Try Lemon juice (it's pretty cheap in the bottle) or if that doesn't work look for a taxidermy forum or local shop near you and ask how they get rid of the smell.

For the ball, you may need a very high speed drill maybe a dremel, but with a small fine bit. Something that wont take large bites out of it.

Don't give up yet! it's only the first try. I have faith in you!!

Why go through life base fig, when you can customize?

Send DarthC a PM, he does taxidermy and may have a suggestion for you.

lol that's an option...  of course the krayt dragon had more defined vertebrae than these are... but it could work.

interesting bit of random trivia, the "krayt dragon" skeleton which is seen in the A New Hope scene with C-3p0 waving at the sandcrawler was actually a fossil skeleton of a (I hope I'm remembering this correctly) Pleasiosaur.  The desert in tunsinia (sp?) where they fillmed is littered with dinosaur fossil remains just eroding out of the desert.  I'm sure that particular fossil is long gone, but it was a very very cool background object that lucas utilized.  As a paleontoligist/geologist that's something I always love pausing the movie to look at!

anyways... it'd be a stinky krayt dragon display...  I can't figure out what to do with the stink

I think I've solved the handle issue.  I drilled a hole in a golf ball and it fits perfectly as the topper.  I'll just glue stingray skin over it and you'll never know it was a golf ball underneath...

now if I can just get the rest worked out..

To get rid of the smell, try painting them with a clear coat, pick the tone ie gloss, matte or semi, and try it on one of the smaller pieces.

sooo.,... I left these vertebrae out in the sun in a gallon bucket to air out and get kind of sun-bleached... I came home to find some of them missing and the local feral mutt's chewing on some of the pieces!  :(  I think this project was doomed to fail from the begining...

well... I did get some great stingray skin pieces and used them to add some accents to my watch band, and will probably put some on a pair of gloves I've got.

well.... the cane idea is scrapped though... I just don't have the will-power to finish it.  not to mention I don't realy need a cane after having surgery! yay!

Sorry for the bump, but I've got to say, as a guy that uses a cane himself, this is really inspiring stuff.  I'm so glad I found a community of such supremely creative people!
I have altered the action figure. Pray I don't alter it further.
