Raylen's Dioramas
« on: December 04, 2021, 11:24:59 AM »
I sold this one off about a year ago. We moved and it was designed for a shelf at our old place. Plus, this was before I got into making diorama parts and kits. It used Frank Diorio's decals. I had LED Christmas lights bundled in between levels. Never got much done on the surface and never finished the med-bay bunk.

That was a nice dio. I'm curious to see how you would build the same scene now.

This was my most recent dio. Its a little difficult to see the details in the alcove with the reddish door. Would little to add lights at some point. Nothing seems to be quite enough. Archways, red door, white doorway, and control panels are all available from Hole in the Ground Productions.

That looks great. I like the red doors. What are the columns made from?

Very nice diorama pieces there! Are you going to add some panels for texture to the floor of your last one? I think the walls look superb! Can't get more starwarsy than that! Thanks for sharing and thank you for joining this forum!

Here's my Star Tours diorama. Originally I wanted to more closely duplicate the layout from the ride itself but the control tower would be roughly from where the viewer would be looking, so had to take artistic license. Main construction is wood, along with PVC, sheet styrene, some kit bashed parts, 3D printed parts, and some crates and door from Hole in the Ground Productions http://www.holeinthegroundpro.com/dioramas.html

I have lights installed but the ones in the overhead gantry weren't getting enough power so I cut em. The control room lights up along with a few wall lights. If you've been on the ride, there are conveyors moving stuff around overhead so I included that idea at the back. I even cut one the the crates so it appears to be going "through" the wall. The crane for the gantry slides back and forth and the claw pivots. It's designed to be able to hold the R2 figure outside the Starspeeder.

That looks absolutely amazing. It totally captures the ride. The conveyors are great and the cut crate was an excellent idea to convey motion. I'm impressed!

About time I start working on some of my own projects again. Here is the Death Star Tractor Beam Chasm. I considered going higher So I could add another doorway and ceiling greeblies to double as the chasm "swing" scene but I have a specific shelf it needs to fit on. The walls, doorways, bridge "stubs", Tractor Beam Generator, and the two "thingys" in the background are all sold through Hole in the Ground Productions. I then added the support tubes and bridge (which can lift out). Painted wood base and frames to hold the walls in place. Unfortunately no way to have a matte painting that can work from all angles!  So the plain black makes it more like a piece of art.
