The Elomin
« on: December 22, 2009, 04:01:08 PM »
INFO: The Elomin were horned humanoids from Elom who lived on the surface of the planet. They were thought by some xenoarchaeologists to be descended from a lost colony of Zabrak who settled Elom in the distant past.

RACE: Elomin
HEIGHT: 1.6 Meters Tall
SKIN: Orange-Brown or Red-Brown
DISTINCTION: Horns
LANGUAGE: Elom

HOMEWORLD:
Elom was a cold and barren desertlike planet that was home to the Elom and Elomin species. The Elom lived in the caves of the A'driannamieq Mountains while the Elomin lived on the surface.

The Galactic Republic
The Galactic Republic first made contact with the Elomin in 132 BBY but with the Eloms only in 50 BBY. Some scientists hypothesized that the Elomin were descended from a lost Zabrak colony. Upon the world's discovery, the Galactic Senate hailed it as a significant find, due to its large deposits of Lommite. Lommite was mined on Elom for use in transparisteel, and was the cause of the first interaction between the Elom and the Elomin. The planet was represented in the Galactic Senate by Rennimdius B'thog Indriummsegh.

Conquest by the Empire
Such a valuable world could not be left to its own devices, at least in the view of the Galactic Empire. After the planet was conquered by Imperial forces, the Elomin were forced to slave away in the lommite mines. Since the Empire had not discovered the cave-dwelling Elom, they were able to help some Elomin escape slavery. This further bonded the two species together. The more technially advanced Elomin worked to sabotage Imperial mining efforts. Many Elomin joined the Rebel Alliance, with the liberation of their homeworld their driving force.

After the New Republic liberated the planet, the two species formed an alliance. Elom was a founding member of the New Republic, represented on the Provisional Council by Verrinnefra B'thog Indriummsegh. The planet was later represented in the New Republic Senate by Rattagagech. During the Thrawn Campaign Elom was near the Borderland Regions, a stretch of space that separated New Republic space from Imperial held portions of the galaxy. This proximity to Imperial controlled territory made the Elomin worried of repeat aggression. They instituted a massive armament program as a preventive measure. Elomin that served in the New Republic military during its early years tended to serve in units composed of just themselves, though this began to subside as the Elomin became more comfortable around other species.

Yuuzhan Vong Invasion
Elom was one of many worlds in the Outer Rim to fall victim to attack by the Yuuzhan Vong. The world's complex series of caves and passages no doubt proved difficult to the invaders.

BIOLOGY AND APPEARANCE:
Elomin are tall, thin humanoids with two distinctly alien features - ears which taper to points, and four horn-like protrusions on the tops of their heads. Though the species considered itself fairly advanced, it was primitive by the standard of the Old Republic, whose scouts first encountered them.

CULTURE AND HISTORY:
The Elomin had no space travel capabilities and had not progressed beyond the stage of slug-throwing weaponry or combustible engines. Blasters and repulsorlifts were unlike anything the species had ever imagined.

With the technological aid of the Old Republic, Elomin soon found themselves with starships, repulsorlift craft and high-tech mining equipment. With these things, they were able to add their world's resources to the galactic market.

Elomin admire the simple beauty and grace of order. They are creatures that prefer to view the universe and every apsect of it as distinctly predictable and organized. This view is reflected in Elomin art, which tends to be very structured and often repetitive, reflecting their own predicable approach to life.

Elomin view many other species as unpredictable, disorganized and chaotic. Old Republic psychologists feared that this pattern of behavior would make them ineffectual in deep space, but the Elomin were able to find confort in the organized pattern of stars and astrogation charts. The only unknowns were simply missing parts of the total structure, not chaotic elements which could randomly disrupt the normal order.

Elom was placed under Imperial martial law during the height of the Empire. The Elomin were turned into slaves and forced to mine lommite for their Imperial masters. Lommite, among its other uses, is a major component in the manufacturing of transparasteel, and the Empire needed large amounts of the ore for its growing fleet of starships.

When the Elomins re-discovered the Eloms, they tried to make the Galactic Republic believe that they were only unintelligent animals. The truth was eventually discovered and Eloms were granted the rights of any other sentient species. However, Eloms seemed not to be interested in politics, and continued to live in burrows. The Elomin rule Elom and represented the planet offworld. However, when the Galactic Empire enslaved the Elomin to work in their own lommite mines, the Eloms staged raids and rescued numerous Elomin from slavery. After their planet was liberated by the Republic, they started integrating their societies together.

Notable Elomin included Verrinnefra B’thog Indriummsegh, a signatory to the Declaration of a New Republic and a member of the New Republic Provisional Council.

Elomin strove to find order in things and worked to create order where none existed. Therefore, they were unable to cope with the unstructured attack of a perfectly executed Marg Sabl maneuver.
