I was excited that Hasbro was making a ROM Spaceknight figure. Not so existed when it was part of an SDCC exclusive bundled with a bunch of other figures. At $100+ for that one figure on the secondary market, you make your own! So here's my ROM figure. The base body is Silver Surfer as he's already a figure "blank" and silver as a bonus!  Now I had to do a lot of grinding down the body and neck as he has that forward pointing hunched neck thing going on. Cut and glued the fingers more closed so he could hold his weapon. The body is a 3D printed shell that encapsulates the torso. ROM has a body design that actually makes this possible more so than other characters would. The waist area has sculpted on ridge detail and needed some build up to match the body. The feet had some sculpting mods to them. Note, this is the original version of ROM, not the reboot version Hasbro made.

That looks great! Are you going to put a ROM conversion kit on your website? :D

Wow, what a great custom. I have a few old comics of ROM. I remember him having to deal with Galactus.

Off to share on the front pages.

Nah, this one was just for me. And a LOT of mods were needed to make it work.

Picked up a CORPS multi pack at Ollies for $6 simply for this Robo Dog. With a little bit of paint and a bunch of line work, it improved the look ten fold.

The robo-shepherd looks great! I can totally get how the ROM conversion could be a challenge.

Holy crap, Batman, that ROM figure is awesome.  I remember a friend had the original 10"-12" one from the early 80s.  And yeah, the one that came out with the Joes lines are stupid expensive.  Excellent work!

As a kid I only had two Battlestar Galactica figures. The Cylon and the Dagget. Of course like most kids, the tail broke off fairly quickly. Years later (before I even attempted a custom figure) I sold off the Cylon. Well since its A) "Star Wars adjacent" and B) a robot, I decided I needed a more articulated one. So I looked for the worst and cheapest beater I could find seeing as the torso and head were all that was needed. Picked one up for $5 at a show.

The entire figure was a little out of scale so I needed a beefy donor for the arms and legs. Vader seemed the best bet and already black. Now the trick with figures is the pins and pivots are often different so I like to try and keep both halves of a joint when possible. I opened up the Cylon torso and ground out the glue posts. I then hacked apart the Vader leaving a ground down torso pivot that would fit up inside the Cylon shell. I did the same with the arms, dremeling a grove around the torso pivot that would be locked in place by the Cylon shell.

After gluing on a soft goods skirt, I glued the torso together. The belt, calf armor, and bicep bands are cut styrene glued in place. My biggest gripe is the one leg seems longer than the other. Never understood how something like that gets to the production stage. Maybe someday I'll make a rifle for him.

Wow Raylen, that turned out great! It looks just like the original, but I love that its articulated. Now the Cylons can terrorize the Star Wars universe. Truth is, I was thinking about doing something similar (having already done an Adama figure), so now I have an excellent tutorial for it :)

The Cylon kicks ass.  Awesome use of Vader, and lord knows there are plenty of those kicking around.

That's a very cool retro Cylon figure. Great mash up of parts to make that come together! Think you should try tackling a Cylon ship at some point.
