I hit the local WalMart like an Anglo-Saxon raiding party!

1x sheet foamcore to try out making a wall & floor or two
2x sheets of Foamies to cut into detail shapes
1x Rust-o-leum gray primer for basecoating figs
1x Krylon Metallic Blue for making really awesome droids
1x 3-sheet set stencilling blanks for making painting masks
1x 300ct box of craft sticks, 6"x3/4"x1/16" for raw material
1x locktite superglue
1x ANH wave Kenobi to put his table to work in an upcoming dio
1x Quarren Warrior for his BAD part, to work on James' Marvel Comics unnamed astromech

Also, the craft section had a styrofoam set designed and marketed as a "shadowbox/diorama builder" set.  5 pieces that go together to make what looks like a styro shoebox.  It has a floor that measures 6"x15"x1", a back and ceiling which both measure 6"x15"x1/2", and two ends that measure 6"x7.5"x1/2" - cost was $5.  I saw it an *immediately* thought "quickie Hoth medical bay dio"!  I may shoulda bought it right then, since I already have pretty much everything I need to build it on hand.   ;D

And I managed to remember "pillage" comes *before* "burn"!

Sounds like you got the bug, doc.
I remember seeing that same set!! I may have to go looking for that one.

What about the brush on paint, doc? you do use a brush every once and a while, right?

I know, i am not much of a sprayer, am I? Except on chili night, that is.

Actually, these projects are learning projects for me - I *normally* use a brush!  You'll see brushwork on my projects soon enough, I guarantee.  I'm holding this scrubber-droid and looking at the details that I'll have to put in by brush.

I think while I wait on the primer to cure on 4LOM tomorrow, I'll be working on cleaning my monster desk off so I can move it out to the shop.  Then I'll be able to sit down and WORK!!   ;D

Hobby Lobby has a good sale going this week, if you need jewelry-making or train details.   ;)

Well, *I* have spent much of today with an assortment of paintbrushes in my hand as I've worked on my Sniper Squad.  Early this morning, I started by trying to remove the brown deco from a Cmdr Faie, first by alcohol & Q-tip, then by alcohol and xacto blade-flat, then just by blade-flat.  Talk about UGLY.  Then I tried to paint over the places with Testors Brilliant White.  That MIGHT have worked, eventually, but it looked bad at the outset so I opted to cover it  some other way.  In the end, I think I did ok, as y'all will see when I post more pics.  Got three of the four cloaks done and the other is 75% done.  Getting close!!

Ok, I have two questions for our two gurus,

One, seriously, when is the best time to spray paint to avoid sticky results?  I live in KY, so I'm thinking 3 in the AM might be the best time, considering humidity and all that, lol.

Two, how do you guys get so much time for customizing?  I'm lucky if I get an hour of free time.  Then again, I'm lucky in that I have a computer in the same room I play with my kid in, so at least I can surf the board< :)

Ummmmmmmmmmmm I'm not much of a rattlecan guru but the humidity would be a killer for spraying. Ever considered getting a dehumidifier?  It isnt really humid enough here for it to be a problem but it might where you are at. I go for the heat of the day to accel the drying time. Also, I soak my cans in warm water to pre warm the paint and to give the can more pressure. That's just what I remember as I haven't sprayed in a long time.

Two, how do I have so much time to customize?

I'm Temporarily unemployed, have no kids, have lots of toys laying around, don't spend time in bars, wake up at 4:30 am, what else am i going to do with my time.

I watch the local humidity and spray when its low.

They either hang over me and watch or help or "help" most of the time.  I'm also currently unemployed.

After putting  some swminis on ebay (see my ebay sales topic), I'm trying to work on the Falcon Bay level. So many ideas, but no materials  :-\

Like ever, I'll make what I can with what I have. Give me a bed, and I make a Tie rack, give me a cabinet and I make a full DS level  ;D
