AT-AT Heavy Gunner Challenge
« on: May 23, 2016, 05:17:10 AM »
I.M.P.S. AT-AT Heavy Door Gunner Challenge

Taken from Chapter 2 of I.M.P.S. (Gunners start about 13 minutes in)

Reference Images:

I would highly recommend watching the video a few times as it is just fantastic and is hands down my favorite fan film of all time!

Reference Project for additional ideas:

http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=1864.msg39684#msg39684

Ron Hembling completed this 3.75" Project based off the Heavy Door Gunner a few years ago that, in my opinion, epitomizes this character.  I think all can appreciate this

And another in the 12" Scale that is absolutely one of the finest custom projects I have ever seen. Now I don't know that we can expect this level of detail in the 3.75" Scale, but once again a great reference:

Also remember that this challenge is about the Heavy Gunner only, but including a small dio like an AT-AT Doorway with cannon sure does look good eh?

Challenge Parameters:

Create at least one custom action figure of the above character

May 23rd to July 23rd

3.75" in scale

Work in progress images are welcome

Choose 5 images and mark your "Final Contest Entry" for your last post understanding the first image will be the one I will use for the forums poll to vote for the winner.

As always if you have any questions just let me know, but this one is pretty straight forward.

Resources for parts and supplies:

eBay TESB Snow Trooper Link

eBay AT-AT Driver Link

Amazon Snow Trooper Link

Amazon AT-AT Driver Link

If anyone else finds great deals, email or pm me and I can get em up here. Figured that might help some folks out as the Snow Trooper and the AT-AT Driver are probably gonna be the base figures most folks use.

Prizes:

As determined by forums poll once the contest date has ended

1st place - $50 gift certificate to online or retailer of your choice

2nd place - $30 gift certificate to online or retailer of your choice

3rd place - $20 gift certificate to online or retailer of your choice

Paypal gift certificate also in the above denominations also could be your selection

Does it have to be exactly like the pics or can we stray a little, meaning, some of those pics have straps, some don't, can we make our own logo helmet thingie(sorry, I'm not a military expert), or do we have to make one of those exact ones that are in the images? Thanks and already looking at my parts bin( I need to clean up my workshop, DOH).

I hope the designs are really varied. Those are reference images, but I would think there would be slight variations and wide open color schemes and designs.

Cool stuff! I know I say this every time but I may get into this one. I have an idea for a "tropical" version, different from the Hoth/winter that we see. I have most of the parts I need. Actually I have a very rough prototype.

yup yup. Man I love IMPS I wish they'd make more parts but that was filmed...in 2005 i think? Eh well...

BTW fun fact the Relentless is the main ISD used in season 1 of Rebels Admiral Kassius Constantine's ship and is also found in the original Rogue Squadron novel book 1 think.

Ok this is right down my alley, now to decide what type of variation to make.

Yeah, it sure soundes like him to me too. Love it. I watched it three times yesterday, especially the opening scene.
