Jaeger 45 shares three new customs...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 30 2019
"The Priest—another deep backgrounder from Jabba’s Palace and Sail Barge. There’s a Luke Endor figure under there, head is a 90s Jean Luc Picard cast, boots are cast from a Prince of Persia figure. Custom soft goods, shoulder plaquard, and belt. Thanks to Stan for the pouch sculpt!
I tried something new for the collar/shoulder plaquard that gave a very nice fit.
Hoover and the Rockwart. Thanks to Kai and his sculptor Andreas for letting me take a crack at molding and casting these! I can’t take any credit for their incredible sculptures, I just cast and painted them. Will be great additions to Jabba’s Palace!"
Nice, very nice!
JDeck gets further with his Shield Generator Project...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 30 2019
"I got my Amazon packages in today. Star Wars Legion Rebel Commandos, 5.5" fillable Christmas ornament, and my side glow fiber optics. I finished detailing my generator, and I'm test fitting everything now. All I need is the lights coming in from Evan's designs, 3mm 9v purple bulb, with corresponding battery pack and switch.
I cut the 3 ft. fiber optics into 8 pieces, I ended up hot gluing 4 of them onto the dome. It looks messy, but that was the only way. So I covered the glue mess with clear blue and red paint, making a plasma effect. It needed something other than just the fiber optics. It'll look really cool with the light passing through."
This is really looking tough to me! Can't wait to see it all lit up.

Now we know what got those Ewoks all fired up yesterday!

JDeck is making a shield generator...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, September 29 2019
"I made a little Squad Shield Generator. It's a bit big for 1/48, but it'll just be a larger variant. I don't think I can make it any smaller while being able to fit everything inside. It's mostly made of 1/144 Y-WING parts. I'll place the LED inside, and run the fiber optics out of the top, like in the game version. It'll need modifications once I get the LED in there. I think it'll be doable."

"For Commander Derlin with his trusty T-21 I still need to add a few more bits to make him more individualized and not just a run of the meal trooper. He has been hand painted. And a I will be adding a few more bits as I’ve said to bring him more to life.
Corporal Leyser uses a DLT-19 with deadly precision, I am waiting on his Pauldron and a few bits to bring him up from just a basic trooper as well."
I really like the looks of these!

I told you guys I have a LOT of fan-fic Jabba associates, I'm just getting started. These two are from around 2007. (But the guy on the right has been updated with a Marauders wrap; really love those Marauders accessories.)"
I bet if he has a Sail Barge it is decked out great!

"Next up is another recent one. I didn't dare cut into my only Brock back when a replacement would have cost like 85 bucks, but once I got a second figure I modified Brock Starsher's helmet by cutting away the molded hose, and adding this hose. Simple modification, but I love how this turned out.
And since Brock turned out so well I dumped the second figure into the parts bin, and pulled out a fan-fic Brock's Cousin (also with a modified helmet).

http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=9458.msg213793#msg213793
and that's about it. I used hot glue to attach the 5poa head on the TVC Enfys. Done deal. I like how it turned out. I've been wanting to do this for a long time, I just dragged my feet on buying the Forcelink Swoop. I think if I had gotten the 6", it would be too big, heavy and more difficult to mount."

Love the action poses on these. I also like how Ron gets the pose he wants, fills in the joints for more realism, and then gives them the paint jobs they deserve. This is gonna be epic.

Chuckles joins the customizing boards...

"I've mostly been posting my custom figures on Facebook, but after seeing Aude's recent amazing figures (a Shipyard's post on FB) I thought I'd come start a thread here too.
I've been customizing for a long time. The first I can remember is my little brother and I taking a black magic marker to a Stormshadow figure, which would have been 1987 or 1988 (it didn't turn out very well). I mostly part-swapped and painted camo on Joe figures for the next ten years because back then I thought of SW figures as a limited resource and couldn't bring myself to customize them, but once Hasbro started making SW figures I started customizing SW as well.
My favorite subject, by far, is Fan-Fic Star Wars figures, especially Fan-Fic that look like they could be Jabba associates. I finished this guy a week or two ago. He's Jabba's cook/bartender on the Barge or in a future diorama."

