Custom Painted BARC Speeder w/Sidecar
« on: August 21, 2019, 10:06:49 AM »
This is a new project I've taken up and couldn't pass on. I managed to snag one of these bad boys for about $9.00 with shipping. I'm going to weather it in a similar process to my AT-ST and will share my progress on here as I get into the painting process. Waiting for it to arrive in my mailboox now. I'll also have a custom BARC trooper to go with it...might turn him into a commander. He's the yellow BARC Trooper from the Order 66 Jedi two-pack.

This is an example of the vehicle I'll be working on:

Steps:
1.) Disassembly to remove wheels/weird parts.
2.) Super gluing the entire thing together, using putty on seams/screw holes, and sanding.
3.) Paint application and weathering
4.) Sealing paint with application of mod podge to prevent paint wear/rubbing.

I'm looking forward to following your progress! Thank you for sharing the steps you follow! I'm currently working on two repaints of an AT-RT and a BARC Speeder. So filling the screw holes is definitely one interesting add before repainting. So thank you so much for that great advice!

You're welcome, Philipp. It's the simple things that make a big difference. Also making sure wash gets into paneling lines, to give the impression of wear and tear. Imperfection is the name of the game. If you ever want tutorial videos of people I learned to paint from, let me me know

I need to re-do the Colonial red markings on the front, but this is what I have so far.

You know what? I flippin’ LOVE this Speeder! I had no clue in which direction you were going to take this bad boy and I really like the design!
I mean this could’ve been a space pirate Speeder or something, too...
Awesome choice of colors - great paint job so far!

Seeing the modified BARC Trooper on his BARC Speeder makes me bark myself in excitement! I might sound silly, but I’m not exaggerating here! I love this project! Plain awesome, mate!
That’s all I gotta say. Thanks! For sharing.

Shows you what this vehicle can really become. Wow, it really looks great. I really like the Trooper too. Off to share.

I really like the standard worn/damaged look this has. The color scheme is in typical Republic colors.

Which paints did you use for the Republic Red and Grey, then? They look spot on!

I kind of color matched and experimented to get the colors right.

Essentially, your mix for the Republic armor grey is like 75% white/25% black.

As for the red, it's about 65% brown, 35% red.

I use acrylic liquitex paint.

I really like the worn look too. Personalizes it up a bit. I dream of one day doing a walker like this (really pitted and battled) and perhaps do some custom nose art on it (probably a clear sticker transfer).

Right with you on that. I really wish I could get my hands on the vintage Republic gunship. But for $600 per gunship, that's never going to happen.

We need to make sure on our next round of ask Hasbro we ask if we can get a rerelease or a new gunship. What in your opinion was the best one?
