Latest WIP; Humpbacked gunship using sheet styrene and ARC-170 wing/engines....
Started with realizing I've lost, and likely threw away one of the ARC engine cowl covers for the front, then I tried to fit easter egg shells on the front, they're too large for the engines...then I spied my old halloween eyeball ping pong balls... decided to cut them in half...presto they fit nearly perfectly! Had to do some trimming and making slots for the wing tabs but they look hilarious now
First mock up of main structure; well.. only the canopy was not glued to it.
I never planned to have the "cheeks" end so that the nose panel would be rectangular..a happy coincidence!
Rear quarter view of gunship hull the first time around.
view of basic structure.
Decided I didn't like that the poor pilot couldn't see anything below his line of sight....
SO I decided to flip it around, and sliced off a section off the rear sloped panels to make room for the engine/wing box to go on..
Much better..more... battle-ready looking.

glued the two X-wing canopies on, and the first pair of X-wing cannons
Added doors, landing gear, and 2nd pair of X-wing cannons.. hinge arms and landing pads are from the MPC TIE Interceptor kit.
Built the wing/engine joining box; the rubber band and carabiner are for holding the wings as tight to the box until glue dried.
Almost done; the thing looks pretty good as is...but the engine area looks rather...sparse.
Detailing galore! Used parts from my junk model bin... car engine parts, exhaust tubing, SKDFZ 18 pieces, 1/72 scale Jagdpanzer engine deck; Flak-37 pieces, X-wing rear panel, and R2 dome cut from the X-wing kit. All that remains.... super thin sheet plastic for raised panels, and then paint work. Fiancee thinks I should keep the "eyes" on it and add shark mouth somehow just for the effect.... Speaking of eyes... I have not yet seen such an effect done on Y-wing engine pods?