JDeck works on the dio for his latest project...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, September 24 2019
"Okay, so I'm done with this Vandor Mountainside. It didn't turn out as well as I'd like, but the main focus will be on the Swoop. I ran out of foam board, so it'll have to do.
So basically I cut the bottom and back of the mountain out of foam board. I cut out a square on the bottom to insert the battery for the swoop. Then I attached a plastic tube to both hold the swoop and run the wires to the battery. Then I filled the bulk of the mountain with foam and charcoal. Then I covered it with sculpting plaster and plaster cloth. Then I sculpted the plaster, to make it look Rocky. Then I used Woodland scenics watercolors for the rocks. Then I mixed glue, water and woodland scenics snow shaker, to make the snow."
I like it!

Ron Hembling finishes his Vault Dweller Diorama...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, September 24 2019
"Hi All,
Here are the usual outdoor pics of the Fallout dio.
NOTE - If anyone would like the prints I have please send me an email to hemble@hotmail.com and I'll send them to you.
Recipe.
Vault Dweller - the main body and clothing are the Alex (Clock Work Orange) figure from Mezco and the head is from CoomodeIs. For the outfit I just gave it several washes of Vallejo's Viking Blue until I liked the colour of the outfit. The yellow lines and numbers where hand painted using Vallejo's Flat Yellow and the gauntlet is done was done using pleather. The Pipboy on his left arm was made using plastic card and then painted using Vallejo Paints.
The leather armour is made using pleather and plastic card and the combat armour was made using Bandai Stormtrooper and Deathtrooper parts and plastic card. The leather section are old pieces of pleather and the pouches and water bottles are from older figures that I got from the parts.
Base - is high density foam and the billboard picture I found on the net resized it and glued it down to the foam board and the billboard itself is made using balsa wood and the damage was done by just ripping off pieces randomly and with Games Workshop's AGRAX Earthshade I brushed over the balsa wood and then used some watered down AGRAX Earthshade washed over the picture. While the wash was still damp on the picture I used a model knife and made little tears over it to give some damage and then I used pastel chalks with a little water and turned it into a paste and applied it to the picture to give it a very old look to it.
The shanty/shack was made using balsa wood corrugated cardboard and I used Vallejo Paints and Pastel chalks to paint and weather the corrugated cardboard. The scrap metal on the side is pieces of plastic tube, plastic fly swatter and empty asthma bottles.
The crates and shelf were made using balsa wood, the mattress was made using a dried baby wipe which was folded then the edges glued together and then I stuffed some cloth into it and sealed it up and then gave it a few washes of Vallejo's Beige Brown.
The magazines, poster, cartons etc were found on the net and then resized and printed out. The purified water was done using plastic card then I resized a label and printed/cut/glued them on. The Nuka Cola bottles were done using clear plastic rod and then painted the inside of the rod and did the same thing as the purified water labels. The Nuka Cola caps were done by cutting thin pieces of plastic rod and painting them and the satchel is just a small piece of dried baby wipe.
The bushes are from Woodland Scenics and is their dead foliage set and the small tufts of grass are from my local gaming store and the ground work was done using a mix of sand, kitty litter and spakfilla and then applied and once dry I used several washes of watered down pastel chalk to get the look I wanted.
Ron"

RCW Creations continues his MOTU Diorama...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 23 2019
"Last week I started a new MOTU commission build.
This piece is made from foam insulation board, the base, walls and the steps I have used 10 mm foam board.
After speaking with my client, 20"was too long to for into his deltof. I've taken 6" off the base and back wall.
The aim is to try and make this as close to the Filmnation version of the 80's, one of the things I have found difficult is trying to replicate the floor. After going on a MOTU DVD binge I settled on a floor pattern I saw of the turret floor with the Talon Fighter parked on it."
This is really looking all Castle Greyskully to me! I like it.
Dan gives us some custom Spacers...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 23 2019
"Spacers in Vacuum Suits:
Vacuum suits protect the wearers from the harshness of space. Spacers can often be seen wearing their vacuum suits while planetside or on space stations. The reasons for Spacers wearing their vacuum suits while not in the void of space can range from the wearer not being able to breath the same atmospheric mix as the place they are visiting, protection against unfamiliar airborne microorganisms, or simply due to the wearer wanting to conceal their identities...
The reflectiveness of the plastics and paint on the "Fortnite" base figures made photography difficult. At some point, I want to reseal the green/gray one's faceplate with Testors Glosscote. I was unable to do so tonight as my bottle of Glosscote was old and dried out so I need to get a new one."

It’s a Wrap!!
I’m on the bus heading to Berlin right now and I thought I use the ride to share how I store my vehicles now. I’ve seen LEGO collectors wrap their new sets in clingfilm/plastic wrap to keep them in mint condition. And this actually works for Hasbro’s vehicles, too.
Despite all environmental concerns, I think this is still a nice & cheap way to avoid scratches and catching dust."
I must say it sure does seem like a great way to me.

