Cool! So what is the relationship between Disney and Hasbro? They made the sandcrawler, which is awesome and their protocol humanoid droids are much better than Hasbro's. What's the deal here?

Good question JDeck. I wonder if we could get Hasbro to chime in on that.

I saw the news Dan and shared it.

Thanks for sharing this Dan! Apparently Di$ney know how much potential $$$ lie in Astromech Droids and Build-a-Droid...Hasbro proved it with the Legacy Collection. I like what they do except for the fact that all the Droid Factory Droids are exclusive to Calofornia. My father was in Florida in January and couldn't find them for hours until he was told that they're only sold at DisleyLAND...well, I might have to go to Paris eventually.

As of JD's question. I doubt that Hasbro will/can make a statement about it. But I got a theory.
Since all American companies can only give orders in China (not actually own a factory there), I'm pretty sure those droids are made in the exact same factory in the toy sector of HongKong. They use different molds than the Hasbro ones, but they started with the exact same molds/parts at the beginning just without the Hasbro SA stamps...
One aspect that speaks for my theory is the fact that there aren't many factories that can produce action figures in those quantities out there.

From what I can gather Hasbro has nothing to do with the Droid parks production. Evidently Disney just contracts the Chinese manufacturers directly. I always assumed build a Droid and Droid factory were basically the same thing. I never bought a Droid factory figure, but they look to be the same design, therefore Hasbro's intellectual property.  I dunno.

Yes, I don't know anything about ownership, but I wouldn't be surprised if all molds are the property of Disney. But I'm pretty certain that both Hasbro and Disney are just customers/clients at the factories that produce all their products.
We'll probably never know for sure unless an employee shares some inside info.

It's also quite silent around Hasbro and their license. As George once said, "(the money)It's all in the action figures."
So I bet Disney is very eager on getting that revenue all for themselves. I suppose Disney will present Hasbro a contract that is to their absolute disadvantage so that Hasbro will have to pass on extending the license. So Disney can say, we offered a new contract, but our licensee (Hasbro) passed. I don't want to bet, but maybe it will be for the better. I never thought I'd say this, but the current state of the 3.75" Star Wars line is worse than ever before. We hardly get any NEW! product and HasLow is running on low flame. Only their beloved Black Series receives maximum love & attention. Something I will address at Comic Con tomorrow. I'm NOT willing to pay 17,99€ for a Vintage Figure while their "PREMIUM" Black Series figures are sitting on discount for 14,99€ on the exact same shelf!

All of this makes sense to me. I wonder when the contract will run out?
