3 and the Luftwaffe Oddity are my favorites. Beside Star Wars I also build 1/48 WW2 model kits that's why I would like to see the "Messerschmitt" ARC-170.

I second that. I would be interested in what camo you use for that arc 170

Neat ideas Jules. I personaly would love to see the ship in rebel colors -x or y themed- you gota think that the alliance had some of these birds all stripped down complementing the y-wings early on.

Have you considered a mandalorian scheme? Perhaps as an assualt fighter.

I am in favor of option 6. Get rid of the second seat and make it into something between this ship and a X-Wing. Same with the paint scheme. Whatever you do will be fantastic I know.

OR.... (and these ideas are completely off the top of my head so pardon their obsurdity)...

you could remove the wings entirely and scratch build a new set of wings in a new configuration creating a new ship entirely....  Which is something I've wanted to do with the fuselage of the arc-170 ever since I handle the beast of a toy.

The engines would be great pod racer engines....

or could be replaced by sebulba's pod engines for a neat look....

kit bash on some x-wing wings and make a arc-170/z-95/x-wing variant....

as far as the choices you put forth I personally would like to see the z-95 variant myself.  removing the secondary seat in the cockpit and making that an "enclosed astro-droid casing" as per the z-95 design and then kit bashing on the upper wings from the most modern version of the x-wing (because of the larger scaled wings) would be how I would approach that project...

I like 3 and 6...they both seem to add too the vehicle.
The others seem a little too much, and take away from the over all awesomeness of the vehicle.

Thanks for your  input guys....hmmm a mixed bunch of opinions, I guess it's either 3, 6 or Luftwaffe Arc...I was thinking of getting a Naboo fighter and painting it in Spitfire colours and doing a couple of WW2 / Star Wars pilots...maybe even a short photo novel to match.... on the other hand I want to sell this baby, so I'm not sure if that will sell. I'll mull it over and you'll see the results very soon.

Thanks guys...

Hi Jules

Mate all the markings look fantastic but I would have to say the Luftwaffe Oddity or the Y-Wings markings look the best to me.

Thanks Ron,

The odd thing about my Luftwaffe idea is that the ARC really reminds me of a late American WW2 fighter, the Northrop Black Widow, the concept does lean itself more towards American designs.

That being the case an ARC170 Black Widow might be cool...only problem there is all of my lovely weathering techniques would be useless on a black surface.

Personally I'm veering towards the option 6, but if I manage to sell the custom I'll buy another and then do a Luftwaffe variant, plus a Spitfire/Naboo fighter....

Go for the Black Widow.  I'm sure you can figure out the weathering.

As someone who likes to get things right, I know for a fact that I'd have to paint at least 4-5 ships in a black scheme before I was anywhere near happy with the result. I ended up painting my X-Wing about that many times (my wife nearly killed me)...so that may have to be for later.

My main aim with this is to create something I can sell as my collection is becoming embarrassing, I've got more toys than my kids...something's wrong there... I love customising, but to do so I need to sell stuff in order to do more. After talking to my good friend Jay (Wraith9) I think it's going to be a modified version with a scratch built forward facing turret located in the droid pod. This baby is most likely going to be an ARC180...an early Alliance Heavy Escort Fighter - Two wing mounted heavy cannons combined with a rotating ball cannon and rear gunner.  Colour scheme as per option 6...

If I sell it then I'm going to buy another and turn it into a Starwaffe ME110 with accompanying pilots along with a brief photo novel about them...

Jules I agree and you and Jay have some great ideas for this thing. Either way it will be awesome. I also know what you mean...I have more toys than my kids too!

Mate you are correct regarding the ARC  it does look like Northrop Black Widow, and as for weathering a black vehicle this will work great.

1: paint the vehicle using matt black spray but from a spary can not a spray gun, for some weird reason the cans do actually work great, give it about 2-3 coats.

2: once the paint has dried completely give the vehicle a wash of  light great and then wipe away the excess.

3: now this is where you get a great looking weathering, with a wide brush dry brush a 2 part mix of matt black and light grey over the entire vehicle but make sure to have as little paint on the brush as possible. Once done this will highlight the edges etc.

I was going to say something very similar to what hemble just wrote.  When weathering a dark vehicle you just have to use light colors, basically do the exact same thing you've done on all your other vehicles, just reverse the colors.

On my hiss tank I painted it flat-black first with a spray-can and then went over it with a gunship grey drybrushing.