JDeck finishes his Death Trooper Dio...

"I'm going to call this one done. I just added a few small details. I used scewers again for the foot holes, they fit perfectly, but I glued them inside. Then I just stuck it in where I wanted it.
My take away on this project is, lump charcoal makes for really cool shale type rocks. I can paint them or drybrush or watercolor them. It's great because I still have a 30lb bag I haven't used this year, because it's been so hot. I don't have anything specific in mind for my next project, so I guess I'll go back to Endor."
Now this just rocks folks.

The corrugated walls and roof were done using corrugated cardboard I picked up from the craft store and I painted and weathered them using Vallejo Paints and Pastel chalks and then a wash of Games Workshop's AGRAX Earthshade.
The wooden walls, roof support and wall support sections were done using balsa wood and then wahed over with Games Workshop's AGRAX Earthshade.

"I’ve been intrigued by custom figure creations for quite a while, but have never felt that I wanted a figure strongly enough to give customizing a shot myself. A little over a month ago, something finally convinced me to act: the TVC Tatooine Skiff. When I received a pair as companion pieces to the Khetanna, I was reminded that, despite collecting every Jabba guard/goon Hasbro has released, my skiffs were still lacking. This would not do. During the past month, I have been customizing the missing five figures in my free time so that the spectacular skiffs may be properly populated. These are my efforts."

"I got a little bit of work done today. The last couple of days have been weird, I'm not real sure if I'm lucky or cursed. Like today I hit a cop car, in my work truck. He ran a red light with no lights or siren. I didn't get charged, but I needed to calm my nerves when I got home, that's for sure. Happy freggin birthday to me. Lol."
He came home and used customizing to calm himself down and enjoy his birthday properly. Happy Birthday JDeck!
RC-1136 is mixing up some mud...

"I'm excited to announce this will be my first Separatist vehicle! I'll be weathering it in panel washes and adding "mud" to the wheel treads of the Hailfire. I'm going to make this bad boy appear as if it has been through battle and rough terrain."
It is cool to see his process and plan. Be sure to scroll around and see how this looks applied to his AT-ST.
Ron Hembling continues his Vault Dweller Diorama...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 16 2019
"Hi All,
Finally got around finishing the Vault dweller and started on the diorama. I haven't taken pics of him with his leather armour I'll leave that till the final pics. The billboard picture I found on the net resized it and glued it down to fiam board and the billboard itself is made using balsa wood and the damage was done by just ripping off pieces ramdomly and with Games Workshop's AGRAX Earthshade I brushed over the balsa wood and then used some watered down AGRAX Earthshade washed over the picture.
While the wash was still damp on the picture I used a model knife and made little tears over it to give some damage and then I used pastel chalks with a little water and turned it into a paste and applied it to the picture to give it a very old look to it.
Ron"
I really appreciate you Ron shares all the details and descriptions of his project so we can try them ourselves!

Casting the head soon."
Wow, he is spot on fantastic. Hard to believe the detail he is able to pull off in this scale.

Here you have the chance to buy 13 all new Vintage style figures that could have been, but never were actually done.
You can buy them loose or carded.
I hope the “special offer” is affordable to you. I must say I can’t, but maybe there’s somebody out there who can. Loooks like they’re definitely worth the money.

Star Alien 70 shares a Dark Side Rey...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, September 15 2019
"Having seen the latest SW trailer I thought I'd share some images of an alternate version of the Dark Side Rey custom I did a while back. This version uses a cut down belt and a modified cloak from TBS 6" Kylo Ren 26; I opened up the front stitching and hemmed each side, then I added a fastener (my Wife came up with the idea to use a Bra fastener for this). The rest is as the previous Dark Side Rey: Hands, lower torso & legs from TBS 6" Sergeant Jyn Erso (Jedha). Modified upper torso, head, arms, and feet from TBS 6" Rey (Jedi Training). Custom soft goods tabard/sash made from satin ribbon. Skirt from TBS/TVC 3.75" Kylo Ren."

JDeck finishes his 3 Day Build...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, September 14 2019
"Like I said this is a three day build, and even with a custom figure, I kept it under three days. Today, I just added another black wash to the base. I don't know, I wanted it to look like stone, instead of just black. Also I had another E-22 arrive in the mail. I bought the Scarif Trooper Captain/ Bistan two pack, it's a really cool set. I already have an idea for my next project, I'll be using unconventional materials, I've never seen used before, so it'll be interesting at least."
This really turned out nice!

