrooper and I removed the thermal detonator and then added the pauldron and back pack from a BS Sandtrooper. I like the back pack being larger then it should as to me it keeps in theme of the characters cartoony appearance, I then gave him a wash of GW Agrax Earthshade and then used pastel chalks to add the dust.

Base - as with the figure I wanted to look a little cartoony so I made the walls larger and door smaller and I made the walls using foam board and the greeblies on the wall and the door comms are from my parts box, the door is made using foam board and plastic card and the door frame is plastic tiles.

The texture on the walls was done using watered down down spakfilla and then I painted and weathered it using Vallejo paints. The sand was done by laying watered down spakfilla and then sprinkling sand over the top and then once dry I painted it.

The tarp is a dried out baby wipe and the poles are wooden dowels and the under the tarp is string to hold the pole and tarp up. The containers are old asthma bottle and some odd stands I had in the spare box and I kept these odd sizes again to keep with the cartoony theme.

"Hi All,

While I’m waiting for some 3-3/4” sci-fi figures to arrive from JOYTOY I decided I’d make a patrol ship for them.

The ship so far is around 34 inches long and is made using foam board, I still have heaps of work to do as it will have full interior and complete exterior details. In the pics from left to right is the bridge, quarters/mess, cargo/airlock and engine room."

This is gonna be huge folks!

"I've always wanted to make a custom 3 3/4" (1:18 scale) DLT-19D since I've made my upgraded 5 POA Death Trooper. Now it is finally finished.

I used a lot of different Star Wars weapons for the custom. First I removed the bipod from a DLT-19. I made the picatinny rail and the box on the side from thin cardboard. I shortened a scope from a EE-3 (Boba Fett) blaster. I also used a cotton swab to create the some parts. I made the wiring with a 0,4mm steel wire. I hope you like it."

Uh, wow! Now that is a blaster rifle on steriods. So fantastic. Man, this needs to be mass produced!

"Another update:

After the bezel comes the control board graphic and the front kickplate graphic. I did the control panel as before and used the plexiglass deck protector as a guide to cut for controls and doctored up with a magic marker to cover any panel graphic color seen underneath."

"First up, from arcademodup, came the lit marquee kit which went in without a hitch. Next, another of the escape pod kits graphics, the screen bezel sticker was applied. I put this one on in several pieces as the one piece application killed me when I did it from the Tempest kit."

"Spector Creative made a video of what Kenner had planned to continue the original Vintage line. I think he did some outstanding research and found some rather interesting material, most of which I hadn't known before.

To me the "dark times" began when Disney bought Lucasfilm and made the Sequels, but I figure these are the second dark times after the endless seeming gap between 1985 and 1995."

"After final assembly, I’m satisfied with how bright the graphic is lit. I am glad I used the foil. I used electrical tape to attach the foil and overlapped the edges to block light bleed.

This should be pretty sharp when the decorated cabinet is sitting g on top of it."

After sanding down the sides, I have cut out a doorway, using a piece of 6 mm foam for the door. I cut various lengths of foam for the surrounding decor, scored out the detail on the door."

"I had some scraps and bits of leftover insulation foam stacked near the back of the shelf and had an interesting thought. So I knocked together this little stairway-landing. It needs some sanding and painting still. It fits neatly between "structural" beams and like the mini-dio walls it'll be modular!"

"I went ahead and bought another big graphics package from Escapepod to redecorate my Rampage cab to be a Joust themed cabinet. I had also purchased a lighted marquee kit from another vendor. The first kit has a translit graphic for the marquee included. To be mounted onto a clear sheet or pane of glass and then, lit from behind."

He is just getting started. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

"To start this years new builds I'm creating four Star Wars displays, like the ones I built last year. These pieces will be themed around Nevarro, they can be individually displayed or placed alongside each other to make a street scene.

The measurements are 12" × 9" x 6", it's made entirely out of foam board, for each piece I have glued two pieces of 10 mm and 6 mm on the wall using PVA glue. When it's dried, I'll cut off the excess and sand it down before cutting out doorways and adding facial features."

I really like these modular add to dioramas he builds!

"I painted the interior of the Bodega. I just used a combination of woodglue and watercolor paint. Then painted the shelves black. Then I popped up a few floor tiles, because every bodega has popped up floor tiles. Also I got enough Wacky packages to pretty much cover the shelves. Theres about 50 different ones. I over ordered, and have about 50 more coming lol."

This is just a fantastic addition to his Spaceport Dio.

"Around 6 or 7 years ago I grabbed a lot of 20 Indiana Jones Russian soldiers off of ebay. I think it cost me 25 bucks or so. They were readily available at the time on the cheap. Come to find out they were rejects. The didn't stand straight or bend properly. Regardless I used them to make 10 rebel troopers, 6 ground crew and 4 officers. Dug them out this weekend upon receiving the Tantive IV."

Now those populated it up quite nice!

"All books will start shipping in May. To expedite the shipping process once the books arrive in the U.S., we have made the decision to have the add-ons assembled by the printer at the factory. This delays their arrival to us, but gets the books to you faster by having things like bookmarks, posters, prints, etc. pre-packed with books so that we don't need to assemble them when we receive them."

Sounds like the next update will be in early February.

"I finished the basic construction of my Bodega. Its all made from XPS Foam and foamcore poster board. The LEDs are from Dollar Tree.

Also started on the outside. Made a sign using a garage sale sign from Dollar Tree, and decals from BMC."

"Hi All,

Vader and Tarkin 1:12 scale.

This was done a while ago but due to bad weather I haven't been able to take my usual outdoor pics until now.

Recipe.

Vader and Tarkin - are both Hasbro BS 6" figures and have had their joints glued and sealed and then repainted using Vallejo paints. Tarkins chair is made of plastic card and plastic rod.

Base - is a picture frame and plastic used for the floor and the walls were printed by a friend we did a trade for. I used clear resin with a few drops of white paint and then poured into the light section to give them a more realistic look and the floor was done using clear contact sheet.

"I started on my Star Wars Bodega. Im using the wacky packages minis. I love these things. I just now discovered them and I'm obsessed. I bought these at Target and ordered an embarrassing amount on Ebay. Truthfully it's cheaper to buy them in lots on ebay, than a case of blind bags and getting 3/5 duplicates. Anyway I will have enough to fill my little Bodega/Kiosk convenience store."

I was notified yesterday that our friend Stan, who most of us knew here for his fantastic forums thread of Modern Vintage Customs, has passed on. I am just numb folks. I wish I could say something profound or poetic or moving, but he will be sorely missed here at the Yards and not just for his customs. He was so friendly and supportive here of everyone and always positive!

We here at the Yards want to convey our condlences to his friends and family. Stan, my friend, we will miss you!

Really liked the ARF trooper look Waxer and Boil had in TCW. I thought the Airborne helmet is a nice phase2 evolution of the ARF for Boil as he made his way to become an ARC Trooper.

The focus now will be on Toy Fair Dallas in October and digital marketplace offerings as the Association continues to evolve its mix of physical and digital opportunities for the toy industry."

"I've undercoated the model using Chalkboard spray paint because it doesn't eat the foam as ordinary acrylic spray paint does. The console I have been base coated with l airbrush gunmetal grey and the throne is airbrushed with green gold."
