Back to Jabba's Palace
« on: June 23, 2024, 02:24:27 AM »
Hi Yarders  :)

Good to be back and dio making again.
I want to redo some things I've build before with a big challenge : only a small room (12 m2, average height 1,85 meter), either workshop and showroom.

I started yesterday with Jabba's palace.

I don't want to limit myself to just one scene at a time, so Death Star and Chalmun's cantina are planned and topics will be created . Mixed pleasure  0/

Hey, welcome back Darth Revenge!

Your concept looks great so far! The ground structure seems to have the exact dimensions and the arches look superb! It's awesome to see you back and I can sense your motivation of starting multiple projects at the same time! Sky is the limit when it comes to ideas for Star Wars dioramas.

I use an old map from SW technical, an rescale it with Jabba's dai as a reference (from the Vintage Collection, the real vintage from kenner is a little bit larger).
I needed to modify it because of the lack of available space for working and displaying. The last done in 2013, space let me turn around it, it's now impossible. So I "cut" it in 60*40 cm parts max.
Edit : Added attachment of the floor plan I used in 2013.

This looks really good so far. This is an ambitious project and it will be fun to watch it shape up.

After a "good day at work", I spend a few moment on the arch.
I want to give a curve effect to this thing, more movie accurate... Not as good as I want   bbfet
Maybe the right way is to curve directly.

Telling by the steps and the arch, you did some fine cuts there! This setup looks absolutely accurate compared to the movie. Brilliant work-in-progress here. Thanks for all the updates!

Today :
Made a table inspired by the one on Nevarro Cantina Playset, this table takes place behind the BBQ. Wrong measurements on the table, I won't have to do another, so I made changes on the back alcove.
I used heated foam pieces (5mm , and 3mm for the top).

Beginning of painting front structured parts of the stairs.
Making doors beside the BBQ, trying ceiling, pillars for ceiling,  holes in the ceiling for lightning.

I spent a lot of time on this f******g arch... If nobody knows, hot glue burns fingers  EL
Arch close with EVA black foam, it's the only material with good flexibility I have on stock.
3 accessories put on back wall. At least red paint on 2 of it, or red led.

Bad new, it seems that good ceiling shadow effect on rear part need high light with source next to front of entire room. Does anyone have a cheat ? Only 4cm above room ceiling are available. Maybe led rubber ?

Today's work : small room between Jabba's main room and Solo's carbonite room.
Started also stands facing Jabba's dai. Need to cut excess of black foam ont the arches.

Ordered more foamcore, I'm out of stock, only 4 A4 sheets left  :-\

It's not easy to take good pictures, lack of place, I apologize.

Wake up, work, and back to 2nd job :)
I tried to add some huttese on the arch with plaster clay. Not movie accurate, but a little thing who will makes the difference  ;D (After 3 unsuccessful attempts, I leave it as it is)
Using some old molds, I use the clay in excess for accessories on the walls
