The Aquar
« on: December 30, 2009, 05:50:39 PM »
INFO: The Aquar were a water-breathing near-Human species inhabiting the planet Velusia.

RACE: Aquar
HEIGHT: 1.7 Meters Tall
SKIN: Blue
DISTINCTION: Gill nostrils, water breathing, webbed digits, claws
LANGUAGE: Aquarese

HOMEWORLD:
Velusia was an oceanic planet in the Velus system, not far from the Perlemian Trade Route, and was orbited by two moons.

It was home to a subspecies of Humans known as the Aquar. Scattered, largely volcanic islands jutted from the ocean. The ocean teamed with life such as plankton, algae, and large schools of fish, while the rugged, rocky islands supported lichens and hardy shrubs. The land was unstable, wracked by groundquakes and volcanic activity, and so was of little interest to spacefarers.

Velusia's oceans were rich in suspended ores, although the Aquar had yet to realize this. The Nexcore Mining Corporation (NMC), however, took note of this, and jointly owned the rights to any mineral deposits found on the planet, along with the Aquar. If nothing valuable was found within 40 years, then all profits would be transferred to the NMC. The NMC had discovered this fact, and withheld the knowledge of the ore deposits until the forty years were up.

The only spaceport on the planet was located in Mount Hollow, a shabby community constructed in the shaft of an extinct volcano.

BIOLOGY AND APPEARANCE:
The Aquar were an offshoot of Humans who colonized Velusia thousands of years ago and evolved into their present form. An Aquar typically had blue or green skin covered in fine scales, with webbed fingers and toes which have claws on them, no hair, and large eyes. Aquar had gills on the side of their neck, and a crest on their head.

CULTURE AND HISTORY:
They lived a peaceful life of subsistence on Velusia, harvesting fish and plants from the oceans and raising herd animals on the few above-water mountains.

When scouts from the Nexcore Mining Corporation arrived on Velusia, they assumed the Aquar were natives and used them as cheap labor and supplanted their culture.
