Here is my latest project!

This custom is going to be an Alliance Y-Wing, but it's markings are influenced by the Clone Wars version. I was going to paint her green, for the Rancors, but I just wanted to see what it would look like as if it were an old Republic fighter that had been in the service of the Alliance for some time.

The Y-Wings needed a lot of maintenance as they got older, and the mechanics couldn't be bothered to keep removing/putting back all of the panelling, so after a while they were just left off, giving the Y-Wing it's rather skeletal look rear of the cockpit pod. Another obvious difference from the Clone Wars version is the lack of rear gunners chair. This was removed by the Alliance in favour of a powerful twin Ion cannon which could knock out an enemy ships shields, engines and weapons system. Combined with the forward Laser Cannon, the combination of the two weapons was deadly. By the time of the Battle of Yavin the Y-Wings were being used by Pirate Clans and Smugglers, so in order to avoid confusion the Alliance chose to keep them in their original Republic livery.

She's yet to go through the ageing process, so that's next.

Keep you posted!

Wow, what great color. I really like the look and the reasoning makes so much sense.

Guys, thanks for the great comments.

Well, she's now weathered up, I'd have loved to have kept her pristine, but we all know the reality, she would have seen plenty of action. I've still got to paint the droid and make decals for the interior.

More images when she's finished.

and here she is in in Blue, green and Red guises...

man... I still have a y-wing custom sitting in the cabinet unfinished.  I need to get on that.  I was trying to make a saga style y-wing into a two seater version....

great job on this one jules, just like always.

btw... when your adjusting your colors with photoshop I know it's easier to just do the entire image but if you were to use a lasso tool and select only the vehicle then the figures wouldn't change colors with it... (of course I know you probably already know that.).
