Love the color scheme on that A-Wing.  Reds and yellows are very difficult to get a nice, opaque finish from.  For that yellow, I'd recommend putting down a basecoat of tan or beige, and then building up a couple of coats of yellow...I find that gives me a much richer coverage, and avoids that streaky, transparent look.

Great A-wing. Yellow is horrible to paint with and so is red. Need so many coats to get a smooth finish (as im finding out with my latest gunship!!). Colours contrast well and with weathering it will take it up a notch. Just fantastic!!

Cool A-wing dude. Love the color scheme. You should make a custom pilot with the same colors. My only suggestion would be to use some masking tape or a straight edge to get your lines looking more straight, but I give everyone on this site props. This has become my new favorite site because all the customs.
I have a question that I hope someone can answer for me. On ships and action figures both, do you sand the old paint off before you apply the new paint or do you just wash it up(cuz I seen tutorials and everyone says to wash the stuff  with soap and warm water). And what is the best paint to use? The reason I am asking is that I have a custom Jedi of myself and I want to paint my own color scheme on a Jedi Starfighter. Any suggestions would help.

most people say wash the original and then spray it down with a coat of primer for the best results.  This will prevent your final paint apps from scratching and chipping as bad...  ON my personal collection of customs (stuf that I'm not worried about the quality of) I usually don't do anything to the figure/ship before painting (of course I usually wish I had taken the time to primer it when I finish.).
BTW there is a "resources and references" section for any other help you might need.  Look forward to seeing the custom starfighter (I'm working on one myself).

Thanks for the kind words!  Mike, I just usually take a light grey primer and paint the whole thing, then go over it with another spray color as the base coat.  Airbrushing works wonderfully also.  I've never washed mine at all, nor have I ever had to sand it.  I do NOT recommend using Tamiya Spray Paints, as I find they're too liquid and run.  However, I have had some excellent luck with Krylon Fusion for plastics.

Thanks fellas. I just wondered about the sanding part. I heard that you have to wash figures especially cuz they have oils on them from the factory? I don't know. I will try painting some stuff that I don't care about 1st before I mess up a $20-$25 Jedi Starfighter, ya know? Inflation is a killa!

Sometimes a paint may be too thin, so it may run more.  Sometimes, it may need more dry time.  I use ModelMasters, Testors, and Tamiya Acrylics and Enamels.  The Enamels need at least a week to dry fully, but come in more colors.  The Acrylics are easier to mix and dry much faster, in minutes.