Mr. Black introduces us to Courageous Octopus...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, September 12 2019
"I recently discovered an absolutely must have app for us customizers. It's called Paint Rack and is developed by a company called Courageous Octopus.
http://www.courageousoctopus.com/
I wanted to keep track of what paints I have and this app does that to perfection. It has libraries of nearly 40 paint manufacturers and maintaining your digital paint rack is a walk in the park. Just scan the barcode on your paint bottles and you'll have them all sorted in no time.
But then I checked out the other features of this app and those really blew me away.
You can make triads of shades, find (near) perfect matches of a colour between different brands, make paint set projects (i.e. keep track of what paints you used for a customizing project) and even determine a close to exact paint colour of any surface you scan with your phone."
Wow, sounds like a great app! And no we are not affialiated nor is Mr. Black.

"A couple of more Equitors:
Rayam’are’tranolo - going by the Basic name "Maret." A member of the CEDF as an advanced recon specialist, Maret came across the Equitors in the course of one of her missions. Intrigued, she contact her commanding officer, who authorized her to attach herself to the group as a member and so track their activities to make sure they pose know threat to the Chiss Ascendancy.
Kara - an Iridonian Zabrak that Caji rescued from a shuttle crash site when she was about 10 years old. She kept calling herself "Number Four" and talking about the Master and his training. Clearly trained in the dark side of the Force and full of anger, fear and confusion, Caji renamed "Number Four" Kara and slowly over the last several years has helped her heal emotionally and redirect her talent for good."

JDeck is working on a Scarif Diorama...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, September 12 2019
"I'm almost finished with the diorama part. I just added a few little details, painted the plants a little. The colors look a bit funky because the lighting in my hobby room is, well, funky. Anyhows, I just need to address the figures. I have a couple of E-22s coming Friday. I can't for the life of me, figure out why Hasbro didn't pack in an E-22 for this figure, instead an E-11. I attached the figures to the base by cutting the ends off of scewers, glueing them into the foot holes and poking the scewer into the base. I want to make a squad leader, maybe a captain too."
Good idea on how to anchor those figures! It looks great.

"Hi All,
Note - I have attached a pic before each armour set as I used them for references for both armour sets.
My vault dweller now has two sets of armour, He has simple leather armour and combat armour. The simple leather armour is made using pleather, plastic card, pouches, shoulder armour and holster from other figures.
The combat armour is a cross between Light/Medium armour and has been made from plastic card, Bandai Stormtrooper armour, pleather and pouches from other figures. The Pipboy is still a WIP and so far has been made using plastic card.
The laser weapon is from Funko's T-45 power armour figure, the rifle and revolver are from a Madelman figure and the 10mm pistol is from A Mezco Batman with alterations done using plastic. Once the Pipboy is finished I'll start painting and weathering the armour and weapons.

"Been so busy I have not posted for awhile but you should like how this has progressed.
I have scored the brickwork and walkways slabs, just need to build the central sewer column for the water run out from.
I’ve made the central sewer grate, cutting a piece of board 6? across with two sides at 1.5?. I’ve scored the brick work, cut a semi circle hole for the grate. Using my rotary tool I’ve sanded imperfections onto the brick wall and back wall. I’ve done the same with the two walk ways.
Starting a new commission piece, this will be a weapons room within Castle Grayskull, scaled to Mattels 80's He-man and the Masters of the Universe range.
This piece will be similar to one I built for myself but longer to accommodate more figures and even Battle Cat as demonstrated."
Wow, what can I say that Sewer Dio just looks perfect from any angle and he is already off to a great start on his MOTU Commission Piece.
Mr. Black starts up a Slave I Project...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 9 2019
"Hey guys,
Long time no see! Thought I'd share a bit of what I've got going on at the moment.
Along time ago artist Billy Allison made an awesome piece of art combining Star Wars and Akira. I'm sure you've seen this Boaba Fett / Akira mashup before, otherwise you can just Google it.
A while ago I finally managed to track down a Slave I for a fair price. At first I was hell bent on the VOTC Slave I, but settled for the smaller AOTC Jango Fett version, because otherwise it would all be way too big to display :)
The latest pictures show the ship as it is right now: custom made decals applied, paintwork finished and a nice dark wash applied. The next step will be a pin wash with oil paint. Very anxious to see if I can pull that off!
Eventually the ship and a customized Boba Fett, plus customized sign will be placed on a big picture frame base."
Talk about some awesome paint and decal work already folks!

