first and for most, I'm not plugging my business!    :)

I make custom jewelry for jewelry stores. pretty much anything they want.

I noticed there are a lot great builders and mold makers here. I have a cad cam that i use to make jewelry with. Its also 3d scanner. I can put an object in it, scan it, change the size, and then carve it in wood, plastic or wax ( I use wax, then cast into metal ).

starting my first dio this weekend
guess what i'm getting at is that it could be used for making parts for the forum

I've always wanted one of those.

I think it'd be fun to get a life size scanner, scan my head, and then cast a replica figure scale head.  McFarlan did that with the cast of lost to create the figures for his Lost line....

so have you tried doing any figures with it yet?  That'd be the perfect way to get exact duplicated parts for rebuilding complete figures....  man that'd open up so many possibilities...

Very cool tool, great backstory on it as well. 

 One of these would be a welcome addition in my garage for a variety of work.

I used it to scan a plastic flower, then cut it out smaller and cast in gold. Made a pendant out of it for a customer.

It only scans straight down, it does not rotate.

wish it did....

If you ever need some loose gemstones, drop me a line,  I have a ton of cut and graded items stored away in teh bank.

 Those scanners and the more sofisticated ones are simply awesome in what they can do, I saw one of the plastic bed and  laser models cranking out prototype racecar parts and was stunned at the ability it allows for mockups, pricey but I am sure its worth it in the terms of RD costs for that type of industry

If I sent you some fossils could you duplicate them with that?....  that might be beneficial to some research I've been doing... to have a digital 3d representation of each fossil that could be duplicated quickly.

 Nope not a dealer, I just came across a large group a friend had acess to when he was traveling overseas so I bought a bunch, he said it was a good deal,  can't recall where but they come with a liitle card, certifing cut, size, some other things and an apprasial,  As far as what I have,  rbuies, differnt types of saphires, emeralds,and so forth,. I have had them in a saftey deposit box for alomst 10 years but i can easily pick them up and snap a few pics if you want to see them,  there are some other types of stones, opals, topaz, star saphires, alexandrite?  either way I am curious myself now so I may just pick them up Monday after work to look through it,  there is also a block of green jade in there and a white jade buddah carving

sorry I did not get back to you sooner,  busy weekend. lol
(put down tile on fri and sat. and started my first dio on sunday.....yea)
I can scan them going straight down, but the work area in the machine is
4 x 6 inches, so it has to be with in that size

I think some of the flatter ones would make good pendants... I hopefully will be able to collect some more that are in a little better shape than these...
