Mattel "Jurassic World" Roarivores Sinocertops Review:

Part of Mattel's inaugural "Jurassic World" releases is an assortment known as "Roarivores" which feature large articulated dinosaurs with button activated electronic roaring and action features. These dinosaurs come in open boxed packaging allowing customers to try out the action features and hear the roars.

The Sinoceratops I am reviewing today is the sole new release in Wave 3 and the final entry in the Roarivores subline for 2018.

The Sinoceratops shares much in its overall design with the Wave 1 Triceratops (which has been carried forward in Waves 2 and 3 resulting in the Triceratops being the most commonly seen Roarivore on the pegs). The articulation is the same: 4 ball hinge hips (shallow lateral movement) and a button activated ball hinged neck. The button activated action feature is well designed and the sounds are quite loud and very clear.

The deco on the released figure is duller than the more vibrant prototype but still works well for a large dinosaur. The figure is cast in a dark green plastic with very tiny flecks of darker green in the plastic. There are several bone-colored marking across the majority of the dinosaur along with some burnt orange markings on the frill. The various spikes and horns along with the beak are painted a deep, rich grey. The paint apps are neat and clean.

There is a bit of controversy concerning the species name for this toy. The original prototype was labled as a "Pachyrhinosaurus", which is the correct name for the species depicted. The blind bagged "Mini Action Dino" is still called a Pachyrhinosaurus on the enclosed checklist. Somewhere along the way, Mattel renamed this toy "Sinoceratops".

The dinosaurs in this assortment are quite a good buy for their $14.99 price ($11.97 at Walmart- which is where I picked this one up). They are large, well articulated and deco'd, and have a fun action feature that does not interfere with the regular posability of the toy.
