OK, update time. I negotiated a trade for a certain vehicle seen here on the forums in the WIP stage. She has arrived! This is what she looks like after a nice bath with hot soapy water.
Let me say this is one awesome vehicle and I have a few ideas of how I want to mod it. These old Joe vehicles have great sculpts and I plan to bring that out with the final paint job. The first thing I wanted to do was make the wing fold up for landing mode. I have installed a small hinge and it seems to work pretty good.
This is the zip tie piece I cut down to make a cover.
So this is landing mode.
I love the droid socket idea but it does have some problems. There are so many sculpted details inside where it opens up it makes it hard to stand up. I removed the foam pieces that were there to help with this and am contemplating a few alternatives. One is to dremel away a few details and make it the proper height for the astromech. The other is to abandon the astromech idea and use this as cargo space. You can see there is also room for the third option of doing both, keeping the droid and a small bit of cargo.
I love these little containers I found to use with this ship but sadly the bay doesn't close all the way. They seem to be 1/4" too tall. I could again do some dremeling to remove sculpted details to make these fit.
I also have some missile launchers that fit in there but think the ship would have too many guns for it's size.
This is what she looks like...on the inside.
So what do you think? Any ideas or opinions?

I like the combination of parts on this and that folding wing puts it in the Star Wars universe for me. I don't have any suggestions but I'll be watching this develop for sure.

I like the missile launcher idea. As I was also thinking of doing that. And I think the hinged wing is a great idea. I just have to ask one thing. What happened to the tinted windows? Oh well, she's not mine anymore. Are you going to put in some new ones or just leave it?

Tom, glad to hear you like everything so far. I removed the windows and all the glue, stored in a ziplock for now. They were dented in a bit plus I have to paint it still. I also wanted to clean up the over all view from inside as there are such great details in there. I usually go with something thicker but I can reuse the ones you made they came off really nicely.
Thanks Psyclone, everything seems to work so far.

Very nice work so far, LE. I love how you hinged the wing and the ziptie piece cover works well and looks nice. I too like the idea of having the droid socket there. I will give you one of those astromech candy topper pieces that I have if you think it will help.
This ship reminds me of the CW twilight ship.

Yeah that window tint isn't the best thing, it is quite flimsy. Maybe you could apply the tint to a more sturdy clear material. I can't wait to see what you do.

Looking at the pictures, I would go with the astro-socket/cargo hold.
From the looks of it, I don't think you would have to dremel anything.
What about some smaller boxes, so you don't have to lose any details?

I like where you're going with this. I agree, the hinged wing thing works.

Thans Clint, but I have a few of those myself. Jaxon also said it looks like the Twilight when I took it out of the box.
Doc the boxes are 1 1/4 inch squares. You would like them and can cast them if you want.

You know me so well!!
I also might have something a bit smaller that wouldn't prevent the section from closing. I'll see what I can come up with.
