Star Destroyer Bridge Project
« on: July 15, 2016, 05:30:10 AM »
So my star destroyer project is coming out very nicely. I laid it out so there is room for both “pits”. This means the window needs to be large enough for the pits to fit in front of the Window. Also had to make sure the window openings were large enough to seem in scale with the figures.
The “Pits” are ready to be printed and made. The designs are good and were not difficult to design.
The window is a lot more complicated. Not sure if the perspective of the image is realistic or some sort of “fisheye lens Effect” I have modeled the window to be straight up and down. I can always change its orientation towards the end once all of the other details have been finalized.

Expect a major update next week with some pieces already 3d printed.

The Executor's bridge?
Now that's a drool-worthy diorama.

Thanks, most of the preliminary work has been done, just a matter of sending it to the printers.
At the current size the window will be about 30 inches wide and will be printed in 2 pieces.
I am going to go ahead and take the risk to have it printed at a service that specialize in larger prints. Lets keep our fingers crossed!

So I have been working on ISD V 0.5. I had 2 smaller pieces ordered so I could get a sense of scale and to figure out how much of a slant the walls needed to be as well as how much of a curve I should add to the windows.
Also I wanted to make sure I was happy with the design. I wanted to make sure that I would be able to easily glue and sand the pieces together before I had to do it on a much larger piece. It is very difficult to go from the computer straight to building with out something to put your hands on. I needed to see the pieces so I could gauge how the curve of the windows would work. I carved some pieces of wood and used sticky putty to place them temporarily. I will now go ahead and create curved inserts that I will print and later glue them in to place once I am happy with how they look. I also realized that the curve and size of the window meant many different angles to model so I decided that to move forward I would have to order the entire window (ISD V1) in order to properly design the curved pieces and slant for the windows. (I got it Already and it looks AWESOME! HUUUGE! BUT AWESOME)  I also needed to finalize the wedged computer consoles attached to the windows. The curved pieces for the window and wedged computer consoles once finalized will be added to the model and will be printed seamlessly together as one piece in the end. I will call this future version ISD V 2.0 since it will have all the improvements of the earlier versions seamlessly incorporated in to something that will be printed in just two huge pieces with very little work left to do but painting. I have already received ISD V 1.0 and expect to complete it entirely in about 3 weeks. Once its completed I expect to finalize model and if any one is interested ISD V 2.0 will be  available shortly after. Next Update on Thursday On here or my facebook depending which is easier for me to get to. Hope you enjoy the ride.
