Store Exclusives
« on: January 26, 2022, 04:02:39 AM »

So this is what I am left with after hitting refresh about a thousand times on the Target Exclusive TVC Fett that came out yesterday.

So the price point of 20 bucks aside this is how it went for me. I got on there a little after the release time 1pm and it said sold out. I took a special break yesterday and had someone cover for me so I could do this. Needless to say I was ticked.

Then, I get a message from a buddy that it evidently hadn't even started selling yet and was now up for order. So, I got a buddy to cover again and actually did see the preorder button, but when I clicked it it said preorders sold out.

I get home from work and see images on social media where folks had ordered 99 at one time! Ugh!

And then I see the image above this morning and feel like I am just about done with collecting. I know that is me just being angry, but are store exclusives gonna spell the doom of collecting as we knew it. I mean the pegs aren't full ever in my area, you have to count on online to be able to get an order in if you want it.

I know it is just me venting, but man I think if someone offered me an even remotely interesting price for my collection today I think I would sell and just be done with the frustration.

How do we solve this? I have a few ideas, but would love to know what you think.

Damn that sucks, everyone talks about how bad walmart is, but Target is worse.
I thought the figure was way overpriced, so I'm surprised there was such a mad rush to buy it. I don't see what is deluxe about this figure. I spent a lot on army builder stuff this week so I was in no mood to pay 20 for something that should be 14.

The next Q&A we need to ask about the boba fett tax.   It seems to me that all of the new Boba Fett figures with Tameura Morrison headsculpt costs $6 more than it should. The last TVC TBOBF figure was 26 and some change when the similar boxed walmart deluxe sets were 20.  Id like to know why.

I hate exclusives. I think bottom line, Hasbro really doesn't care because they know we will still buy their products regardless.

It's still profit for them regardless of who get's it and that's the sad truth.

I'm sure the answer we'll get about the Boba tax will be something along the lines of "a premium quality figure for a fan favourite character"

I say the more we can challenge and question the better. I love Boba Fett but I didn't order the Hasbro 6" BS one that's coming out. I figured if I was gonna spend that much $ on a figure, I may as well get the Bandai SHF version.

I will be sure to ask this if they ever let me ask questions again.

The big speeder bike.

By now I'm confident that some people use bots to buy those exclusives and regular releases when they go up for sale or pre-order. It happens with the latest sneakers and also with collectables such as Star Wars action figures. It's a shame. A pre-order should never sell out. Don't know if TARGET and Walmart have a bot-protection. I doubt it. StarActionFigures in the UK for example have and cancel all orders that are fishy.
It seems many people jumped on the train and invest in LEGO and also Hasbro Star Wars nowadays...

Philipp you may be onto something.

I just wish they would be ready to go when they say they are. I mean if 1pm is the time frame and we have to make special concessions at work to get that time slot available at least try to have it ready to go.

At this stage I am left wondering if I would be better off ordering from Hasbro Pulse UK and then trying to find a shipping company to send it over after its packed well.

Tamer: That might indeed be an option. If you need anything from Europe, I could also get it for you.

Meanwhile SmythsToys here in Germany has the deluxe TBOBF Boba Fett up for pre-order for about half the price the Vintage Collection version is offered on ebay...he's supposed to be available here in Summer. And I hope they'll keep offering TVC. The Vintage Collection also deserves a new vehicle this year.

You couldn't prove to me that anything dropped yet except for the Bespin Guards. I was able to get each of those, but never did see the other three drop. Guess I could have missed it later as who has time to spend all day waiting on walmart.com's website!

They were pretty much walmart app exclusives, especially the Stormtrooper. They showed up on the Walmart app long before the site. Even when the site went live it said try again later when trying to add to the cart. Such a mess. I did manage to get both bespin guards and 2 gunners.

Its just crazy that now that you have to go through this nonsensicle webiste or app or whatever and then you know daggone well they ain't gonna ship em right anyhow. I am telling you each time they have problems like this collectors start leaving the hobby.

Never really bought much from WM website (not figures anyway). Was able to find the Bespin guards in stock. Nadda on the Stormtrooper. I mean, not that I NEED more stormtroopers but I do appreciate the correct OT boot and ankle. Saw the Death Star Droid and although I have two or three of the BAD one already and didn't need a repaint which in a couple minutes could make myself, it was a good price. Now, I'm generally an opener but something about the card art made me think about keeping it on card.  It didn't occur to me that WM has a bad rep on shipping figures. Yep, sure enough I got a bent up card in a bubble mailer.

Seriously they don't care. Hasbro doesn't care either. As long as big retailers like WM and Target buy in bulk, they will continue to praise their "retail partners". Whether most of us can even get our hands on the product, get it intact, or have to jump through hoops. I'm at the point there's only so much effort I'm going to put into the hobby. I'm not going online at a certain specific day and time, keep hitting refresh, maybe have a  CHANCE to place a preorder for a product they MIGHT randomly arrive in a year, or next week, or in a month, and then hope the order doesn't get cancelled. And the $20 something TVC "deluxe" Boba Fett? Hasbro can bite me. I'm not playing that game. The hobby just isn't "fun" anymore, even if we get some nice figures. The fun was walking into a store "What will they have today?" And if they didn't have something new, good chance they might next week. Now we're fighting just to preorder things based on computer renders. SMH

SMH pretty much sums up the way I feel about em now too.

I guess April 6th we will see what new store exclusives we get this week.
