A few progress on the stand inside arch. I throw some plaster cast on the scene. ( Watto's box chairs used here).

Once again, foamcore ordered (fails cost a lot of money and time)
It's time to have a look on figures for crowding this palace...
Who said that I love Gamoreans ?  ;D
Some sorting always needed, and finding some missing figures. Mains are here, it's a good start  ;D

Near Carbonites, you can see 3 Tauntaun's heads   I casted in 2013. They need some work (horns first).

Epic project! This is really awesome. I made a jabba's palace custom fit for a shelf, but it's nothing anywhere close to this.

Cut of carbonite's room stairs done (those stairs are on the left wall, behind a curtain).
I sand the stairs a litte, and prime them.

I also cast some items for a next use, maybe in Jabba, maybe in Nevarro non-sense.
Some boxes are planned for the Death Star.

I've been procrastinating for a few days to start the grid in front of the throne. I'm looking for the method of lazy... Cut in the foam? Create a kenner throne mold and duplicate at least 6 times?  I hesitate... Maybe buy 3d, but the satisfaction will not be the same.

Starting Carbonite wall
« Reply #36 on: July 21, 2024, 01:32:21 AM »
An important wall... Cannot be movie accurate due to size restrictions (approx 10 cm missing, it make a difference), so, why not have some fun on it ?
Drawing rules and holes, I added 2 cyclops casts from the 1983 Jabba's Throne. I really like them. I remember an old Jabba's Palace I made years ago, I putted those heads everywhere :)
The carbonite block is from the TVC Slave One, hanged on the wall by magnets.

Trophies doesn't please me, but they will do the job at this moment. I must put them lower.

I need to find a way for lightning/shadows effects on this wall part. I think I made an error on the total height of the diorama. with 5-10 cm higher, it was be more easy to play with lights.

Command panel is a cast of a sandtrooper backpack part. Pipe is a cast of the POTF AT-AT inside screen who contains batteries.

Test for Carbonite, not so bad, maybe too strong with this type of Led.
I needed to cut the elevator's arch for creating space for carbonite arch and lightning.

I'm going to try with an LED strip and try to create the holes that will give the desired result. It's not won, but who dares wins. I'm getting ready for long cutting sessions  DH

With all that, it's starting to look like something recognizable, even for someone who isn't a fan of Star Wars.

Looking really good! I get wanting to find a "lazy" way to do things, but your quality is excellent. I like those cyclops heads too :)

I'm happy !! I find a way to do what I want with the tiny space left for lightning. The "cheat"  is using cardboard instead of foam core for the grid cut. Place the grid as low as possible, the light as higher as possible. Tested with standalone 5 mm led. Tomorrow I schedule to test with led strip and grid for the entire carbonite arch.

The grid looks right! I'll be curious to see how the next experiment works out.

As planned, I tried with led strip.
the two main problems with this are :
  • Light diffusion angle is so much larger than single led, focusing at one point is not going to be easy without having to cut too much to create a restricted diffusion cone with the little space available in the upper part
  • 3 led emitters instead 1 in the same space, problem above is multiplied.

I'm stubborn... So I put duck tape on 2 of the 3 emitter.
I need to find the better position of the strip to have a result like yesterday.
I'm also unlucky... My 20 years old 12v electric  power supply died (of course, it's my only one).

Instead of doing as Kylo Ren would do in this case , I simply do ...

nothing else for today. It's better.

As movie accurate as possible is great, but I must change my projects.

I spent a few hours reviewing my plans and finding a way to expose as many elements as possible without losing too much space.

I have to go from "faithful to SW technical" to "shelf mode".

This is not necessarily a bad thing, I took the opportunity to review the overall layout in the small room, taking into account the arrival of the Cantina in October 2025 and to be able to install it when the time comes without having to move everything.

It also allows me to place the Rancor under the courtroom, and I'd be more comfortable creating the droids' torture chamber.

The bad news is that the pits will have to be moved and lose length.

I plan to make new stands, fewer in number, and will move from facing the throne to another position to guarantee maximum visibility from the central point of view of the room (between Jabba and the Death Star).

The changes have begun. There's a lot of work to do!

That is a lot of work! But...you have to make it workable for the space. I'm excited that you will have a Rancor space, though. That's really cool.

2 days working on new stands. 2 days of fails...
Results never please me. Stands too smalls and/or arch with a bad visual render, loss of space and can't be modular.

I'm going to try a new approach to the problem, resulting in a redesign of the middle room and trophy room in order to get the modularity I'm hoping for.

Wanting to save raw material, I will first do a test using scraps and cardboard and move on to the production phase if the result suits me. It will take me time (precious thing, I constantly lack it) but if the result is what is expected, the "sacrifice" made will pay off
