Question for loose collectors
« on: October 08, 2009, 01:21:52 PM »
For those of you that focus on loose items in your collection, my question is do you save the packaging ie cardbacks at all?

reason I am curious, is that I am mainly a carded collector and for the items I do open I have been saving the cardbacks or boxes for years, I have a tub full of this stuff and wondered if others do the same. I also save sale ads and fliers but that is another issue ;)

I probably should, but I do not.  I tear it open and toss it all.  I used to save the packaging for ships and vehicles, but I had so many boxes of empty packagine, I had to make room.

I would say if you have the room for the large vehicle boxes save them. Some day when you go to sell that AT TE on eBay 4.0 and you have the original box ppl will pay large for it.

However, I tend to throw the figure cards away. They don't have much on them outside of a small paragraph of text, and a stock image.

Though if you have the room for it all, why not save it all? Just don't go overboard =)

Why go through life base fig, when you can customize?

That's my problem, I just don't have the room anymore. Now I just save some of it and the upcs off the figure cards, of course.

Oddly, I save the fig-cards but not the vehicle boxes.

I don't even buy the figures on card, if possible. Because a figure here in Holland costs roughly $15, I only shop abroad through ebay and the boards and 99% of the time it's loose figures I buy.

Back in the 80s I actually did save every cardback and I still have a lot of them in scrapbooks, full of cardbacks and toy catalogue ads.

I toss mine, I saved them for along time but anymore I just throm them away the figure is what I am after anyway i Have the green card, green card with slide, red card, shadows of the empire, comm tech chip, flashback photo still carded but any others I just open for Dioramas and to play with setting up battles. but its really up to the collector how you want your collection to be.

I almost never save the packages.  I'm enough of a packrat already with stuff, I don't need the cards and empty trays and bubbles further cluttering up.

some of my figures never even make it into the house before they're opened up!  LOL

I only collect Vintage stuff loose, all my current toys stay MISB.

I have gotten a few Vintage pieces with original packaging, but opened. I always keep that stuff as a novelty.
