Poor Man's Display rack
« on: June 19, 2009, 09:11:30 PM »

Made from styrofoam. total cost is about 5 SGD, or 3.5 USD. And that's enough to make racks for both of my bookshelves, total about 16 tiers of racks, each tier can hold about 10-12 figures

Ya know, I did the same with foam board, and you're right, it's cheap, easy, and they display just fine!  Looks nice Jenki!

Looks like it works just fine.  I need to do something like that eventually, and get my figures more displayed and less "crammed in a tub"

actually, when i made this i only thought of using styrofoam, but i realised later when i tried putting my figures its a headache. cause the racks are supported by two stands, about 1/3 from the sides, the weight of figures is actually enough to bend the 1cm thick layer of styrofoam. further more i didnt glue them onto the stands, if i place one figure on one side, i must have another on the other side to counter-balance

i've got one suggestion but i didnt try it though, but coroplasts are a good idea. I think by putting two layers of coroplasts perpendicularly on each other, they make a good supporting platform, just like plywood works by having different layers of wood glued perpendicularly.

coroplast

Nice Job, Jenks! That works great. I like that other material, also.

Good ol' election-time yard signs.  Had no idea what that stuff was called.

Y'know...now I'm starting to wonder about old shipping pallets.  That's some thin wood on most of them.

But I gotta say - my wife is in a ladies' barbershop chorous and this looks like the risers they use...she'll HAVE to make some comment about asking who sings which part if she sees me building and arranging my figs on one of these...
