I picked this one up last weekend at TRU for the elevated price of $69.99
Alot of hype has surrounded this 6th version of the ever present republic gunship and for a change, this one isn't just a repaint.
This latest version features new full length side doors and smaller doors under the cockpit on either side that fold down. Also, I notice a new floor detail in this forward area. The upper big missle launchers are still there but aft of this are twin swing open additional missile launchers that hold 4 missiles apiece that are fired by twisting the back nacelle shaped end cap and fire one at a time as you cycle this cap. All the normal gunship features are in place except the bombs that used to clip onto the inside of the swing back side doors and the tow/hanging cable in the back below the aft gun barrel. Naturally, the posts are present infront of the swing open side doors for mounting of the new legacy gunpods. Alot of sites have reported that the full length doors negates the positioning of these gunpods while the doors are closed but I discovered something. Notice those square shaped notches in front of the swing open side doors? They are present in the Lucky lekku gunship as well. It is my belief that originally, that notch was to hold the arm of the gunpod while it was connected to the interior pegs and still allow the doors to close. The design of the gunpod arm doesn't allow for this but, the notch is perfectly shaped to fit the arm through it and hold the gunpod in place while the doors are closed even though it's not attached to the interior peg mounting point. So, as you can see, it is still possible to mount the pods with the doors closed.
no decals were offered with this release and they smoked the cockpit glass black again so you cant see any pilots when the canopy is closed. Bummer.
the pics available at sdcc looked like the crumb bomber nose art was a sticker but it is a paint app and does look pretty nice.
It's expensive, an exclusive, pretty neat looking and, I bought it.
I didn't even bother unfolding the included cardboard diorama display for this one because as we all know, it wasn't big enough for display of this ship.
