Venom Prime aka Agent Grendel.
« on: December 26, 2016, 10:36:38 PM »
Hello folks, this is my first post here after posting for a year or so on RS.  This site seems more focused on customs which is becoming a new interest of me.  Below is my first custom job, modding various Jedi's with the Outland Anankin in-arm saber.  My kid loves em, and I expect to mod all force users as such (and maybe match up the arms a bit with the characters):

Also, I am working on an Army of Mandos which will be based on three figures- Legacy Clone Pilots, Corscant Attacks Padme, and 2011 CW Kenobi (on the way).

Plus working on some custom vehicles.   I am in Parts Unknown, so I have to work pretty hard to get the goods I need and ships are darn near impossible without paying out the nose and other places.

This now has several double peg bases mounted in it, so the unit can hold 12 figures securely with lots of room to spare.

I just started playing with the local equivalent of Instant Mold and Miliput and the results have been better than expected for my first cast.  I will ask for help in another thread.

Cheers!

Glad to see you here. Off to share your first customs post.

I do like those arms in sabers. Remind me of my vintage playdays.

Next up, The Dark Lord of the Sith (forget about the others!) with MacQ Concept helm:

Body: Rebels Vader, Arm: Outland Ani, Cape: Donor Bootleg Vader, Head: Miscast of Rebels Vader Head.  My son took the head off of his first Rebels Vader one too many times, and eventually lost it.  I worked up a Instant Mold/Milliput cast of another, but I got greedy and broke it open a bit too early.  It was still too soft, but after a bit of pinching and pulling it turned out pretty groovy!  It needs a bit more TLC on grill and eyes.

And the blue saber?  It is an underknown fact that when Sith lose their heads, their sabers turn blue.

Cheers

Welcome to the shipyards. I like these in arm lightsaber figures, they're like a throwback of the old vintage Kenner figures. They're pretty cool. It's also great your  kid likes them too.

For the life of me I don't understand why at least the Rebels line does not feature in arm sabers.  It would be a nice change of retail pace, and believe me, the lost saber issue is pretty much out the window.

After somewhat succeeding with a two part mold of a Rebels Vader peg head two nights ago (this was my second cast from the mold):

I decided to attempt a three part mold with a still in production Mando helm (with sight). This helm is a bit tricky as it is tulip shaped so it is one big cut. Molds with this material need to be constructed not poured. I have been using a lego box as well:

It turned out fairly ok actually! The only issue was the plug inside got stuck, but that was easy to solve, just heat it. It did destroy the mold, but I think I was a bit too rushed putting it together. I will work on a reusable mold tonight. If that doesn't work, I will stick to the normal Mando helm (which is not tulip shaped).

No sight would be even easier to mold, maybe just a two part mold.

These materials are really impressive. They have some limitations, but I can already see some workarounds for those.

Love the "vintage" look of the arm-in sabers. Fun concept.

The good thing about the Oyumaru material is that it is reusable. For example, I felt the third part of the Sabine 3 part mold was not good enough, so I just recast that part of the mold very easily(with the same piece), at the same time I spot molded pouches, holsters, and chest and gauntlets in seconds. I did end up using too much molding materials on several parts, which resulted in me using too much casting material (too thick), but they are easily redone or use less material.

Filled, again most with too much material for their purpose

And the morning after (still slightly pliable after 7 hours)

And now trimmed up a bit and glued on. There was more trimming and adjustment later as well (gotta be careful of cramping the articulation).

I consider these my "Alpha" versions, still not ready for primetime, but getting there. Also, I just took delivery of a Saga Legends Jango, so I have some male removable armor and such, time to see if they are compatible with the Clones and Padme (who has lost her nose a few times to spite her helmet).
