First Black Series HasLab Project
« on: June 12, 2021, 06:43:35 AM »
So, were are getting the next HasLab in the Black Series and its not going to be a vehicle so we are left with playsets and or beasties. What do you think it is gonna be? Keep in mind the anniversary of ROTJ is soon too.

I keep hearing rumors of the Rancor and they could do some cool things with that and maybe even do a palace playset on top of it so you could drop some poor unfortunate Gammys down. Not to mention if the book of Boba is used as inspiration. Man, could you see Boba on the Throne with his gal and her booze?

If I am thinking over the top I would love to see the Imperial Platform on Endor as that would mean we might be able to get a Walker and Shuttle down the road. I just keep thinking why in the heck would you not make the first 6" HasLab a vehicle? I mean there are so many needed in this scale and lets face it would Hasbro ever make a Walker without it being a HasLab Project too?

Im thinking rancor myself. Remember a couple of years ago at one of the cons or fairs, hasbro built that jabbas palace dio? The thing had more custom figures than actual produced figures. So now we're getting bib fortuna and we had rotj boba fett come out recently. I think it was a foreshadowing without revealing anything specific. But i mean it could be anything. AT-ST would make the most practical sense, being it's tall rather than wide. I think that would be a good, but expensive main line vehicle

@JDeck: I thought of the same thing! SDCC 2017 was a huge inspiration and Hasbro was not sparing with any expenses on their massive diorama setup for The Back Series. This showed how much passion they actually have for the 6 inch line. Sky is the limit is what they kept saying and their booth was proof for that!

Anyway...I'm excited!

Yeah, I think one day the AT-ST will probably get built (probably the next anniversary of TESB or something along those lines). Its not too huge to be out of the range like a Walker (man that has got to be a HasLab top tenner).

For this time out still thinking ROTJ and you make some good points about figures being released that would definitely work with it. I can gaurantee you if it is a Rancor they will release a special figure or three as campaign goal unlocks.

What would be really cool is a Rancor Pit to go with and then have the dias somehow fit on top of it all. I don't know that I have ever seen those two environments put together (the Pit and the Dias). Man it would be huge in the six inch scale. Surely it would just be more than a Rancor though.

And does anyone think they would do some type of dio or set piece?

Very glad its TBS this time. Just hope it isn't like $200-$300 or w/e I'm not trying to sound cheap just tired of Hasbro making customers over pay for stuff that should be regular release products. Just look at the barge it was/is soo overwhelmingly received that it could have easily been a mass release product (maybe not brick an mortar). The whole game of scarcity is killing the IP it's been past a point that only the  die-hard-disposable-income-nerd or  flipper/resaler can get any of the stuff. The only caveat with haslab is its preorder availability.

I think for sure you can count on this one being the four to five hundred dollar range at least. If its 6" in scale, I can also see them upscaling the prices too.

I can see a lot of people pulling for a Death Star Playset. Now that would be cool. I can't even imagine the size it would be, but thats what I think would be cool for HasLab, you try out a huge project to see if it could get funded.

I mean HasLab is just their version of kickstarter right? Why not shot for the clouds?

Hasbro finally shares some more insight of the HasLab Rancor in their Fan First Friday livestream on YouTube, which is dedicated solely to the Rancor! They also revealed the first tier goal for this project:

The actual presentation begins at 9:55

Heard a rumor that the scale was going to be off in a smallish way.
Besides, after the razor crest being pushed back, I’m thinking of giving Haslab some cautious discretion for a bit.

I nabbed one. Bet it gets unlocked and we get some even better stretch goals.

The way I figure it is if we don't support these things our choices and the amount of time between releases will get sparser and sparser.

And I am always here to put a bug in Hasbro's ear about the projects we want.

Like a Death Star Playset or Jawa Sandcrawler or Star Destroyer or AT-AT. Heck even an AT-ST would work, but I would think that would work in their regular line and wouldn't need to be crowd funded.

Did everyone see the front page news about the second unlock yesterday?

https://hasbropulse.com/collections/haslab/products/star-wars-the-black-series-rancor

We get some bones. It was at 5, 107 when I looked yesterday and is down to 5,095 today.

I am beginning to think this one won't get backed unless they really announce some fabulous unlock or something, even then I think its gonna be close.

I just don't think it is large enough in this scale to be honest. It looks off to me. And a cardboard insert? Man, pretty cheap for what you are putting into this.

Even if tier 3&4 are the coolest things ever, it still has to reach that point. It doesn't look good. I think it's over priced and people are hoping the unlocks will make up the difference, but it wont.

I agree, just reading the comments about the Rancor and its Tiers on YakFace and JTA. I wasn't interested in the Rancor from the beginning and even if I had the money and space, I wouldn't buy it. I think it's a cool sculpt, but way too expensive compared to previous products like the Snowspeeder.
The Black Series is a cool line and it's more than justified that TBS fans finally got their chance at a HasLab project. It's even available through Zavvi in the UK and therefore available in the rest of Europe, but import fees included (thanks to BREXIT) it'd cost me about $540. I rather buy TVC figures and vehicles for that money...or have my car repaired. lol
Which vehicles by the way? Merrick's X-Wing is hard to get here in Germany. And I'm still waiting for the Bespin Cloud Car to join the Vintage Collection...

Anyhew I'm quite optimistic that the Rancor will happen adding all the pre-orders from Europe at the end. It'll even reach the first 2 Tiers, which are extremely lazy for a premium project like HasLab imo. As you say, it's just overpriced and the additional goodies they've come up with are rather an insult already than ridiculous. However I think the Gam Guard is really cool! It has always been hard to get and was 60€/$75 alone on the bay here in Germany. I wish we got a sub-line with POTF coins for TVC as well. Hasbro will hopefully see that their "bread and butter" line hasn't got the strongest, most enthusiastic fans. So I'm watching this HasLab with a grin while customizing more for 3.75". Cheers!

Today I looked again and its 5,106.

I think this one is gonna fail. They are just approaching it too complacently.

I will be honest when I first heard it was the Rancor I thought huh, that was probably something they could have pulled off in the regular line. When I saw how small it was for the scale I thought even more so.

I was hoping for a larger vehicle, something you know would be too big and too much cost for the regular black series line. Like a Walker, and not a scout walker either. This should have been a huge over the top type of thing that you would never see again offered and you know would never make regular retail again.

That being said, I am still backing it. I have a feeling if this fails we may not see a new Star Wars HasLab offering for a long time.

Hasbro might think of 3.75" when it comes to vehicles. Many fans claim 1/18 scale is the heritage scale and made to interact with vehicles. I still see a chance that The Black Series will at least get the AT-ST. BUT one thing is really interesting when you think about it:
There are SO MANY other mid-size vehicles that Hasbro could have added to the 6" line BEFORE the Snowspeeder like the Bespin Cloud Car or a Jedi Starfighter. And they must be aware that people would call for the AT-AT then because the Snowspeeder interacted with it. They also included Dak, which makes it SPECIFIC to that scene. Instead, they could've also just released Zev's Snowspeeder to recreate the "search for Luke".

So now we're talking walkers: LEGO is going to unleash the UCS AT-AT at the end of the month. With $800 MRSP it's one of their most expensive sets of all time. So I wonder what Hasbro would charge for it. I was looking for a reference picture, but my old computer is broken. Many pictures got lost. Didn't find any complete AT-AT on google, but I remember that hemble made parts of it in 1/12 scale. YakFace shared a head of it by Brandon Flores.

Speaking of vehicles I'm tempted to back the G.I. Joe Skystriker for 250€ instead...I think it provides much more value for the money and has got way cooler stretch-goals.
