webcam
« on: October 07, 2009, 08:56:26 PM »
So I was trying to hook up my old VGA usb webcam today... I rigged it up on a hat so I could do a "customizer's view" of whatever I was working on and record it to make time lapse vids of the progression of a custom...

but....  when I hooked up my camera it apperently isn't compatable with vista.  Anyone run into a similar problem and might be able to help me out?  I am not going to go out and buy another web cam just for this silly project but would still like to get my old one working again.

I guess this is just one more reason to dig out my desktop and get it up and running again (if running and playing Star Wars: Tie Fighter wasn't incentive enough!  ;D )

I had the same problem with just Windows XP over Windows 98 :\ I had to buy a new webcam, and my netbook comes with one built in.

Try to find xp drivers and try compatibility mode? That might work...

Why go through life base fig, when you can customize?

Go to the manufacturer's website and see if there are new drivers available for your camera and install them. IF there are no updated drivers for Vista, you're out of luck!

if skype didn't take it, it might not be salvagable.  for a cheap one, try the used section at gamestop, I saw a xbl cam for ten bucks and they are vista compatible.

bah... they don't have very good resolution anyway...

I'll just rig a tiny tripod on my head and stick my camera on it....   ::) :P

lol yeah, to get a "customizer's eyes view" of the project.  So that I wouldn't have to be constantly making sure the item was in frame and whatnot....

think of it as a helmet cam