"Option 1: Water & Soap Can Do Magic Already!
So this way of bringing back the brightness to your troops is obviously pretty self-explanatory. So whenever I buy loose figures online I carefully look at the pictures provided and hope that they come from a non-smoking home. Sometimes I even ask. But if they do you can get the smell out over time with water, soap and much fresh air. The smell diffuses over time in a neutral environment. But the wasing water will turn significantly darker.
Anyway warm water and soap do much magic against dirt, lipids and dust. I always use a neurtal soap - no scent or perfume added."
Folks this is just a great tutorial you can use to restore your action figure back their great shiny white goodness!

New project and this is going to be a Vault Dweller from vault 68 and I put 68 as that is the year I was born.
The figure's body, hands and cloths are from Mezco's Alex A Clockwork Orange figure and the outfit was given washes of Vallejo's Viking Blue until I was happy with the overall look and the yellow sections were hand painted on using Vallejo's Flat Yellow.
The head is from CooModels Teutonic Knight figure and the leather gauntlets are pleather cut out and glued on. I still have alot to do to him and will show progress pics as I go.

JDeck goes Bob Ross on us for his latest dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, September 5 2019
"My idea for the floor, was to make something like an ancient castle ruin, converted into a modern spaceport, as a dichotomy of new and old. So, I had this idea to use air drying clay, to make megalithic stone flooring. So, I layed down the clay, drew my lines. However, first off it looked more like bathroom tiles than stone, and second, as it was drying it started to shrink and crack, it looked like hammered dog doodoo. So like Bob Ross, turn a mistake into a happy little concrete floor. So, I put on a layer of spackle over it, dried and sanded. Then I "painted" it with woodland scenics Concrete and stone grey watercolors. I think it looks like really old concrete. Reminds me of old abandoned runway, or factory floor. That'll work for me."

It's a bitter truth that their torsos turn yellow over time. And there are plenty rumors why they do so!
Do they turn yellow because I smoke at home? Or is it because I usually touch my troops by hand? Maybe the lipids on my skin make them all grey n greasy...

"Hi All,
The Mandalorian trooper helmet display scene is now completed and I'm calling it IMPERIAL WARNING. This display isn't going to have The Mandalorian figure on it as this is just a display on it's own or for spare figures I have.
Recipe.
Helmets - the one's one the pikes are from Hasbro BS 6" line and the pikes are wooden skewers and the cloth is just some old wrapping cloth I had in my parts box and the helmets on the ground are from Bandai.
Base - is high density foam as are the walls and I just cut out the shapes and gave them a sanding. The stucco is spakfilla watered down and applied and while drying I used a damp baby wipe and dapped over the spakfilla to give it a nice texture.
The sand is a mix of spakfilla, sand and PVA glue which was applied and while it was drying I sprinkled more sand over the top. The helmets, pikes, walls and sand were painted and weathered using Vallejo Paints and pastel chalks.

He is really doing great work with these Republic Commandos. Sure does make me wish we had some new The Clone Wars footage of some Clones taking on some Seps!

"Miscellaneous stuff and where you can find it...
So the current diorama project of JDeck inspired me to share this. Special thanks go to JD for sharing his work. Check out his current work in progress here:

I was going to add to this topic anyway after my holiday. I spent a few days at the beach and had some ice cream with my family - and I kept the packaging to make some cargo containers by giving them a repaint.
Here are a few tips of where to find random parts for your dioramas. If you have any resources to share, please let us know!

"Hi All,
Next SW piece in the works is going to be the scene from the Mandalorian trailer when the Mandalorian walks past the troopers helmets on the pikes. The base and wall are high denisty foam and the helmets on the pikes are BS 6" and the helmets on the ground are Bandai.
This is just going to be just the scene with no figures but figures can be added to it for display and the Scout trooper is for size comparison.
Ron"
Nice! I can see him adding that Mando to this in the future.
Echo Six makes some Spacetroopers!

"Just finished an easy and long overdue Spacetroopers upgrade. After my recent Han headswap festival, I had a handful of now-headless Han Stormtrooper bodies, and another handful of terribly yellowed LC Spacetroopers - Seemed a logical idea to combine them. The only real obstacle was mounting the jetpacks."
Click on through to see how he solved this to get himself a nice squad of Spacetroopers.
