I forget where I saw it, but recently, someone took an old style, anatomically incorrect Stegosaurus like this Playskool "Definitely Dinosaurs" figure and removed the backplates to make a weird, bulbous sci-fi creature and I loved the look.
I just removed the backplates from this and it looks great! The holes where the backplates were plugged into the body (as well as the zig-zag seam where the top of the body halves meet) need to be filled with contour putty and sculpted to resemble the rest of the hide. I am contemplating removing the tail spikes, but haven't decided if I am going to just yet, so for now they are staying.
I haven't figured out exactly what this will be as of yet- domesticated beast of burden (which would require straps/saddle/harness/etc.) or some wild beast, but when I decide, any additional modifications will be made. This as of right now is just a proof of concept.
