scuba mando intelectual custom contest
« on: August 30, 2009, 07:21:38 PM »
ok guys, heres the deal.  Several members have been talking about coming up with a design for a "scuba-mando".  Theres no prize and it's realy not a contest per-say... that's why it's INTELECTUAL.

so the concept is that mandalorians would have specialized armor for different needs and environments, NOT this one size catches all bs that we see from lucas.  This design needs to be a practical and functioning dive suit that still holds true to the mandalorian style of armor.

you don't have to make a custom to be a part of this.  Do a sketch, do a doodle, Photoshop an existing image... whatever! just join in on the conceptual designing process here and by the end of it we should have at least ONE realy good concept piece that one of us customizers can actually build and create.

This is a great idea, Devin, and a great way for all of us to learn from each other. I will play with my parts some more and see what I can contribute.

Here's my 1st crappy contribution. I intend to present more drawings, hopefully with better results.
The spear is rocket powered.

Thanks for looking.

I'll stick true to my rough draft sketch for now and post it.  I haven't had time to draw up some new ones, but I'll get there.

*goes and grabs art supplies....*

ribbit that's awesome.  Completely original too! LOVE it.

rocket powered spear = teh awesomes   ;D

I love the added head lamps!  that is something I would NOT have thought of.  I also realy like the chest armor on the guy, it looks almost "atlantian" if that makes sense.

ok, so this isn't a mando but it's a pretty darn unique custom.  I realy love the backpack.  I think I'm going with it as my design for the scuba mando.  The backpack is one of the jet-trooper backpacks with the spring loaded wings removed.

the hoses look like the hoses from the para-viper gi-joe as well btw.

btw, no this is not mine, it is off e-bay from someone else.

Wow! I like that one. His mods to that backpack work pretty good for this.

Here's another detail I'll toss in - the "aqua-sled."  Divers who need to cover distance usually use some sort of sled so their legs don't tire out.  Mando's have jetpacks - why wouldn't an "aqua-Mando" have a "jetpack" for water travel?  In keeping with the predominant SW motif, it would be smaller & more streamlined than the ones we know, but still immediately recognizable.  I'm thinking a long, slender main body with a single joystick at the rear and two small propulsion units up front.  Maybe even sensor bumps to tie into the HUD in the buy'ce.  One control leaves the Mando an arm free for weapon use.  A couple of heavy harpoon launchers slung under it would be a nice add-on, as well.

been thinking the same thing doc.

BTW I got me a cobra diver today at the local flea market (thanks chris, toyman... if you'll ever freaking join up! he's been lurking as a guest...).  I worked on it tonight, swapped the arms out for a boba votc set of arms.  I also fixed a removable chest piece for him as well.  There is also the backpack/oxygen tanks that came with the diver fig as a backpack as well as a removable piece of back armor that is held on by said backpack right now.  there is of course flippers, and I fit a boba fett belt w/ pouches on it.  I'll get pics of it all in a little bit.  I've got to find some freaking batteries that work for my cammera, my rechargables are no longer holding a charge... oh duh... I can use my boys cammera.... lol

oh yeah and I'm using one of clint's larger sized mando helmets for the helmet base.  I actualy still have three of them suckers left clint! I can't believe I havn't used em...    I'm going to attach some hoses to it and a respirator of some sort too.

oh... back to doc's water sled idea.  There is a corps set at wall-mart that has a realy nice propeller sled in it that would be perfect! I think it'd do the job very well.

alright... i'm off to work on all my goodies I bought today!

Yeah, I was thinking about that CORPS! sled - but trimmed down - when I wrote that.

I think I just figured out what to use for the respirator piece - a 2-1B facepiece!  Yeah, I'm gonna have this sucker totally designed verbally and *then* go into building on him one of these days.  ;D

more photos of my wip scuba mando.  I also got a corps undersea pack today and will be modding that water sled.

I think I'm going to try and redo that respirator... It doesn't mesh well with the helmet.
