Well, I primered up the first R2 head so that you can see the imperfection around the base-collar.  Oh, and an air-bubble.  Some of the imperfection along the base can most likely be dealt with good clean-up, which I haven't done yet.

yeah, primer and paint always do bring out flaws you can't see otherwise.   :-\

other than the line around the bottom though it looks great

Yup!  However, I looked at the first pull from the quick-set mold...  very nice detail!  Something about that pull, tho - I got the plastic mixed wrong or something, because it is still...gooey.  Ah, well - live and learn.  The quick-set mold is the one with the clear resin in it right now.  Nice, clean details... clear resin... off to a good start!

That bottom shouldn't be too hard to fix, doc.
Resin drippings and carving to shape or some thick paint application should do the trick.

I have a ton of R2 bodies, so a way to make domes and legs. .. is something I can sink my teeth into.

Clear R2 head, please!, :)

It appears the clear resin doesn't agree with the quick-set.  When I poured up the R3 head, I had enough resin left for a couple of smaller items, so I poured up another fusion lamp and a partial holocam droid in HSIII.  The two smaller items turned out crystal clear.  The R3 dome turned a translucent yellowish!  Frustrating, but I have a good mold for R2 domes.  Looks like I need to make another HSIII mold of the R2 head to use with the clear resin.  I'll pour one up later in the old mold just to see how its gonna turn out.

Maybe this time I'll remember to use mold-release.

hmm that's strange doc.... I wonder why it fogged the resin.  you say that the smaller parts were from the same mix?  So it couldn't have been a bad mix ratio....

I have had a couple molds become discolored from where I have used modeling clay to fill in gaps or create pour spigots, but this only bleeds into the silicone and then maybe into the resin on the first pour. The fact that you've already poured into this mold several times should have eliminated any residue that could have been in there....

I wonder if the resin did not cure properly because of the insulation from the rubber?  I've had clear resin turn yellow in the past when it got too hot during the curing process.....  also clear resin when subjected to sunlight can discolor... but that wouldn't be the case here.. lol

Interesting, Spud.  I think I'll try another pour of the clear in it just to see what happens.  I had it sitting under my halogen lamp to help cure it, but the ones that came out clear were right there beside it.  I'll take pics of the casts tomorrow.
