The Bitthaevrians
« on: December 22, 2009, 10:58:25 AM »
INFO: The Bitthaevrians are an ancient species indigenous to the harsh world of Guiteica in the Kadok Regions. Their society holds high regard personal combat, and the positions of stature within their culture are dependent upon an individual's ability as a warrior. Physically, it is obvious that the Bitthaevrians are formidable warriors: their bodies are covered in a thick leather-like hide that provides some protection from harm; their elbow and knee joints possess sharp quills which they make use of during close combat. These quills, if lost or broken during combat, quickly regenerate. They also have a row of six shark-like teeth.

The Bitthaevrians have historically been an isolated culture; they are content on their world and generally have no desire to venture among the stars. Most often, a Bitthaevrian encountered offworld is hunting down an individual who has committed a crime or dishonored a Bitthaevrian leader.

RACE: Bitthaevrian
HEIGHT: 1.7 to 2.2 Meters Tall
SKIN: Reddish-Brown, Dark Yellow
DISTINCTION: Thick skin, infrared vision, quills on elbows and knees
LANGUAGE: Guiteica

HOMEWORLD:
Guiteica was the Bitthævrian homeworld. Known as Kadok III-D on most star charts, Guiteica was the fourth planet in the Tertiary Kadok system, and had nine moons. There were sixteen distinct continents of the rugged planet, which was known for its soaring peaks and roaring waterfalls.

Because of its axial tilt, Guiteica had seven seasons each year: Giil, Quul, Aul, Zuol, Tweil, Jael, and Quaal.

As the homeworld of isolationist Bitthævrians, Guiteica has remained mostly separated from political activity in the galaxy. The natives were content keeping their own activities in the Kadok Regions and never joined actively the Old Republic.

However, at least five decades before the Battle of Yavin, the Republic increased their interference in the Kadok Regions, affecting Bitthævrian interests. The Bitthævrians, a warlike species, reacted with a rebellion. The Republic made them look like a galaxy-wide threat and sent an army of Jedi and Kaleesh to annihilate the rebel activity (Both Jedi and Kaleesh were convinced of the "Bitthævrian threat"). Although the Bitthævrians fought to the best of their remarkable skills, they were eventually defeated.

They have since kept an even more isolationist politics, but also a great natural hatred towards the Republic, the Force-users and the Bothans because of their tendency to avoid direct conflict. They understood the Galactic Empire as a corrupt and evil government, but they considered it to be an improvement when compared with the Old Republic; the Rebel Alliance was disliked because they shared ideals and goals with the Republic. Nevertheless, Moff Rhain Towith of Kadok Regions could not imagine how to put Guiteica under Imperial control.

Vulca Minerals tried to perform yttrium mining activities in Guiteica, but the pushy attitude of Vulca officers led to a more aggressive attitude from the m'Yalfor'ac Order. The crisis was witnessed by Vulca officer and later Rebel lieutenant Ayla Shar. Since that crisis, Kadok Resources, a Bitthævrian-controlled operation, managed all of Guiteica's exports.

BIOLOGY AND APPEARANCE:
The Bitthævrians were tall creatures with a muscled body. They had a leather-like skin protecting them from physical damage. The color of that hide was typically sandy pink or a rusty brown, but variations were wide, including tan-colored Bitthævrians living in equatorial areas and dark brown- or black-colored Bitthævrians living in the north.

A Bitthævrian also featured one row of six sharp fangs embedded in the flesh, which can be used in personal combat.

The knees and elbows of Bitthævrians were covered with sharp quills used in personal combat as piercing weapons. The quills were not particularly hard, and they were often broken or lost, but they were constantly replaced. As the Bitthævrian aged, those quills became more resilient and larger.

Bitthævrians vision ranged into the infrared allowing them to see heat sources (such as living beings or recently fired sidearms) in complete darkness.

CULTURE AND HISTORY:
Bitthævrian culture was based on personal combat and fighting readiness. The status of a Bitthævrian was based on his or her personal skill as a fighter, with the greatest warrior becoming the leader of their people.

The leader was absolutely respected. People dishonoring a leader would be chased by Bitthævrians even if they leave Guiteica. Being highly isolationist, Bitthævrians tended to leave only to pursue the most serious offenders.

The personal weapon of a Bitthævrian was commonly the dematoil, a customized morningstar with Bitthævrian joint quills attached to the ball. Every time a Bitthævrian is defeated by another in personal combat, the winner was allowed to take the loser's biggest quill from his arm and attach it to his dematoil.

At least five decades before the Battle of Yavin, the Bitthævrians started a war in protest of Republic interference in the Kadok Regions. Right from the start the Republic played-up the threat posed by the Bitthævrians in order to gain allies to bolster it's increasingly small armed forces.

At length the Republic defeated them with an army of Jedi and Kaleesh. The m'Yalfor'ac Order, one of the biggest Bitthævrian armies, killed several Jedi Knights, but they were eventually defeated.

The Bitthævrians have since hated the Republic as a whole, despising their values and methods; although they are also unhappy with the corrupt and evil Galactic Empire, they considered it to be the lesser of two evils.

Bitthævrians also have felt hatred towards any Force-user, due to the Jedi implication in their defeat, and towards Bothans because the Bothan tendency to mislead, lie and avoid direct conflict is anathema to the Bitthævrian beliefs.

The Bitthævrian planetary defense force, the Guiteica Militia, was rebuilt around 2 ABY, led by Colonel Quaal Tavier Catharius of the m'Yalfor'ac Order as a continental army in l'Quart'a with support from the other fifteen continents of Guiteica. The m'Yalfor'ac Order considered that the Rebel Alliance, as official heir of the Old Republic, was an inherited enemy. However, the use of obsolete equipment and their isolationist tendencies made them a little enemy for the Rebel Alliance, making them more of a headache to Moff Rhain Towith of Kadok Regions.

NAMING CONVENTION:
Bitthævrian naming convention was atypical, with a Bitthævrian having three or four names as follows:

1) The first name of a Bitthævrian was the season when he or she was born. There are seven seasons in Guiteica: Giil, Quul, Aul, Zuol, Tweil, Jael and Quaal.
2) The second name is the family name, which was inherited from the mother's maternal surname.
3) A male Bitthævrian adopted a third name when married: His wife's surname.
4) The fourth name (third in females and single males) was the Bitthævrian's personal name, used normally only as a form of familiar address, by friends, family, and cohorts.
